Rancho Bernardo Inn

I wanted to share feedback regarding a very uncomfortable check in experience at the Rancho Bernardo property. When I arrived, Jessica was assisting me with check in. I asked if an early check in might be possible and was initially told that my room was not available and that I would need to wait. I completely understand that early check in is based on availability, so being told I needed to wait was not an issue in itself. What made the situation uncomfortable was that, at essentially the exact same time, Jessica’s manager was assisting another guest right next to me. That guest also asked if she could check in early, and his response was immediately, “One moment, I’ll get something ready for you.” It was extremely awkward to be standing side by side, making essentially the same request, and receiving two completely different initial responses. When I pointed out the difference, Jessica mentioned that perhaps the other guest had a different room type, which I understood could certainly be a possibility. Ultimately, Jessica was able to get me into my room early as well, and I am genuinely grateful that she was able to accommodate me. I want to be very clear that my concern is not that I didn’t receive an early check in, because I did. It was the noticeable difference in how the two situations were initially handled. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was my later conversation with the manager. When I explained what I had observed, he told me that the other guest was a VIP and that he had met her the day before. That explanation felt inconsistent with the interaction I had just witnessed between them. Their conversation had taken place right next to me, and he had asked her whether she had ever stayed at the property before, to which she responded that she had not. From where I was standing, their interaction very much appeared to be between two people who had not previously met. Rather than simply acknowledging why the situation may have looked or felt uncomfortable from my perspective, the explanation made the entire interaction feel even more awkward. Again, I am appreciative that Jessica ultimately found a way to get me into my room early. This is not about expecting special treatment or believing I was entitled to an early room. It is about how it feels as a guest when you are standing next to someone making virtually the same request, at the same time, and you watch that person immediately receive a level of consideration that you were initially denied. Unfortunately, what should have been a welcoming start to my stay instead left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Those types of interactions stay with guests, and this experience certainly makes me question whether I would choose to return. Thank you for taking the time to hear my concerns.

Our room was fabulous, both inside and out on our balcony! We overlooked the golf course, creek and fountains. Beautiful! The resort grounds were gorgeous with lots of attention to detail. Around every corner was a new little discovery which made it fun to explore. The whole resort, and especially the sprawling spa area, provided such a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. We highly recommend!!

We absolutely enjoyed our 2 night stay here! Amenities were amazing and the staff were very accommodating. Jasmine provided us with excellent customer service! We will definitely be visiting again soon.

Perfect Weekend! Great arrival & warm welcome, tbeautiful room overlooking the greens, wonderful happy hour at Avante to kick off the stay. Best night listening to Kevin James O’Brien playing guitar & singing at The Veranda over cocktails and dinner! We’ll come stay again just to enjoy another night under the stars with Kevin. Great spa day, massage with Kenneth a must. Never left the resort just relaxed and enjoyed the incredible ambiance, gracious service, delicious food & beverage, relaxing atmosphere and beautiful resort. Thanks for the much needed R&R!! Love this hidden gem.

We loved our stay. The property is beautiful. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The adult only pool was heated and so pleasant.
