Fabulous

Despite the fact that my son & I are were there for only one night AND using Marriott points, we were treated like royalty. It was my birthday and we wanted someplace special in San Sebastian to serve as a base for our night of pintxos. This historic hotel could not be more lux. Guests are served a glass of wine when checking in, and we found a small bottle of Rioja and some chocolates waiting in the room with a welcome note from the Director of Rooms. In the early evening while we were resting up to prepare for dinner on Spanish time, a knock on the door brought a delivery of a bottle of Cava, a chocolate dessert, and birthday wishes (written in Basque) from the hotel team. The building is "a masterpiece of 20th-century Italian architecture" and our room was spacious and pristine. Everything was top notch and reminds you of the hotel's history - we felt a transported in time. The location is near old town and the staff provide a map and recommendations for the best places to find pintxos. I wish we had been able to stay longer and enjoy all the amenities offered at this lovely hotel. I hope to do so in the near future!

Grand hotel but poor on room amenities

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

A grand hotel with the biggest beds we have ever seen. Otherwisee, room amenities were poor - no bathroom amenities nor tea and coffee facilities. You can ask for a kettle, but be prepared for a wait of over an hour. Excellent breakfast and decent gym.

An incredible experience

We had a very memorable experience at the Maria Christina. The hotel is well located in San Sebastián. The rooms were impeccable. The staff was highly professional, knowledgable, friendly, and always appeared genuinely willing to help in any way possible. We hope to return.

Great location in classic hotel

The hotel is right on the river and near the sea. Very short walk to old town and the amazing pinxtos and bars within. Our room had a nice view of the river and no issues with street noise. The room was large with a desk, small chair/settee, and a giant bed. I assume carpet is needed with a classic old hotel but I’m not a fan. The bathroom was modern and spacious. Thank you for having full size (non disposable) toiletries! Great water pressure and nice large fluffy towels. Good hair dryer as well. The lady working the front desk was great when we checked in. She gave great recommendations and their bar/restaurant brochure is helpful. We had a drink in the dry bar, very ornate and classic bar. The only hiccup at the hotel was the WiFi. Not consistent and went down at least once. They did call to let me know when it came back up. Overall very nice classic hotel with great location.

Best option

Fantastic. Highly recommend. Wonderful location. Easy to walk everywhere. Large and comfortable rooms. Luxury amenities. Large towels. Towel warmers in room. Large s showers with high shower heads for tall people. Beautiful bathtubs. Great water pressure. Would never stay anywhere else if we came back. If it rains ask for umbrellas at the front desk.
