Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

The courtyard gardens of Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada provide a leafy respite from the colors, scents and sounds of San Miguel de Allende. Here there is tranquility befitting the cloistral surroundings – some of the intricate stonework dates from the 1400s, and individually designed rooms are reminiscent of Old Mexico. Talavera-tiled bathrooms, copper sinks and stucco walls adorned with original art create a homey ambiance, and the quarry stone fireplace is the perfect place to enjoy an evening glass of wine.

Let Mexico’s prettiest city enchant you: Take a morning stroll down cobblestoned streets past cathedrals and architecture dating from pre-Hispanic days. Learn why San Miguel is a UNESCO World Heritage Site through unexpected detours. Stop for coffee at a sidewalk café in the shade. Taste a crispy, powdered sugar-covered tumbagone dessert. Return to the hotel for a siesta in a poolside lounger.

Overall this was an outstanding hotel and very close to downtown. We had an awesome room with two fire places and a big, comfortable bed. The staff was very attentive to our needs, and we received great guidance on things to do, places to eat, etc. Location of our particular room was a little further out than the other properties, but it was still within walking distance of everything and also next to the park, which was awesome. Overall, we will come back to the Belmond next time we are in SMA.

My wife and I stayed here without the kids. We truly enjoyed our suite and the pool area was quaint and inviting. The service was top-notch, every small detail attended to. This is a very special hotel in a very special town. Highly recommended.

I have known and admired Casa de Sierra Nevada for decades, and eaten in their restaurant a number of times, but never stayed in the hotel until now. My room was just as beautiful and comfortable as I expected (though a big, light-colored rug would have been nice and softened my hard tile floor). The gardens at the Casa del Parque, the building in which I stayed (the hotel has rooms in several buildings around town), were stunning, and the restaurant served delicious food and drinks in a lovely setting. But what was so very excellent about my stay was the amazing service. I required a great deal of assistance with transportation, phone calls, etc., and the front desk staff were remarkably attentive, patient, and helpful. Joel and Mario, in particular, provided service above and beyond any I think I've ever received at any hotel, ever. The breakfast delivered to my room the first morning was gorgeous, fresh, and lavish (so lavish that I did not order breakfast on subsequent days). I requested a fire in my room three times, and each time someone came immediately with an armload of firewood, and built me a blazing, crackling fire. My only suggestions for improvement would be the aforementioned rug, hotter water for my tea in the mornings (tea drinkers tend to like VERY hot), and an upgraded phone. I needed to make a lot of phone calls, which was often difficult to impossible during my stay. The phone in my room seemed new but not of the highest quality or latest technology - but I think perhaps unreliable local phone service was partly to blame, and that is something beyond the hotel's control. Also, my phone was recently stolen, otherwise I could have used that for calls, wake-up, etc., so the room phone wouldn't have been an issue. I will definitely stay at Casa de Sierra Nevada again (can't wait for that!), and will recommend it highly to others!
