Outside the historic colonial city of San Jose del Cabo, on the tip of Mexicoâ€(TM)s Baja Peninsula, Barcelo Los Cabos is a tranquil paradise. Tropical gardens and giant desert cacti surround the guestrooms and suites that offer a pleasing blend of Mediterranean and Mexican details. From the welcoming Chula Vista restaurant, to the freeform, sandstone poolâ€"where the sound of waterfalls mingles with the distant thunder of the Sea of Cortezâ€"a soothing atmosphere pervades this inviting property.

My wife Daniela and I had a wonderful relaxing and fun 7 nights at the GS Solaris Lighthouse. Everyone from entertainment staff to waiters/waitresses, bellboys, consierge, and front desk were very helpful and delightful. We can't remember all their names but we must give special mention to as many as we can remember: Entertainment staff: Alfredo, Emiliano, Arturo, Fabiola, and Janina. Rosmarinus Buffet: Alejandra (hostess), Jesus, Alejandro, Cheyla, and Martha. Cafe Solaris Buffet: Jose, Ceceila, and Salvador. Francesco's Italian Restaurant: Gallegos, Liz, and Carlos (who sang beautifully). Bellboy: Yoatzin Lobby bartenders: Guadaloupe and Raphael. Consierge/Guest Services? Gerardo. We really enjoyed walking around the beautifully manicured gardens on site and watching the professional hard working gardeners. Housekeeping was wonderful. Entertainment staff were amazing, keeping us stretching, exercising, laughing, and playing games at the pool. Buffet and restaurant food was very good and lots of variety.

The hotel had everything we were looking for in an all inclusive. Good buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great poolside snackbar. 2 a la carte restaurants for finer dining. Our room was spacious even though we booked the lower priced rooms. The pools were great. 3 to choose from including a beach front adults only infinity pool. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

Meals choices were very limited. Food not tasty. Rooms are basic. Music blaring loudly all day. Lighthouse pub restaurant very crowded and loud, no conversation possible. Assigned room was terrible, noisy as it was beside all the service entrances and on ground floor so not safe to have patio door open. Very stuffy. Front desk staff were not helpful about requested room change and it took 4 days of packing up and coming at 11 am before they found a room...unless paid an extra $50 a day. An example of poor experiences is: Football game on large screen took an hour precedence over Cuban music performance start time, even though only a dozen guests watching game. The resort is not as pictured in the website or travel providers ads. Advice, choose another resort even if have to pay more. Your holiday will be better.
