Condado Vanderbilt Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico

When railroad tycoon Frederick William Vanderbilt built the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, part of the Legend collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts in 1919, it was Puerto Rico's only luxury hotel – President and Eleanor Roosevelt stayed here, part of a long list of notable guests. If the architecture looks familiar, it might be because the design firm also drew up the plans for New York's Grand Central Terminal. Graceful archways and sweeping staircases remain intact in this fully restored landmark, which presides over the Atlantic Ocean with two guestroom towers that are sumptuously modern.

Liven up the senses with a morning walk on the beach. Take a taxi to Old San Juan, a 400-year-old enclave still buzzing with life. Explore the old forts of the northern "walled city" and duck into boutiques all the way to the piers. Savor a four-course prix fixe meal of local, organic cuisine at 1919, pairing an Oregon pinot gris and wild salmon confit with spring vegetable pistou.

This is the best of the Hotels located in Condado. The staff are the friendliest and most accommodating of them all. We stay there often and the staff remembers us and always makes us feel welcome there on each visit. Their rooms are always the cleanest. They always have free snacks and drinks in the fridge that are replaced daily as needed. My wife likes that !

If you can afford to pay $360 a night. This is the best hotel in Condado and one of the best in the island. Since you walk in the lobby the view of the ocean is unbelivable! The infinity pool, the restaurants, the bar at the pool and the bar at the lobby are so beautiful. My favorite! Small beach, but cute too!

This has to be the best place around San Juan. The staff is incredible, and thoughtful. They go out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect. Javier and Efrain should be commended on a great job, they made our stay one to remember. Easily one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Thank you.

FANTASTIC hotel! Go to San Juan, you will be pleasantly surprised! I was a bit hesitant after the hurricanes. Sure there are a few areas still not 100% but overall a great Caribbean destination. Amazing food, super beaches !!

What a wonderful stay at the Condado Vanderbilt in Puerto Rico. The view was amazing, all of the staff was attentive and helpful, and the Presidential Suite was beautiful (I highly recommend it). Yolanda, a very responsive server in the Dining Room, was very accommodating and sooo prompt. Also, the central location of this great resort was so conducive to visiting Old San Juan and the many fashionable restaurants in Santurce. My wife and I will certainly be back to San Juan, and this hotel, soon!
