Rosewood San Miguel de Allende

We stayed at Rosewood San Miguel de Allende for four nights. The property and rooms are excellent, but service, hospitality, and dining fell short of what we have come to expect from comparable luxury resorts in Mexico, namely One&Only, Belmond Maroma, and Four Seasons properties in the region. I think this resort has potential but needs leadership attention to train the friendly staff at the right levels. PRE-ARRIVAL The concierge team was responsive and resourceful well ahead of arrival, handling both transportation and restaurant reservations. When our driver was delayed by a highway accident, the team notified us mid-air, dispatched a replacement driver, and stayed in contact with us at the airport until we were picked up. PROPERTY, ROOMS AND LOCATION The property is beautiful and well maintained in keep with San Miguel de Allende character. Our room was comfortable and well maintained, with reliable air conditioning, water pressure, excellent black-out blinds. The Rosewood is walking distance from Centro, most of the sightseeing and popular restaurants. SERVICE was inconsistent for a property of only 67 rooms, a size that should make it easy to track guest preferences and history. At dinner at Pirules Garden Kitchen, three separate staff members asked whether we were hotel guests and requested our room number and name, despite the reservation having been made through Rosewood's own concierge desk. At check in, we were told we had complimentary cocktails waiting at Pirules. We ordered, only for the hostess to ask whether we were guests, and request a voucher we had never been given. She then explained there was a separate, more limited menu for the welcome drinks. A gesture meant to convey generosity instead became transactional, closer to a loyalty program perk than a luxury welcome. DINING Food across the property, including breakfast and Pirules, was quite mediocre. Every meal we had outside the resort was better. Breakfast was included in our room rate, but only a single American breakfast option was covered; anything else on the menu, including a side of avocado, carried an upcharge. Some days we were charged for water at breakfast, other days we were not. Similar to the voucher situation, this was akin to what you experience at a Marriott property vs. Rosewood. POOL service operates on a self-serve model. On arrival, staff directed us to locate our own towels and chairs. Cabanas are complimentary, though the lounge chairs in ours had wet, unreplaced covers left over from the previous occupants. The soundtrack at the pool is a steady, high tempo electronic playlist more suited to a day club than a resort pool. I found myself unable to relax at the pool due to the music. Staff lowered the volume on request but said the playlist itself could not be changed. Given the pool's quieter, more retirement age clientele during our stay, I’m wondering what the tone is that leadership is trying to establish at the pool. GYM is spacious and well equipped, and busy every day of our stay. There was no attendant present at any point, and we did not observe equipment being wiped down between guests. HOUSEKEEPING was good. The housekeeper noticed we were low on toothpaste and left a replacement along with a handwritten note which was a nice gesture. OVERALL Rosewood San Miguel de Allende delivers on architecture and design, and its concierge team can execute. But the guest experience around it, from welcome drinks to breakfast policy to pool atmosphere, felt inconsistent and, at moments, closer to a Marriott Bonvoy property rather than a luxury resort. Given the strength of the competitive set at this price point in Mexico, we are unlikely to return.

Amazing stay! This place is magical everyone is amazing, friendly and willing to go that extra mile to make your stay wonderful. We utilized their car service and they picked us up from our hotel in Guanajuato and took us to Rosewood San Miguel de Allende hotel and thenupon departure we arranged car service to Querétaro airport. We were welcomed warmly by reception and given a nice welcome drink. Galilea was warm and pleasant and we were allowed to check in early and were pleasantly surprised with our nice upgraded room 322 which was on higher floor room, had a nice private balcony as it overlooked a nice quiet corner of their beautifully manicured gardens. Deborah, the concierge was wonderful. She organized a walking tour for us and gave us amazing restaurant recommendations! She also always greeted us with her warm smile. She is wonderful and deserves high praise! We would always come back from our daily excursion and go to our room and freshen up and then come down to Bar 1826 where Ulises and Enrique ("Mister") would cordially greet us and make us amazing cocktails. Of course there always is tequila! We also did a tequila tasting and Ulises masterfully educated us on the intricacies of different tequilas. The tequila tasting was wonderful! We would finish our night at Restaurant Luna and Ricardo, Daniel, Osvaldo, Diayana (the host always was pleasant) Breakfast was always wonderful. We always were greeted warmly by Paola the hostess and when we were promptly seated at our beautiful table our servers either Cesar, Lisset, Daniel, or Fernando were always attentive and friendly. We topped off our stay with an amazing spa treatment and Evelyn and Jazmin gave us both amazing spa treatment (We did a couples massage). Overall I can't give enough high praise for all of the staff at this wonderful hotel My wife and I travel a great deal and I have status with numerous hotel chains most notably Marriott where I have Ambassador status (ie highest tier) and I must say this was one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had and that is saying a lot as we travel quite a bit. Highly recommend and can't wait till we come back!

Beautiful hotel! So well taken care of and the grounds are beautiful. Location is also very convenient to central San Miguel. Lovely hotel rooftop restaurant with great view, somewhat heated pool which was nice and relaxing, rooms were very large and with a nice balcony, gym is well equipped. Important thing for families to know is that there is no kids club here anymore and there are limited activities. Even the yoga class I signed up for was cancelled. Not sure why they charge a resort fee when there isn’t really much included with that other than the pool. Would be better just to include any fees in total price rather than adding on resort fees and 10% “service charge” on top of your room rate.

Very pretty hotel setting but the rooms and bathrooms are in need of an update. I get that it’s suppose to feel like an authentic villa from “the old days” but for the price, I want to feel like I’m in a hotel with amenities of the modern world. The main reason I am giving this hotel 3 stars is because of the bar manager, Paula. She is extremely rude and needs a course in hospitality. Our issue with her was ultimately resolved by someone very senior to her, so we are thankful to Rosewood for the swift resolution; however, Paula should find another line of work that does not involve customer service. The daily breakfast is delicious, the gym and spa were both very nice, and the general attitude by the employees (other than Paula) was pleasant and polite. Beware: fireworks happen DAILY between 6-7a in the town. There are ear plugs by the bedside which we used but it’s not possible to drown out the noise completely. This is an issue with the town, not the hotel.

Stunning hotel which is centrally located in the heart of San Miguel. Gorgeous rooftop bar/restaurant with beautiful views of the city. Totally enjoyed our dinning experience here. Great service, wine and cocktail list but fell short on the veggie options on the menu which was a disappointment for me. The garden kitchen restaurant on the property was outstanding. Lovely views, bar, menu and service. I was there celebrating my milestone birthday and every time we checked in at hotel restaurant they would ask if I was celebrating something special and I would say my birthday, but unfortunately I never got a special dessert which was a disappointment. Also, it took a long time to check in and after all that our room was not ready, so they said they will give me call. Two and half hours later never received a call and so I finally checked with the desk clerk and she said our room was ready. I really enjoyed my stay there and would recommend to friends and family.
