Not what we excepted! The second time around was not as good.
We recently stayed at GR Solaris Lighthouse Los Cabos, Mexico for seven days and were disappointed by how much the overall experience had declined since our previous visit. We stayed at the same property in 2024, when it operated as Barceló Gran Faro Los Cabos, and had an excellent experience at that time. During our 2024 visit, the resort offered a strong entertainment program, with enjoyable activities and shows throughout the day and evening. The food was also very good, with a wide variety of options available each day, particularly for an all-inclusive resort. Unfortunately, our 2026 stay was very different. Throughout the seven days, the food selections were repetitive, with very little variety from one day to the next. Some dishes appeared to have been repurposed from previous meals rather than freshly prepared as new menu options. We would rate the entertainment 3 out of 10. The evening shows were poorly organized and did not provide the quality or level of enjoyment we experienced during our previous stay. One evening, the front desk suggested that we order room service if we wanted something different from the regular dining options. We ordered chicken fingers and fries. Although the meal looked appealing when it arrived, the chicken fingers were mushy, flavorless, and tasted more like vegetable-based tenders than chicken. We reported the issue to a manager and were told that it would be investigated, but we did not receive any follow-up. On a positive note, our room was clean, and the housekeeping staff did an excellent job throughout our stay. Their service was one of the strongest aspects of our visit. The overall atmosphere of the resort also appeared to have changed. There seemed to be a greater emphasis on vacation-club or timeshare sales, as we frequently observed guests being taken on property tours after attending what appeared to be sales presentations. This contributed to the impression that the resort’s priorities had shifted away from the traditional guest experience. Overall, after spending seven days at the resort, we would rate GR Solaris Lighthouse Los Cabos 3 out of 10. Significant improvements are needed in food quality and variety, entertainment, management follow-up, and the overall guest experience. Based on this stay, we do not plan to return.
