A very special place. Elegant, yet casual. From checkin to checkout, simply amazing service, quality and a truly lovely experience. Loved the front desk at check in and the bar tender, piano player and ambience, did I mention our room, extra ordinary!! Love love love!!!

Fine old hotel catering to a well-heeled clientele with generous rooms, fine dining and a beautiful waterfront scenery. You may be a bit perplexed by the kitschy 1960s signage as you arrive, but they've obviously been left there on purpose. As soon as you pull up to the porte cochere, you'll realize that you're in a luxury hotel with first-class service. The lobby, lounges and restaurants are all beautifully appointed and the rooms are pretty nice too, with tall ceilings and generous balconies overlooking the Med.

One could not ask for a better view, prettier grounds or friendlier staff. The pools are stellar. The actual rooms, while comfortable, are clearly dated. (In ours, wallpaper was peeling in several areas, painted trim poorly done, etc.). The buffet breakfast was very good. As long as you plan to minimize your time in the room, you will be satisfied.

A classic old hotel that has been kept up. the location is very good, my room had a view of the Mediterranean Sea and the hotel garden. The garden had a pool, but as we were there in March, the pool season had not started, but there were flowers everywhere. The room was large, nice bathroom, very good breakfast, courteous service etc. Why don't I rate it excellent? Well, the lounge area had to few "private areas", sort of difficult to separate groups and for paying €10 for a double espresso in the bar. I would not mind coming back, though.

I have stayed in Royal Sanremo 4 times in last 8 years, last trip was 5 nights. This place is the best deal in the Italian and French Riviera region on the sea, with 5star hotel, massive pool, and right on the seaside. For example, the minimum room is 180-250 EUR in summer here, versus 750-1000 EUR in Cap Ferrat. A big difference. The reason for the price difference is the laborious drives to get anywhere else (e.g. drive from Sanremo seaside up the mountain to the big highway, pay 2 small tolls, and then drive back down again now to the French/Monaco seaside), around 20-30 minutes to Monte Carlo at 8pm, 30-45 minutes to Eze or Cap Ferrat at 8pm, 45min to 1hr to Cannes. However, if this is your first trip to Riviera, this galloping to all spots may not be necessary, as Sanremo can easily fill your vacation with 3-5 days of fun. BEACH TOWN The Sanremo seaside has lovely biking trails for around 15-20 miles and plenty of bike rental huts. Small restaurants dot the seaside and provide beach service. The sand is nice, few pebbles, small waves, beautiful azure sea, tons of mountains to edge of sea. There are plenty of water sports huts with jet skis, water skiing, etc. The town is also quite extensive with shopping district, casino, museums, churches, and a rare Russian church with museum. Plenty of gelatos and Italian clothes boutiques and jewelry stores. French Riviera is fancier, but more unique stuff here. THE POOL & LUNCH RESTAURANT The pool is unique, very deep, with some jets and tunnels and bridges, and very interesting, with grotto cave and a serious diving board for deep dives. Italians build for sport and fun! Around the pool is a series of terraces and buildings for the fancy poolside restaurant. The food is in immaculate buffets or a la carte with excellent quality ingredients. The tables are under a vast canopy, with lovely vines hiding cooling misters for summer, all overlooking the pool. The Italian food is excellent and this is a top location in town for lunch for mayor, business people, and many wealthy hotel guests. Very elegant lunch. Around 80-100 EUR for 2 for lunch antipasta+salad buffet, ice teas, water. MAIN RESTAURANT Nice dinners here on the terrace, all excellent food and service. In the morning the breakfast buffet is served inside and you can eat outside. Would be nice if buffet had more options, but plenty fine. ROOMS The beds are very comfortable. The rooms have been upgrade, modernized. The bathrooms are gorgeous. Recently we had connecting rooms, 1 modernized, 1 older, both were excellent. Both faced the rear mountainside, plenty of sun in room, very nice view onto pineda pines. Around 2000 EUR for 2 rooms for 5 nights in July. I got this deal by booking around November/December. Hotel has parking. OTHER NOTES It is around a 2-3 hour drive from here to Lake Como, a day trip is doable.
