About the Hotel

Pacific Beach, a coastal San Diego neighborhood, is an unlikely place for a hideaway crafted from translucent glass with lines that are contemporary and clean. But that is what you will find at Tower23 Hotel, a chic retreat surrounded by serious surfers and sun-worshippers. Sporting a cool and unconventional façade, its name is derived from lifeguard tower 23, which is positioned near the hotel and serves as a beacon for beach goers. Select from an assortment of room and suite types - Spirit Pad, Sky Pad, Surf Pad, Sanctuary Suite and Sweet Suite - that bask in modernistic features with sleek furnishings and minimalist appointments, coupled with private balconies or patios. The amenities are also a bit out-of-the-box, with chromatherapy baths, step-in rain showers, mini-bars personalized to your liking, and Xbox entertainment centers.

Reviews for Tower23 Hotel

Worst experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

Bad customer service & bad hotel stay. I spent so much money for the valet not to take care of my car those 4-5 days I've stayed.i talked to the manager Debra and she did not do anything about the situation. mind you the room I stayed in all night and day I was hearing a squeaky noise, It was very annoying. For me to be paying so much money for valet and the hotel not to get what I want is crazy. And them messing up my car is even crazier ! I do not recommend!

Finally Got to Stay at TOWER23 — and Loved It!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Finally Got to Stay at TOWER23 — and Loved It! I used to be a long time San Diego resident and I had wanted to stay at TOWER23 for almost a decade, and I’m so happy I finally got the opportunity! We ended up needing a room unexpectedly after the hotel we were originally staying at had a major sewage issue, and Tower23 thankfully had a room available for us. After the experience we had just come from, arriving here felt like such a dream. From the moment we arrived, everyone at the hotel treated us so well and made us feel incredibly welcome. Our room was spacious, beautiful, and had an incredible view with a balcony that made being back in San Diego feel even more special. I also loved all the little details—the bathroom products were amazing, and one of my absolute favorite amenities was being able to rent beach chairs, towels, and sand toys to take down to the beach. They made everything so easy and convenient. The location, the view, the room, and especially the hospitality made this such a great stay. I already can’t wait to be back in San Diego, and Tower will absolutely be where I stay when I return. After wanting to stay here for so many years, I can happily say it was worth the wait! 🤍

Scandalous

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Do not Recommend at all. Stayed here for a vacation recently for a couple of days. Hotel is valet only come down in the morning to pick up my car and the driver seat is ripped there was no previous damage to my car the inside is pristine so i was shocked to see this. Told the manager and the valet what happened. They bullsh1t me the whole time saying they will make it right and for me to file an insurance claim and it will be handled. 1 week later after insurance claim and everything has been filed they say theyre investigation says they did not do the damage. Obviously theyre investigation would not lead to anything because they dont have a camera or anyway to see what happened inside my car. These people made thousands off my stay but cant even fix my seat. But if i were to tear up the room i would be charged for it. General Manager Deborah is a scandalous person acting like they are trying to help but not giving me the right information to even proceed with the insurance claim then they fight it instead of taking responsibility. Now my insurance rates could go up because i filed a claim and they arent taking responsibility. This hotel makes way too much money to act so scandalous and cheap. So just know if you stay here and have a problem with anything THEY WILL NOT MAKE IT RIGHT.

I've stayed at Tower23 multiple times, usually with my husband or friends. This was first time since the pandemic and the quality just feels very worn. I had several maintenance issues with my sink and a TV that didn't work and handyman stepped all over the furniture in his boots and left things kinda messy after. The proximity to ocean is what you pay for and it's still great. JRDN is a bit mediocre for the price - drinks especially need some work. (Welcome Mai Tai was best one.) Yellowtail sushi was great, but by second day, I didn't want to pay those high prices when way cheaper options are nearby (Nico for green seafood curry and Oscars for ceviche that is half the price of JRDN and just as good.) The TV/streaming tech and wifi are really bad. I had a summer cold, so I was in room more than I planned and was a bit miffed. I know from experience this place gets LOUD on weekends, so glad I booked after that. I didn't find the staff very friendly at check-in and I felt like a Karen complaining about my stopped up sink and lack of Wifi/working TV. I'm don't like being a squeaky wheel, but for the price I felt this hotel can do better with some quality control. Other than workman's boots all over furniture, this place was clean and felt safe.

Excellent hotel and service... will not consider another hotel in San Diego. Staff is professional and top shelf.

Outstanding location facing the ocean in an old beach suburb of San Diego. Beautiful setting and clean contemporary design to establish a new standard for the city. Impeccable rooms atop a fine restaurant and service is hip, attentive and aware. I lose myself every time I stay. A highlight of my travels.
