The Royal Hotel contributed greatly to our enjoyable holiday in Sanremo. The beautiful public rooms, well maintained gardens and terraces and the quirky, quaint swimming pool provided a lovely environment in which to relax after the buzz of the town, which proved a much busier place than we anticipated. We had a junior suite with a sea view which we loved. We were 3 adults sharing the space and there was ample room for both sleeping and relaxing. We were on the top floor which had fantastic views over the gardens, pool and sea. The balcony was large and had not only a table and chairs but a couple of sunbeds too; perfect for relaxing at the end of the day watching the sunset over the sea. The room was decorated in a style in keeping with the age of the building and while not necessarily what you would pick for your home was perfect for the context. There was plenty of hanging space for clothes, lots of hangers, a great hair drier and some lovely toiletries. The bathroom was spacious and well equipped and although the shower was small and quite basic, proved perfectly adequate for our needs. On the whole, the service throughout the hotel was excellent, however there were a few glitches that prevent 5 stars for this. Our first morning at breakfast was not a good experience. We turned up about 10am (breakfast went on until 10. 30) to find the buffet much depleted- lots of the foods had run out and were not replaced, others such as the cold meats and scrambled eggs had been out too long and were dry and congealed. We ordered our tea and coffee on being seated but had to ask 3 times before it arrived, at which point we were almost finished eating! Although this did not bode well, it proved to be the exception. Every other morning the breakfast was a much more efficient and pleasurable experience. We particularly enjoyed the fruit and the selection of pastries! Food service by the pool at lunch time also proved very slow on occasions, although the pool attendants were very efficient in sorting out sunbeds for us, putting up the umbrellas etc. A lovely touch was the fruit skewers brought round to sunbathers in the morning and the small scoop of sorbet in the afternoon- both were much appreciated in the heat. Food and drink at the hotel were very overpriced and although we didn't try the main restaurants, the bar lunches were nothing special. With the town centre and its myriad of bars and restaurants being so close at hand there is no need to eat in the hotel for anything other than convenience. The pool is great- apparently the first hotel pool in Europe?? You can see the additions made to it over the years but we loved it's quirkiness, a refreshing change from the homogeneous pools in most hotels these days. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. It provides a real sense of old world grandeur and is a beautiful place to relax.

This is a stunning hotel with an exceptional level of service. The location is very nice, short walk to the main steet, the old town, the harbour and the beach. Very nice pool area and beautiful terrace. Our room was a bit old fashioned (tired), but there are different rooms to choose from. The best thing about the hotel is the staff! Well done!

Stopped for drinks on the terrace one evening. Beautiful, soothing piano music piped onto terrace from live musician in foyer. Gardens illuminated and a starry sky to accompany our Amaretto sour and shot of JD(pricey at 30 E). Impeccable and courteous service. Oh to be a Belle Epoch millionaire! Go for the experience❤️❤️well worth it! Love Sanremo😘

Me and my partner spent 7 nights in the hotel. We booked a room for 260 euro and than we upgraded to renewed room with a sea view which added 120 euro, so room was at the end quite expensive. Sea view is gorgeous though, so lets say it was worth the upgrade. Its not exactly Four seasons, but pretty close and way cheaper. Room: very comfy, clean (except the yellow stains from the urine under the toilet bowl, I really didn't liked that. I guess it sticks to the marble but you really need to find a way to clean this. I wanted to changed the room because of that but didn't since I guessed is the same in every room) Staff: Extremely friendly. Pool: Very nice salt water pool. You might be surprised when you will smell chlorine in the salt water. There is some tiles falling off but I was not bothered by it, it is an old pool. Summer beds a comfy and service by the pool is great. You can see some tired and a bit grumpy faces one and then but nothing major. Food: Food by the pool was just ok and better in the restaurant in the hotel. Expect to pay 5 euro for an espresso and you wont be shocked :). Prices are high, so just except it and don't stress out about it. Wellness: Nice jacuzzi pool and 2 saunas. I enjoyed it, especially the dark resting area. I had 2 massages and one was way better than the other. I also bought a product for my face (just a hydrating cream, because I run out) and a lady behind the counter didn't know how to advice me at all. So I guess they are not aestheticians just trained to do facials by the book. They were all very friendly though. Advice: 1. Prepare some 5 or 10 euro bills for tips, because you can not leave a tip on the room. 2. The local red wine that they always recommend is quite bad, so if you are a wine lover, don't be fooled. :)
