Reviews for Pelican Eyes Resort & Spa
Stayed here from 2 Jan to 6th Jan, property is large, we were put in the rear of property and you need to be driven to your room, the drivers show up most of the times, other times you are stranded, you can walk to the main area but it will take you 10-15 min to get there. They stop the rides at 10 pm and then your on your own. The breakfast is included, the food is avg, the service is ok, but we were there when there was a wedding and they forgot about the reat of the guess staying there. There is a second restaurant, but was closed the 4 days we were there. Leaving you no choice but to go out in town. There is nothing to do at the hotel. Small lobby area in the front. The staff was not frendily they were there to earn a pay check. Not impressed for the price. Better accommodation in town for 1/4 of the price. We checked out they did not even ask how you stay was. O the wedding party was more important then the guess staying there. Save your money, dirt roads and closed restaurants. They could use some training on how all guess should be treated.

This hotel must have been awesome but now it has gone down hill with the new owner (hence two stars, otherwise I would have given it one star). Overall, the views are very nice and the grounds have a lot of potential but the rooms are outdated, dirty, and the staff is horrible. Missing lightbulbs, cigarette buds, murky water in pool, missing tiles, dirty bathroom, etc., which is far from anything close to luxury at this price point. Our shower was outside of the room and there was so much debris. It looks like it was never cleaned. Also, the staff at the front desk or restaurant were far from accommodating or helpful. When we were checking out we were simply given our hotel bill without a thank you or a smile. We saw the cleaning maids watching TV in the room next to ours and then chatting away on the phone. No wonder the place is far from clean. I would not stay again.

This property is gorgeous. The pools and the views cannot be beat and the condo that we stayed in was gorgeous. However, some basic amenitites were lacking. First, the wifi was very sporadic. You had to walk to the main reception to get any service (which is a long walk). My biggest complain of this property, however, is the pool area amenities. On my first day I was so excited to just sit by the pool. I went outside and asked several workers where I could get a town, and they told me to go to reception. I then went to the lower pool to get a towl and I was told there were no more available. The next day I learned that you only get 1 towel per guest. The towels were bath size not proper beach towels. I found this to be ridiculous. There seemed to be a ton of people working at this resort - assign people to hand out nice fluffly towels to peopel at each pool! There should not be a limit on how many towels someone can use (especially since they were so small). Additionally, the pool chairs themselves were not very comfortable and you couldn't sit on them for a full day if you wanted to. At a minimum they needed cushions (which were pictured in the brochure). Again, invest in proper lounge chairs that lay flat and have cushions. And a few umbrellas for shade too. Lasly, it was disappointing that the restaurant by the upper pools was not open and you couldn't order food / drinks by the pool. Again, overall a great property in superb location, but needs a few minor upgrades on amenities.
We loved our stay at Pelican Eyes. The hotel is beautiful. It’s up high on a hill with a stunning view of the ocean. The infinity pools are as beautiful as the pictures. We could spend all day there! It’s also great location near the main town. Less then a 5 minute walk. We loved being able to pop into town whenever we wanted for food or shopping. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to someone looking for a relaxing, luxury stay in SJDS Tip: don’t book all your activities through the hotel. You can get them much cheaper from companies a few minutes down the road. There is no difference by booking through the hotel except for cost. Enjoy your stay, I know we did!
the hotel was very clean and the beds were comfortable. breakfast is included with your stay. however, it is very basic and they didn't provide the greatest service. you must enjoy walking, as everything is uphill and your walking far distances to get from the lobby, to your room or the pools. they do provide a driving service but you hate to bug them every time you need to get somewhere
