About the Hotel

When railroad tycoon Frederick William Vanderbilt built the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, part of the Legend collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, in 1919 it was Puerto Rico's only luxury hotel – President and Eleanor Roosevelt stayed here, part of a long list of notable guests. If the architecture looks familiar, it might be because the design firm also drew up the plans for New York's Grand Central Terminal. Graceful archways and sweeping staircases remain intact in this fully restored landmark, which presides over the Atlantic Ocean with two guestroom towers that are sumptuously modern.

Reviews for Condado Vanderbilt Hotel

Defacto 3 star overpriced invasive hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 15 hours ago

The only thing five star about this place is the price, everything else feels like a 3 star at best. I stayed at the junior suite room, even a suite is freaking tiny, unacceptable. The interior of the entire hotel including the rooms feels like your grandma’s bedroom, super old and not classy at all. The people who work there are not passionate nor friendly. I had 4pm check out benefit but at least two house keeping personnel just swiped open my room without even knocking. This is unacceptable as 5 star hotel. I been around the world in numerous 5 star hotels and I have never ever seen anything this bad. Condado Vanderbilt Hotel is defacto a 3 star hotel on a good day. Pics are actually taken by me inside the hotel, I only took these because everything else is so bad I did not even bother to take pics.

Lovely in appearance….but,

Our room was too hot for sleeping… The thermostat read 68 degrees and you could NOT make it any lower…The real temperature felt to be more like 74 degrees… Our toilet only flushed one out of six try’s…Very disappointing..

Stolen items

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

| left 2 designer belts on the top shelf of my closet forgot them when I checked out and when I called later that evening was told lost and found doesn't get logged until late at night (I found out that was a lie) there was no new guest in my room and the throw pillow that would be on the made bed was suspiciously where the missing belts were. There are no cameras in the hallways either. Needless to say my belts were stolen by employees of the hotel and I had to continue to follow up with them. They didn't offer or want to do anything to make it right.

Terrible due to over $1000 in designer belts being stolen

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

STOLEN!!! Please be aware not to bring anything of value.. my bf’s one Gucci and one LV belts were stolen from our room. We engaged with everyone from front desk, security, bellboys, management and did a police report. Everyone knew what happened. Our trip was one month ago. Instead of maybe refunding $500 of our $700 plus per night room to his credit card so he can claim insurance to replace the belts…. Well they are ignoring the fact they charge that much a night the following night was $1300 plus fees and taxes for an old room with no beach access? Can you imagine what else they would have taken had we stayed ? What happened to honest people and management doing the right thing? The belts are brand new and worth way more than $1100 and we still would be paying for part of the room that would cover costs. Maybe be empathetic to the fact your staff stole? Not misplaced.. we knew exactly where they were. Do you think I want to waste time posting negativity? But I feel others should be warned. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! FEEL SAFE…. Very petty on managements half.

Uncomfortable and rip off

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

I wanted to love the Condado Vanderbilt. We booked via Amex Travel. At $725 per night we had expected a Four Seasons style experience. This was not that. The room was tiny. The bed broken and bowed, sagging and clearly old. The service was mediocre, indifferent and slow. The resort fee which was not included or made clear upfront added a further $120 per night, no valet. We requested a room change after the first night’s terrible sleep in a bed which had two inch depression in the mattress. We were told there was no availability and that housekeeping/‘engineering’ would come and fix the bed. That was at 0900. At 2:30 that afternoon we enquired again. 45 mins later a team showed up and promised to fix it while we left. At 21:30 that evening we returned. Nothing had been done. So we called and complained to the manager. 25 mins later, two men showed up and with a board of chipboard. It was too long. A further 20 mins later - now 22:15, they installed the chip board. It did nothing to fix what was clearly a worn out mattress. Meanwhile the couple next door fought continuously for the three nights, their voices clearly audible through the paper thin walls. We had three nights of terrible sleep in a broken bed for $845 per night once the hidden ‘resort fee’ was added. In short, don’t be deceived by the flattering photos. This hotel needs investment and better staff. Avoid unless you enjoy being ripped off.
