Pacific Beach, a coastal San Diego neighborhood, is an unlikely place for a hideaway crafted from translucent glass with lines that are contemporary and clean. But that is what you will find at Tower23 Hotel, a chic retreat surrounded by serious surfers and sun-worshippers. Sporting a cool and unconventional façade, its name is derived from lifeguard tower 23, which is positioned near the hotel and serves as a beacon for beach goers. Select from an assortment of room and suite types - Spirit Pad, Sky Pad, Surf Pad, Sanctuary Suite and Sweet Suite - that bask in modernistic features with sleek furnishings and minimalist appointments, coupled with private balconies or patios. The amenities are also a bit out-of-the-box, with chromatherapy baths, step-in rain showers, mini-bars personalized to your liking, and Xbox entertainment centers.

Tower 23 has been a second home for me and my family. Beautiful hotel, everyone is so friendly and helpful. The restaurant JRDN is top notch. This past week we got to stay 4 days and I have to give a shout out to Austin! That guy was so sweet and attentive, not only with our car, but when my little girls wanted anything for the beach he showed them all the cool stuff the hotel has to offer and even let them choose which kind of boogie board and sand toys to take down to the beach! He made it a fun experience for them and I love that.

Valet service, especially Austin was excellent. So was front desk.

Oh my goodness! Everything was wonderful! The location is perfect; the rooms are wonderful; and the staff is amazing! We could not have asked for better! Again, the entire staff is so kind and accommodating, but the valet, Austin, just went above and beyond the entire trip. He always greeted us with a smile, no matter how many times we made him run for our car; he gave us advice on what to do and where to go; and he just made us feel welcome.

Fantastic hotel service from start to finish! The front desk staff was incredibly helpful, and I want to give special thanks to Austin for his outstanding valet service. He was always cheerful and eager to help. During our 4-day stay, he brought and parked our car multiple times, yet always made it feel like no trouble at all. Every time we returned, Austin would ask about our day and genuinely seemed interested in making our stay even better. He also gave excellent recommendations whenever we asked about things to do. Austin truly made our experience special—he is the best!

If you want to be pampered, this is the place for you. I will be forever grateful for having stayed at Tower23. The staff went above and beyond to help me. The email on my phone is slow, and I needed a fast computer to help me sign up for a trip to Paris. The travel company was sending out a link. Only the first 30 people to sign up could go, but 400 were interested. When the desktop computer on my floor was not working, Aidan (I hope I remembered his name correctly) let me use his personal laptop. And I made it onto the trip! I'll always remember how helpful the staff here was. Besides the extraordinary experience I had here, you have to try the JRDN restaurant here. Excellent food and cocktails. And the $1 oysters during Happy Hour are the best deal you'll find anywhere.

Outstanding location facing the ocean in an old beach suburb of San Diego. Beautiful setting and clean contemporary design to establish a new standard for the city. Impeccable rooms atop a fine restaurant and service is hip, attentive and aware. I lose myself every time I stay. A highlight of my travels.
