Reviews for Hotel El Ganzo

Great hotel from design to food to service!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 16 hours ago

My friend and I spent a week at Hotel El Ganzo, and we had an incredible stay. We came to relax, and the hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. The design and architecture are stunning, with thoughtful details throughout the property. The staff is both professional and genuinely warm, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The food was fresh, flavorful, and consistently excellent. We also loved the private beach, beautiful pools, rooftop views, live music, and the variety of activities offered. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between stylish and relaxed, and the team was always attentive and thoughtful. The only downside was the pricing for food and drinks, which felt quite high, almost on par with San Francisco. While the quality is excellent, slightly more accessible pricing would make the overall experience even better. Overall, Hotel El Ganzo is a beautiful boutique hotel with exceptional service, thoughtful design, and a truly relaxing atmosphere. We would absolutely return.

A deeply intentional, soulful oasis

My partner and I spent a few days at El Hotel Ganzo and we definitely had a great time and would return/recommend this place to others. Our stay began with us arriving a few hours early and they graciously held our bags while we explored the hotel. Ale and Ross were very welcoming and accommodating. Speaking English with them and the reception staff was easy. Immediately you could tell a lot of effort and intention had gone into the hotel's decor and ambience. This was not a typical, manufactured luxury hotel, there were small touches everywhere. As we would learn later, El Ganzo stands for goose, which in Spanish the animal is often a metaphor for doing things your own way and you could feel the counter culture that runs underneath the place. Unique art pieces appeared throughout the hotel (part of their artist residency program). The hotel put a large emphasis on music with it's art, live performances, interesting playlist and recording room where it invites musicians of all ranks to play. Really cool. The rooms were clean, comfortable and beautiful with every room having a great view of the marina and ocean. The grounds were immaculate and there were several features that surprised us like the cinema area, spa and numerous swimming areas. We went to the rooftop pool everyday to enjoy the sunset. The service was great there. We spent one day at their beach and had a lovely time with the best shrimp aguachiles I've ever had. All the food was of great quality. The playlist could make you feel like you were melting at times, in a good relaxing way. I'd learn that a part of the ethos of the hotel was to make you feel like you were microdosing shrooms. The hotel is owned by a family that owns many resorts throughout the area. The idea for the hotel was conceived by one of the sons who tragically passed shortly after the hotel opened. You can tell the family and hotel wanted to follow through on his vision. The hotel clears environmental standards and provides for the community it surrounds unlike many resorts that create inequality. We had plans of visiting the surrounding areas a bit more extensively but we ended up spending as much time in the hotel as outside of it due to the quality of experience we were having. During the pm they come and ensure your room is in perfect shape and even drop off a little treat. Again it's the little things this place nails along with the obvious. We enjoyed our stay and loved that it was adults only. It feels like this place exists for more than just profit, which I think is something most can appreciate in this increasingly commodified world we all live in. This place is authentically itself. Very much appreciated Ale at reception for taking care of us!

Unique & Amazing Resort

This was the perfect choice for us! Exclusive, private, gorgeous, not pretentious, close to nature and delicious food! I really can’t say enough about this resort. From the super cool rooftop infinity pool with ocean front view to the private swimmable sandy beach with full service food and bar to the artful decor and comfortable rooms, this hotel has it all. Live music, DJ, Flamenco dance, outdoor fire pits, tequila by the bottle, ‘underground’ music studio and the best staff! Josef was my best friend while we were there! He made sure we had the best table for Flamenco night and was always very attentive. I’m in love and hope to return. I’m sure it will feel more like a return home to Mexico!

No value for money, go somewhere else

I have visited thie property and eaten at the roof top and beach restaurant several times, so my opinion is not based on a single visit. It has always been expensive, but the current pricing has simply become unreasonable. The guacamole at almost $30 USD is only one example. The overall quality of the food does not justify the prices. As a hospitality and gastronomy professional, I fully understand food costs, quality ingredients, local sourcing, labor and operating expenses. There is a clear difference between premium pricing and unjustified overcharging. The wine list is another perfect example. Some wines that retail for around $10 USD are being sold for over $100 USD plus tips.I understand restaurant markups, but this level of markup is extremely difficult to justify. And before the usual explanation about fresh, high-quality and locally sourced ingredients: I understand all of that very well. The issue is simple—there is no value for money. The quality and experience delivered do not support these prices. The automatic 15% gratuity is also concerning. Tips in Mexico are voluntary, yet it is automatically added to the bill, seemingly hoping guests will not question it. An employee even told me the union pressured management to implement this practice. Whatever the internal reason, it does not justify automatically adding a gratuity. Instead of constantly trying to justify these practices, management should listen to its customers, accept criticism and learn from it. That would be far more useful than another standard corporate explanation. Beautiful rooftop and location, but the current overpricing is completely unjustified. It was always expensive. Now it has become absurd.

Overall great experience at El Ganzo

El Ganzo is a beautiful hotel. The staff is exceptional. Isidro, server in the restaurant, was delightful and made our dining experiences incredible. The hotel has a laid back feel but with all the extras. The private beach was gorgeous. We will definitely be back.
