Beautiful beach but drawbacks

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

My husband and I stayed a week at Caribe Hilton. It was a mixed bag. Pros: - The beautiful beach. The protected lagoon makes it great for swimming and wading. - Beach towel, chair and umbrella services were good, but then, we paid a lot for them in the resort fees. - Our room overall was very nice and well maintained by housekeeping. - I loved the tropical garden and seeing the birds, turtles and fish there. - Staff were friendly and helpful. Cons: - Dining options. The resort food was okay but VERY overpriced, and there are few other options within walking distance. We felt like they were taking advantage of us. We would have liked more healthy offerings, too. - Our room had only one towel hook in the bathroom, and no good place to dry swimsuits - We stayed in the Beach wing, and only one elevator was in operation the whole time. The other public elevator was closed for maintenance, and long lines at the elevator were common. There was a vague sign mentioning another elevator, but locating the service elevator especially on our floor was a little difficult. - The seating near the pools and along the oceanview walk was pretty uncomfortable for older folks like us, and the padded seats were mostly stained and looked unsanitary. We wished that there were some simple benches along the walkway, especially on the quieter side overlooking the fort and Condado.

If you like piña coladas and gettin' caught in the rain

I stayed at the Caribe Hilton (birthplace of the Pina Colada) for 4 nights. Although I didn't hate my stay, the next time I travel to PR I would choose another hotel. For the price you are paying, the only plus was having the private lagoon and they provide towels down by the pool. Other than that, everything was standard and could be found at a cheaper hotel. It was nice to get up in the morning and step out on my balcony and look out to the Ocean. We were in room 1269 which had a nice view of the fort side. Our room had issues with the outlets to charge our electronics, so we had to unplug some stuff in the room to use those outlets that did work. Bathroom was nice and spacious, but the shower was not the best. The more you turned towards hot, the more water pressure you lost. I couldn't wait to get home and take a good shower. Overall due to price I would not stay here. If the prices were lower, I would definitely be back.

Great experience far surpasses the other resorts I’ve been to in Puerto Rico. The bartender Hiram was best of the best made my wife and I experience very enjoyable and everyday was greeted with a smile. He even remember our names and drinks like clock work. Highly recommend

Paradise found!

This hotel is incredible. The views, the drinks, the staff.. all of it was perfect. Hiram, the bartender at Bagua (the pool bar) is hands down the best bartender at the resort. He elevated our overall experience tenfold. All the staff at the hotel were great, but Hiram should really have a spotlight to represent this brand. Also, quick shout out to David at the indoor bar for making possibly the best piña colada ever! The resort was beautiful, and located dead center between Viejo San Juan, Isla Verde, and Catalonia.

Caribe Hilton was once a great hotel. If there are better alternatives then you should review them. The staff is great and the food is okay, nothing special. It is a shame because there is so much potential for it to be amazing. .The views are amazing, the sunrise are great and the location is fantastic. We used Uber for everything. Which is the best thing that ever happened for San Juan. But the hotel is badly maintained. The pool looks great in the pictures, but it is far from it. The rooms are okay but the bathrooms are so outdated and in bad need of renovations. I wish that I could give them a better rating, because San Juan is a great place to visit. You should look pass this hotel.
