Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
The courtyard gardens of Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada provide a leafy respite from the colors, scents and sounds of San Miguel de Allende. Here there is tranquility befitting the cloistral surroundings – some of the intricate stonework dates from the 1400s, and individually designed rooms are reminiscent of Old Mexico. Talavera-tiled bathrooms, copper sinks and stucco walls adorned with original art create a homey ambiance, and the quarry stone fireplace is the perfect place to enjoy an evening glass of wine.
Let Mexico’s prettiest city enchant you: Take a morning stroll down cobblestoned streets past cathedrals and architecture dating from pre-Hispanic days. Learn why San Miguel is a UNESCO World Heritage Site through unexpected detours. Stop for coffee at a sidewalk café in the shade. Taste a crispy, powdered sugar-covered tumbagone dessert. Return to the hotel for a siesta in a poolside lounger.

Reviews for Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada
I reviewed several hotels in SMA and chose Belmond as I knew I would receive lovely, luxurious accommodations. It was more than I imagined. I love a hotel experience that has a main building with several casitas. My suite was large, with a separate living room, bathroom and large bedroom, plus a private patio. The pool area was very inviting as well. The dining experiences at both restaurants were perfect - and they accommodated my need for gluten-free food very nicely. In addition, the location to the main park and ability to walk literally everywhere in the city is tremendous. San Miguel de Allende is a city NOT to be missed and the Belmond is an excellent choice of accommodations.

My first trip to SMA and I wanted to experience an authentic and well positioned accommodation. This was spectacular. The hotel has all the modern amenities one would demand, yet the setting and rooms are seething with soul and colonial architecture. Not to mention the service and standard of procedure. I loved it there.

Casa de Sierra de Nevada is a collection of homes, courtyards, grand buildings combined. As such, every room is different and you need to be very specific in what you want. Street side can be noisy with traffic, Some accommodations are more modern with more up to date amenities. We had a Junior Suite with a separate sitting area, but TV was opposite the bed in another room.. not what we like. Other than that, Suite was comfortable (aside from shower leaking onto bathroom floor). I did need to get a magnifying mirror to put on a desk because there was no way to see to put on make up. But what makes this hotel absolutely the best place to stay are the people that work here... Concierges were great and IVAN was absolutely our most favorite -- he got us where we needed to be and made sure we made it home. Also, we were there during a really cold snap in February and the Bartender welcomed us every night and eventually (we were there for 8 nights) got the message that we were coming and wanted a fire. Thank you to the expert fire builder! Ivan we are pulling for you and thanks for making our week plus there so much fun,

There are five Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada's around San Miguel. They are all part of the same hotel but spread about town in smaller old wonderful buildings. There is a wonderful old one on Santa Elena #2 across from the old stone washing basins. The food and the service are better than 99% of the top listed restaurants on Trip Advisor which makes this small hotel and restaurant a very special place! The outdoor courtyard is full of citrus trees in bloom and as you sit and eat, you smell the wonderful fragrance of orange blossoms all around you. The food is a mixture of fusion Mexican and International flavors. The chicken and pork entrees are delicious as are the wonderful variety of appetizers, soups and salads. Their breakfast menu offers the very best huevos rancheros I've ever had in Mexico and second only to Santa Fe, New Mexico's red chili huevos. Please enjoy your meal but don't tell any but your best friends because this is truly a "local's hangout" and we don't want it to become "popularized" by tourists.

This is a collection of rooms in several townhouses in the heart of San Miguel de Allende. Fireplaces in rooms (evenings get quite cold in winter) and our king room was complete with two bathrooms. Service outstanding, especially Francisco -the night bellman- who cheerfully drove us in the hotel Jeep to nearby restaurants. Belmond also offers a cooking school which while it sounds hokey is a lot of fun. We went with Ruben, one of the hotel chefs, to the nearby market and prepared sea bass for lunch. We sampled many items at the market that we would never have eaten on our own. Only negative is the lack of a rooftop bar with a view - a characteristic of the Rosewood (main competitor) about 1/2 mile away.
