Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

The courtyard gardens of Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada provide a leafy respite from the colors, scents and sounds of San Miguel de Allende. Here there is tranquility befitting the cloistral surroundings – some of the intricate stonework dates from the 1400s, and individually designed rooms are reminiscent of Old Mexico. Talavera-tiled bathrooms, copper sinks and stucco walls adorned with original art create a homey ambiance, and the quarry stone fireplace is the perfect place to enjoy an evening glass of wine.

Let Mexico’s prettiest city enchant you: Take a morning stroll down cobblestoned streets past cathedrals and architecture dating from pre-Hispanic days. Learn why San Miguel is a UNESCO World Heritage Site through unexpected detours. Stop for coffee at a sidewalk café in the shade. Taste a crispy, powdered sugar-covered tumbagone dessert. Return to the hotel for a siesta in a poolside lounger.

My stay was short and sweet, but made a lasting impression. I felt like I was at a home away from home at the hotel with the layout of the buildings as well as the level of service delivered. They treat you like family here! The hotel is broken up into "casitas" and it looks completely unassuming from the outside and then you open the doors to a little heaven! I was in Casa del Pargue which has a restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and a beautiful courtyard. Things I recommend during your stay: In- room spa treatments (Laja Spa is temporarily closed, but the spa treatments are still 100% up to par), Sazon Cooking Class (incredible experience, Ruben and Pilar are great!), any recommendation from the concierge team (hot air balloon ride, shopping, restaurant, etc). I WILL be back to this hotel! Cannot recommend it more!

San Miguel de Allende is a UNESCO world heritage site and for good reason. Stunning colonial architecture and vibrant colors make you feel like you are living inside a painting. It is hard to overestimate the charm and appeal of this town. The Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada is the perfect place to stay in this perfect town. The property has two locations, one near the park and the other one nearer to the town square. Each one is a compound of courtyards with rooms and suites. Both properties are lovely, but we were glad we stayed in the one closer to the town center. The view from the street is unassuming, but then when you walk through the door there are a series of courtyards with lush gardens and pool. Our "room" or hacienda as we called it, was comprised of a foyer entry with french doors that went out to a walled-in private patio with lawn chairs and a hot tub, generous living room and bedroom with a fabulous bathroom with copper clawed tub, walk-in shower, and copper double sinks. The colonial decor felt like old Mexico and was totally fitting with San Miguel. We did a lot in the city and surrounding area, but every day looked forward to coming back to our "hacienda" and grabbing some siesta time on the patio. We absolutely hated to leave! A word on the staff - superb. We were treated so well by this staff, from arranging tours, to dinner reservations, and always greeting us with great warmth. The food at the hotel was very good, particularly the breakfast menu with wonderful Mexican breads. San Miguel is a place you will return to, and when I do, the Casa de Sierra Nevada is the only place I will consider staying.

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and it was fantastic. Beautiful hotel, that is actually 4 or 5 separate buildings. Very well located near Jardin Allende and clean. The staff was very friendly, spoke English and attentive. Our room (353) had a great terrace that over looked Parroquia De San Miguel Arcangel which was light up at night and offered amazing views! They also would come and start a fire for us nightly in our room, which you must do! I would highly recommend this hotel. We were choosing between this and the Rosewood, and we were very glad we chose this one over the Rosewood.

I read many reviews online about the best Casas to stay in, and unfortunately, I did not heed the advice. I booked the night before, without making a specific Casa request, and I ended up in Casa Parque. This is not a bad place to stay, as it's right next to the beautiful Benito JuƄrez Park, and in the same location where all meals were served. What I didn't love was that my Superior Room had no charm. It was just a room. Two beds, closet, fireplace and a mirror. There was also a faux mini-bar area, and I say 'faux' because the mini-fridge was sealed shut. What I learned upon departure was that Casa Parque was just remodeled and all the artwork and decor had arrived after I checked-in. So if I choose to stay there again, it would be a different experience. (One would hope!) Best selling points? The staff and food. Andres and Octavio at reception were friendly, warm and helpful. Angeles and Rafael in dining always had a smile and were equally warm and attentive. Since I was a few steps from dining, I had most of my meals there, and I was often the only guest! Nothing disappointed me, and the prices were very fair. All in all, I would return. And I look forward to experiencing another Casa!

Casa de Sierra Nevada is in the perfect location for a first visit to this charming neo-colonial Mexican town as it is a short walk to the main Plaza Allende Garden and the Majestic Church across the street. Although I was with a group , I was traveling solo and safety is a main concern always. I felt totally safe at this hotel because I felt that the staff was always watching out for me. When I arrived to my absolutely fabulous room on the first floor of a courtyard, I noticed tat the window in the bathroom was not locked; staff took care of that immediately! The room had a huge bed with a note asking what softness of pillow I would like. Unfortunately it never got cold enough to like the lovely fireplace. The hand crafted tile shower was huge and always hot water. BTW there was always bottled water for drinking in my room. French doors leading to a semi-private courtyard had heavy draperies to close to keep out light and if other guest passed. One morning I decided to walk to the restaurant for my breakfast as I was told it was two blocks away or I could take their shuttle. As I was wearing sandles on a cobblestone street, it took me a long time plus I stopped to buy flowers from a street vender. Before I reached my destination, a staff member from the hotel showed up to see if I had gotten lost!!! What I like the least was the traffic on the street outside my Casa; twice a day, morning and evening rush ours it was ver heavy and the sidewalks are very narrow. However any sounds from the street were never heard in my courtyard or room.I can't wait to return to Room #484
