Friday Harbor House

There are four things about Friday Harbor House that are truly terrific: the friendly and attentive staff (Darcy!), the beautiful property overlooking the harbor, the restaurant ($$) outdoor seating, and the location. You’re right in Friday Harbor and can easily walk to restaurants, shops, and the ferry, which makes it a wonderfully convenient place to stay while exploring San Juan Island. That said, at these prices, the room itself matters - A LOT. We stayed in Room 28 in August, when the nightly rate was more than $600. Unfortunately, despite staying at a property known for its harbor setting, our room had essentially no view at all. Instead, our windows looked directly onto the neighboring building and a large metal roof/gutter area. I’ve included a photo because it really says it all. We jokingly referred to it as our “gutter view.” I understand that not every room can have a sweeping harbor view, especially in a small inn and especially when it is the middle of the season. But at more than $600 per night, I think guests should be made very aware when booking that certain rooms have a significantly COMPROMISED view. At that price point, discovering this after arriving is disappointing. I also want to encourage the inn to update rooms, although we were happy there was a king-size bed. There were no clear instructions for the in-room fireplace, the phone system is dated (I couldn't figure out how to call the front desk), and the hot tub-jacuzzi in the middle of the room is like something from the 80's-90's. I'd rather have a bigger bathroom with more privacy than a tub - but that's a personal preference. We still enjoyed our stay because the staff was so welcoming, the common areas and overall property are lovely, and you simply can’t beat the location. I would absolutely consider staying at Friday Harbor House again...BUT I would make sure to confirm the specific room and its view before booking. For $600+ a night, I’d want to be looking at Friday Harbor, not the gutter!

The location is spectacular! Great view of the pier and short walk to the ferry. The outdoor patio is a beautiful place to grab breakfast with gorgeous views. The rooms are well-equipped with lots of little extras that add to your stay. The staff is phenomenal! They answered all of our questions and were unbelievably helpful in making our short trip a memorable one. Would highly recommend this location to anyone visiting Friday Harbor!

We stayed in a small suite (three of us) and is was wonderful. The staff are simply spectacular-friendly helpful and accommodating in every way. The hotel is lovely and the location allows walking to ferry restaurants, shopping, bike rental. The views form the patio and our balcony were lovely- Our room was spacisou, and the hotel is immaculate. Daily housekeeping is scheduled via text, which is wonderful as you can specify a specific time. Or you can omit it- I always like to have waste baskets emptied and a bir of a refresh, so we had daily housekeeping. The toiletries were L'Occitane and were excellent. We had a whirlpool tub, which we all used daily (as well as a wonderful rain shower). This is a special hotel, in a lovely town and the San Juan Islands are just gorgeous. We enjoyed hiking, biking and kayaking.

We arrived at Friday Harbor for a first time visit to the region and a brief two night stay ( stay longer if you can)! The hotel was amazing. The staff were fantastic, I always forget names but Josh was very helpful and we loved the bar and restaurant staff ( especially the bartender she was from Hawaii). The amenities is what made this stay over the top and I will tell everyone… snack bar in afternoon with Milano cookies, popcorn etc… S Pellagrino drinks in the small refrigerator for your refreshment, coffee in the morning but in your room you have this wonderful set up with local coffee to be steeped along with Specialty oatmeal, reasonably priced wine and for your hair/body is L’Occtaine products. You have a soaking tub with salts ( I didn’t use). Water pressure good and hot water. The bed and room very comfortable and a beautiful balcony with a view of the harbor. Restaurant on site, patio seating) was very good and plentiful portions (we had breakfast) reservations recommended for breakfast and dinner. This was a true gem and I would highly recommend staying here if you can.

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary and the stay was everything we hoped for. The staff, especially Anda, Heather, Karla, Tina and others were super welcoming and it was obvious they took great pride and care in making us feel special. The view from our room overlooking the harbor was spectacular and the bed was very comfortable. The in-room hot tub was also a great treat.
