A fabulous hotel, rightly hailed as one of the best on the Italian Riviera. It is an historic place, once the destination if, yes, royalty! But time has not stood still, and the Royal San Remo has kept up and maintained its high standard. Polished, immaculate, with a sweeping lobby and spacious rooms with views of the sea. We had a junior suite with a small balcony, looking out through a towering pine and palm trees. The pool is huge and natural looking, with comfortable chaises all around. We did not use the on-site spa, though it was tempting. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling along the coast.

This is a very pleasant hotel. Old Italian style luxury. A little tired but still lovely. The hotel is very nicely placed within easy walking distance of the main shopping street. With wonderful views of the ocean. Our room was extremely comfortable with two bathrooms, a small living room, lots of cupboard space and a comfortable bed. The staff are wonderful and friendly. Breakfast very pleasant. Very good entertainment in the lounge in the evening. I did find 24 Euro for a Vodka and coke rather expensive. Definitely worth coming again.

We spent one night here to celebrate our anniversary...what a treat! Spa was absolutely amazing...we were slightly out of season which was brilliant as the spa was far from crowded on both the Saturday afternoon we arrived and all day Sunday after we had checked out...in fact we literally had the whole spa to ourselves for about 3 hours on Sunday! The steam room is big with oodles of steam and surprisingly comfy tiled seats and the sauna (vitarium) was very pleasant due to a slightly lower temperature than your average sauna. This actually made it bearable for multiple 20 minute sessions! The Jacuzzi is huge and the 'emotional shower' was a strange but quite enjoyable experience. Didn't get round to trying the heated outdoor pool or any of the treatments but happily spent 4 hours each day in the spa. Breakfast was good...we got up a bit late and only got down 15 mins before deadline (10.30) and were slightly disappointed the food actually started to be removed from buffet at exactly 10.30...gutted but our own fault! Selection was good but not the best I've had in a 5 star. Didn't try dinner there as seemed super expensive however we did have an exceptional meal at a very reasonably priced restaurant next to the Casino very close by, followed by a fun few hours playing poker and roulette! All in all we had a fantastic stay in Sanremo will definately be looking for another excuse to return and do it all over again!

Don't be fooled by the poor first impression as you have to enter this hotel at the rear when arriving by car/taxi. As a result you are missing the stunning facade overlooking beautiful gardens and the majestic sea views. We booked our room through "Leading hotels of the world" and it was described by the staff member who booked us in as "standard". Actually we were very pleased with the room. The entrance door leads to a short hallway with a door straight ahead to the bathroom and a door to the right into the bedroom. So there is an immediate feeling of space and privacy. Our room was overlooking the car park but was very quiet and peaceful - and we were quite happy with it. The bathroom was large and generous of old marble. The bath had a shower head but not a separate shower. There was a bidet which is always welcome. Towels were luxurious and changed twice daily if requested as there was a turn-down service.Toiletries were generous and regularly replenished. Bathrobes and slippers were supplied. The bedroom was very roomy with a very large bed. Sheets were changed daily if requested. Sleep quality was excellent. The decor in our room was dated and should probably be modernised but we liked the shabby chic appearance of it. There was an abundance of storage space and more than enough hangers - sadly not always the case in many hotels. The wooden floors are really beautiful. We did encounter one small problem - after cleaning one day the door was not closed properly and the room was open when we returned to it. I reported this to reception at once. The decor throughout the hotel is of old world elegance and style. The ceilings and chandeliers are exquisite. Carpets are wearing in places but still magnificent. Paintings are of the "old master" variety. There are plenty of sofas and soft chairs in the lounges with huge windows to show off the Mediterranean Sea in all its glory. HOWEVER, this hotel is not pram or wheelchair friendly. A lot of guests with prams had to carry them up and down the steps to the pool and the paths. The pool is fabulous although the paving stones that decorate the ground area can be rough and uneven. The sea water is at a good temperature which makes swimming easy. There is a very deep end and an increasing shallower end so all needs are catered for. Each pair of chairs has an umbrella, table and a pair of loungers so guests have their own little area fully equipped. Drinking water and beverages are very expensive but lunch is reasonably priced and helpings are generous. Towels are ample and the pool area is well staffed. Breakfast was good but not brilliant. There was an option to eat outside on warm days. Coffee was served in pots- I was delighted with this. All the usual fare was supplied with a particular array of beautiful pastries. But there did not appear to be any special orders and I think if you asked for something that was not on display you were charged extra for it. So, for example, for the week we stayed there only scrambled and boiled eggs were offered. Also, while cereal was on offer, we could only find long-life milk to go with it. Milk was served with tea but not enough for cereal. When I asked for milk for cereal the waiter plonked a carton of milk in front of me!!! Burst my bubble a bit. Overall this was a very good experience. The attention to detail is very good - apart from some breakfast loopholes. The gardens are a credit to the staff who attend them with an abundance of colour and variety. Well done. I will surely be back

Such a beautiful hotel. Staff so well trained and accommodating. Spa area incredible and relaxing. Breakfast large with many healthy choices including fresh juicing, fruit, many yogurt choices, smoked salmon and champagne everyday. Table side service for coffee, oatmeal. All staff were great but special note to young man Riccardo who smiled continually while serving 6 of us at breakfast. Also loved Tatiannas smile and service poolside. You can walk everywhere from this hotel, rent bikes for the trail just below hotel, enjoy beach, pool. Room was checked twice a day and great bar and drinks in evening. Highly recommend for an adult get away.
