When railroad tycoon Frederick William Vanderbilt built the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, part of the Legend collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, in 1919 it was Puerto Rico's only luxury hotel – President and Eleanor Roosevelt stayed here, part of a long list of notable guests. If the architecture looks familiar, it might be because the design firm also drew up the plans for New York's Grand Central Terminal. Graceful archways and sweeping staircases remain intact in this fully restored landmark, which presides over the Atlantic Ocean with two guestroom towers that are sumptuously modern.

I have stayed at all the best hotels all over the world. In NYC I stay at one every weekend. Hawaii, Hong Kong and everything in between. 3 stars and 5 stars. Airbnb’s to boutiques. This hotel is one of my favorites. The service was exceptional. The bar and drinks excellent. The taco place great. The 1919 was fantastic. Our suite was spectacular and the staff were always very helpful. Good water pressure. My only small “complaint” is the hot tub was warm, not hot. But that’s nothing really.

Honestly, it’s hard to come up with any criticism of this hotel. The place is spotless, the staff are kind and welcoming (we asked for a bandaid for a cut on my husband’s leg and the hotel sent a trained medic to attend to him). We got into our room early, housekeeping was timely, food and drinks were excellent. If you want to chill by the multiple pools, this is the place for you. It was very windy this week so getting to a calm beach requires a quick walk.

The Condado is a lovely 4.5-star hotel located in a busy hotel zone in San Juan. The facilities, which include a spa, fitness center, several pools, beach access, and a lobby bar, are attractive and well maintained. Our room, which had a partial ocean view but no balcony, was nicely decorated and well appointed with a robe and high quality toiletries. However, what really stands out at this hotel was the incredibly attentive and friendly 5-Star customer service. From check in to the nightly turndown service (which came with offers of replenished water bottles and fresh towels) to the pool and beach attendants, everyone we encountered was exceptionally helpful and pleasant. The only disappointment was the food. We had lunch at Ola and Tacos & Tequila and cocktails at the lobby bar, and we found the food and drink to be underwhelming across the board. Aside from that, we found the Condado Vanderbilt to be a great spot for our girls’ trip.

Wow! Don’t hesitate to stay here. I had a city view suite. It was huge with 2 balconies, a living room, bar, dining area , beautiful bathroom and bedroom. The furniture is exquisite. I also had a butler. Breakfast was wonderful and I had one dinner at STK with a delicious filet. The grounds are beautiful. There are several pools and restaurants on site.

My husband and I stayed at The Condado Vanderbilt Hotel at the recommendation of my nephew. It was perfect! We couldn't ask for a better place to stay. The grounds and buildings are beautiful and meticulously maintained. The property is easy to navigate. The food, drinks and service are the best, with indoor, poolside or room service options available. The staff couldn't be more accommodating. We had an extremely minor scheduling question about the time of our room's cleaning one day and found champagne and two glasses when we came back to our room! While the entire staff in every area was absolutely outstanding, Deyaneira Rosa in the Housekeeping Department deserves a special shout out! We would definitely stay there again.
