Had a company event here. Room wasn't ready until after 3 which caused us to sit around for 2 hours after a 6 hour flight. Room they gave us was in a building with no elevator, had to drag bags up 3 flights of stairs in the rain. Front desk didn't even offer to help with bags. Too busy to bother I guess. Checked in in a pouring rain storm with no way back to the lobby without getting soaked. Place is 35 min from anything worth doing like Balboa Park, SD Zoo or Lajolla in the middle of nowhere. Service here is almost nonexistent. Left dirty food trays outside in the hallway all day for birds and animals to eat. Skip this place and stay downtown where the action is. This place is a resort that time has passed by.

Have stayed twice in last few months and each time, the staff was friendly, welcoming and pleasant. The rooms were lovely, and quiet. The grounds are very well maintained grounds with numerous places to sit and enjoy the scenery.

My companion and I spent Easter weekend at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, where I have stayed many times below (in fact, I have reviewed the Inn before on Trip Advisor). The plan was to gather with family member for the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch. The receptionist at the front desk welcomed us immediately after we walked in. There were containers for fruit waters available in the lobby and a mini-mart to one side of the reception desk. We checked in easily. I was somewhat miffed at the thought of a $25 per night parking charge and a $25 per night resort fee, but nickel and dining clientele seems to be the norm these days . Our room, as I requested, was on the first floor close to the lobby and restaurants (the Veranda is the low-key, all-day restaurant, what used to be called "El Bizcocho" and now is called Avant, is the pricier, more up-scale restaurant). I am having knee problems and wanted to walk minimally, so the room location was excellent although other buildings have pretty views of the golf course and gardens. We did have a small patio with chairs, but no view. The room was just as it was last year when we went for the same weekend--pleasant, but showing some wear. There was a mini-fridge, and we received a welcome bottle of house wine. Nice touch. The king bed was quite comfy, and it was dressed in high quality linens. We had some trouble with unlocking the front door (just as we had had last year), but once we got the trick down, we were able to get in and out easily. During the first evening, we met my nephew and his faincee who had come for the Easter gathering in the Veranda Restaurant patio. It was a lovely early evening, and the Veranda patio overlooks lush gardens and the golf course. We enjoyed cocktails and a snack with C. and A. and, when they returned to their room for a rest, we moved to the interior of the Veranda and ordered dinner. We shared ahi poke (delicious), and I moved on to lamb rib chops while my friend chose the catch of the day--sea bass. Each dish was prepared very nicely, and we were pleased with the terrific service as well as the cuisine. The Veranda has no elevator, so one must walk down a few sets of stairs to reach it or walk outside, down a path, and around. I mention this for the benefit of anyone who, like me, has mobility problems. The Avant Restaurant is on the main floor, off the lobby. However, during this visit, we did not have time to dine at the Avant. On Easter Sunday, eleven of us gathered in the Veranda patio for the Easter Buffet. I am not a fan of buffets because I can't eat all that much and because I usually am tempted by items I should, for heath reasons, avoid. The prime rib was rare and juicy, delectable accompanied by horseradish creme. I was attracted to protein--shellfish, lox, etc., while others in our party ate fruit, pastries, made-to-order omelets, and lighter fare. We sipped mimosas on a beautiful Sunday afternoon while a solo musician performed a variety of songs, including several Hawaiian favorites. When we said our goodbyes, I walked with difficulty back to our room to recover from my tummy ache. It was one of those "I'll never take another bite in my life" evenings, but before room service closed, we ordered a cheeseburger to share and a couple of beers. The service was prompt, and the 1/2 burger was just what we needed. WE will no doubt return to the Inn. It is lovely and has a "days of old California" vibe. The rooms could used some up-dating (as could I!), but everything worked (except the front door key). I should mention that the shower, tub, sink were in fine condition and the toiletries were of very nice quality. Overall, I recommend the Inn highly. If you are interested in golf, the course is gorgeous. The SPA comes heavily recommended. There are lovely swimming pools. We simply did not have the time or inclination to take advantage of the resort possibilities.

My family and I had to go to San Diego for the weekend and it happened to fall on Mother's Day so my husband suggested we try out this hotel. We had heard great things about it but had never stayed here. SUCH a beautiful stay!!! We had a 2 queen room away from the pool so it was clean, quiet and well situated on the property. The grounds were gorgeous and pristine, just beautifully green wherever we looked! We ate at the Veranda and the food was good and the setting was even prettier. Room service the next morning came very quickly and the food was very good. Happy with our stay and will be coming back at Christmas time as we've heard it is amazing then!

The Ranch Bernado Inn is a lovely venue set out over expansive grounds with lovely gardens and meandering paths. There's a cute little coffee shop in the ground level with a small amount of inside seating. There's 2 restaurants of which we ate at one a couple of times. They make a nice Eggs Benedict. A bar area and the other restaurant looks like a combined bar/ restaurant. We took advantage of the Fitness Centre on one day. It is well equipped with bikes, walkers, steppers, weight machines. The pool down near the centre is only for Spa customers. Too cold to use it anyway but a shame as it's long enough for laps. There is another pool up near the Coffee shop. Room service is available which we used on our arrival which was late at night and still managed to get a Club sandwich at 1055pm. Service stops at 11pm. The only down side is that it would have been nice if a light was on in the room for our arrival. It was very late, dark, wet and we were tired and had to drag our luggage to our room and struggled to find a light on entering, so you didn't get a warm fuzzy welcoming feeling arriving at the room. The staff do a tremendous job catering to quite a few different companies at once. There were 4 functions on at once one night but it's all spread out so you're certainly not on top of each other. If you want to go to some local shops, it's an $8 Uber ride to the local Mall. Had a lovely time here. Weather was against us but you can't blame the Inn for that.
