Reviews for Hotel Villa Soro

Outstanding staff goes above and beyond

Tremendously helpful staff. We needed medical care, and Gorka at reception helped us navigate various options, arranged transport to the clinic. The staff also helped us coordinate a new automatic car with the rental agency. In addition, rooms are comfortable and elegant, and breakfast is excellent. Ten minute walk to the beach, twenty minute walk to old town. Highly recommended

UNIQUE HOTEL WITH SUBTLE LUXURY

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

It was an absolute pleasure to spent 3 nights at this extraordinary property while exploring San Sebastian! We arrived on a Friday afternoon. Check-in with George was smooth and easy. Our room was in the annex behind the actual villa which suited us perfectly. Very private and I don't think we ever saw (or heard) another guest on our floor. The room itself was large with a lovely view of the garden and patio. Our bathroom had an amazing rain shower and soak-tub. Of course, if you stay in the annex, you have full access to the Villa itself and breakfast is served there each morning. It was nice to relax in the big salon or in one of the niches on the upper floors. The breakfast was excellent with made-to-order eggs and omelets. Coffee was great too! The beach front, tapas bars and shops are about a 15-20 walk from the property, but it's very direct and easy to manage on foot. We preferred staying out of the main tourist area. Thank you again and we will see you on our next visit to San Sebastian!

Good choice for hotel near the city centre

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This is a lovely hotel well situated close to the city centre and despite being just off a very busy road, it’s very tranquil. The property has been beautifully refurbished in the public areas and our bedroom was equally impressive. On the downside, the hotel does not have full dining facilities but right opposite is the Bidaia Hotel with an excellent restaurant (see separate review). Breakfast is offered but rather expensive if you’re not hungry. Instead, we had a cappuccino and pain au chocolat at The Simpsons café overlooking the beach at about €3.00 each. It’s about 10-15 minutes away by foot. Overall despite its limitations, we would happily stay here again.

A lovely city, a great weekend, topped off with a fantastic hotel. Would DEFINITELY stay again

Stayed for a long weekend and at all times felt like I was staying in a "special" hotel. Although about a mile out of town, it was not a problem - a 15 minute or so walk along a quiet, wide pavement which no matter what time - day or night (and a couple of very late nights) everything felt safe. The hotel has plenty of parking (at 10€ per day) and the room we stayed in was large - with our own "garden" area with a couple of sun loungers (although not needed in December). We stayed in the stable block rather than the main house. There was a very large bed, coffee machine, table, couple of comfortable chairs, room safe, built in wardrobe and a large bathroom which contained a large bath, a double length shower and bidet. Also in the bathroom was a hair dryer. The toiletries were by Diptyque, the robes large and comfortable. The towels huge and high quality. In the wardrobe there was a room safe as well. The room had blackout blinds (which I adore) and certainly didn't let the light in. The bed was king-sized and very comfortable. Although we didn't use the free cycles to explore the town, they were offered. Breakfast was both continental as well as cooked and choice was wide including fruit, cereals, meats, yogurts - the restaurant area was large. Although not a coffee drinker, my wife said it gave a much needed kick first thing in the morning. Breakfast runs from 08:00 through 11:00. It was a good breakfast. Didn't eat in the restaurant - couldn't see the point being you go to San Sebastian for the food in the town, not the hotel, although I would expect it to be of good quality Although lacking a pool, the hotel does have a gym (which wasn't used). One night we went back to the hotel bar and spent a good hour talking with the barman who was excellent. All staff we encountered were incredibly friendly and informative and are a credit to the hotel. I'm no Spanish speaker, and all spoke English. The lobby is manned twenty-four hours a day. On the day before we arrived, I received an email from the hotel asking if there were any special requirements and I thought that was a wonderful touch. The hotel is a converted house and is incredibly elegant. The decor is first rate, the stairway as you enter is beautiful to look at and the country house hotel feel is quality. Entrance is via a locked gate (accessible via the hotel key) and provides a degree of exclusivity . Having been to San Sebastian before (and likely to go again) this was my first visit to the Hotel Villa Soro. I would happily stay here, and would look forward to staying again on my next visit.

Five star setting but too many nits....

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 months ago

Setting and location are 5-star--well located beautiful property a longer walk/short cab ride to the center of San Sebastian (we did both) and a lovely retreat from touring the area. Service is friendly and superb. There were too many nits though--we had premium rooms in the main building for most of our five nights that were spacious and well appointed but there was an immediate hit of mildew when you walked in. These rooms also had minimal natural light. The shower had a slow drain (similar problem in our one night in a "Garden" room) which is unacceptable in a property at this level. There were not sufficient unswitched plugs to accommodate the modern traveler. Breakfast was ordinary and it was hard to get sufficient coffee for two without several reorders for the small serving pot. Garden room, though smaller, was a better set up and would recommend based on the price/value equation.
