About the Hotel

San Francisco is a city of neighborhoods and districts. While many are familiar with Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf, select travelers know and chose to encounter the hip and vibrant area known as South of Market. Occupying a prime piece of property in the bustling district is the 32-story InterContinental San Francisco, one of the city's newest luxury destinations. Its sleek façade is a head-turner but it is what awaits inside that really dazzles visitors. Reviews for InterContinental San Francisco

Ok hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The best part of this hotel is Bill the concierge! That man is awesome! I had 2 rooms, both had barn doors on the bathroom. I HATE barn door bathrooms. A little privacy would be nice. Bed linens were noisy, almost stiff. Bath towels were fine. Location was safe, we walked around and over to market st. It was expensive to park but my car didn’t get broken into (seems to be a real problem in San Fran). Was just ok, would probably stay at a different hotel looking for a more premium experience next time.

Urine in shower-bathtub, poor club lounge, and no real luxury amenities or services.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This supposed luxury hotel offers an overall experience more equivalent to a Holiday Inn with zero attention to cleanliness. There's no attention to details. Management fails to follow-through on issues to ensure they're resolved. Meanwhile, the property actively cheats guests with IHG and Intercontinental elite statuses out of their benefits. The worst part, however, were cleanliness issues that I experienced. What appeared and smelled like urine stains in the bathtub along with mold or mildew in the tiles, hair on towels, and multiple large stains on furniture. The front office manager apologized but no compensation was offered. Besides the cleanliness, the big issue is cheating. I booked a king classic west side view. That's one or two categories above a standard room. My IHG platinum and Intercontinental ambassador elite statuses entitle me to an upgrade, including a suite. I didn't receive an upgrade. The front desk claimed no better rooms or suites were available. IHG.com and the IHG mobile app were selling premium rooms, corner rooms, and junior suites for the nights of my stay when I arrived at the front desk for check-in. After complaining to a manager, suddenly a corner room became available. I didn't get the junior suite, although I was offered a suite on the second night of my stay if I wanted to move rooms. The hotel wants IHG and Intercontinental customers but doesn't want to provide the benefits that customers with IHG and Intercontinental elite statuses are supposed to receive. Other issues that I experienced: 1) No pre-arrival email and no personalized welcome letter 2) No bellman or doorman to assist with luggage and no offer of assistance from the front desk at the time of check-in 3) No club lounge check-in 4) Club lounge staffing, both the guest relations staff member and the attendant(s), was inconsistent 5) No newspapers in the lobby or in the club lounge 6) Instead of the usual welcome amenity for Intercontinental ambassadors, the hotel only provides one plastic bottle of water -- that's it 7) No bar of soap in the bathroom 8) No dental kit or mouthwash in the bathroom 9) No stocked mini-bar 10) Outside the complimentary alcohol, the food and drinks offering in the club lounge is basic and more like the club lounge at Sheraton or Crowne Plaza airport hotel. The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Fairmont, Four Seasons, and Hyatt Regency all have a better food offering. Breakfast is equivalent to an airport lounge breakfast with what appears to be powdered eggs. One night, there were no hot food options in the club lounge. Wine was only served from 5 to 7 pm. But they then served whiskey with desserts. Why would you not keep wine out? They should at least have food and wine to 8 pm. Another night the hot food was gone by 6 pm and not replaced. When he is working, Louis, the attendant in the club lounge, is awesome. Unfortunately, he doesn't work every night. At breakast, there's no sparkling wine for mimosas. And there's only one coffee machine. No coffee carafes. All things considered, I cannot recommend the Intercontinental.

Good hotel with wonderful staffs, but room definitely need improvement

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I stayed here for 4-nights for a business conference that held here. TL;DR I enjoy the location, wonderful staffs, but the room needs an improvement. My detailed reviews below: 1) Location: The location is perfectly centralized. Plenty of dining place, a number of Starbucks if you need your caffeine fix, Mel’s Drive-In also just a few minutes walk. Montgomery Bart station also only 10-mins walk for direct access to the airport. Overall, I’m satisfied with the location. 2) Lobby/Reception: The lobby has decent size, pretty generic for a business hotel and honestly it lacks of a character. Thankfully the reception staffs are wonderful, including the gentlemen at the concierge. They’re genuinely nice and helpful. Check-in process was fast and efficient. I was a bit unsatisfied with the room that they gave me in the first place, some cleanliness as well privacy issue (the window is directly facing to an office building across), however, they managed to amend this and relocate me to another room which I appreciate. 3) Room: I think this is the weakest point here. The deluxe room is big, but the interior is just plain boring and has no character at all. Also the bed is too soft, not firm enough to support my back so I always end up sinking each time I woke up in the morning. The fabric sofa in the corner definitely needs a clean up. The room has Keurig coffee machine which is good. Bathroom has decent lighting. I do like the bathroom amenities offered which smells good. Sadly the shower pressure could’ve been better. 4) Other aspects: I didn’t try all the facilities, because mostly I sit in the meeting rooms in the hotel which I found quite decent. Wi-Fi also has decent speed regardless there were many people accessing them. The main selling point for this hotel is the service, all staffs here are super friendly and helpful. My daily housekeeping request also honored and I always found my room is already refreshed each time I coming back. Overall, it’s a good business hotel. Location and service are their main selling point. However, I still think the management can improve the room condition as it’s too generic and boring. I also wish the bed can be more firm. Anyway, you can’t go wrong with this hotel.

Amenity Fee Will Kill This Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Stayed a total of about two months over past year in multiple stays. Nice hotel and more modern than Mark Hopkins. Good lounge. Location dicey, depending which direction you walk in. Has been my go-to hotel in San Francisco. However, I'll never stay again since they started to charge an amenity fee. I don't do hotels that engage in that sleazy practice. Just not something that honorable business do.

Great property if you're visiting Moscone

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

I stayed here as part of a conference block during a conference at Moscone. From a location perspective, it can't be beat if you need to go to Moscone West. I stayed here once before many years ago, but I didn't remember a ton about it. I'm in town often for conferences at Moscone, so I've met friends here for drinks or hung out in their lobby area several times. My room was amazing. I had a king suite and it was gigantic. I had a full bathtub and shower, two sitting chairs, and a long area that served as desk, dresser, fridge and coffee station. The only thing I can think of that needed a tweak was a towel bar on the bathroom by the sink. Note the do not disturb sign is a switch. I didn't switch it on when I arrived and staff almost walked in on my. To be fair, they rang the doorbell, but I didn't know what it was. Overall, I have no complaints about my stay here. I didn't dine here at all, but I would expect hotel prices. I would definitely stay here again. I can't comment on the regular rates, but as part of a conference block it was a steal.
