Review is long overdue- we stayed here for a weekend wedding. Has a great time- beautiful hotel. View from pool is amazing. Style of the hotel it great- cool and contempt- not stuffy- but still really nice. Rooms are all a little different in terms of lay out.

The hotel is fantastic but certainly not worthy of having the Belmond name to it. Having been to a few of the other Belmond properties around the world, the service and experience was just not up to scratch so it was slightly disappointing. The hotel grounds are stunning and worth a walk around! Most of the rooms are not in the main building and in apartments away from it; our room was perfectly fine, comfortable and a nice bathroom albeit boiling hot! The food was excellent, however service was really quite bad. It took almost 40 minutes to get our lunch and we were only 2 of around 10 people dining. When it did come it was the wrong order. Not much of an apology and the waiter seemed to be entirely clueless. The outside terrace however is stunning particularly at night, and the piano playing is a lovely touch. Service by the pool was also pretty poor - took a while for anyone to notice we existed and offer us towels, plus you can’t order food there only drinks. Had teenagers bombing into the pool too which is arguably just not on although more blame to the ignorant parents than the hotel itself! The staff at the front desk were very helpful, friendly and knowledgable about the area and gave us some good recommendations so it’s worth asking them what to do and where to go! My wife and I stayed in a beautiful suite on New Years Eve and had a wonderful time. We highly recommend using the electric bikes, which are complimentary. The view overlooking Santa Barbara is beautiful, and the service was excellent.

Belmond El Encanto is not your typical cookie cutter hotel. Unique location up in the hills in a nice residential neighborhood, 15 minutes drive from State Street. Positives: Historic property. We stayed in the cottage that Roosevelt used for his Fireside Chats. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Apparently they allow dogs. Negatives. Restaurant was okay, but not exceptional. Valet was very unorganized. Took forever to bring our car around each and every time we needed it. On one occasion even bought the wrong car. Overall very good, but not great.

We ate dinner at Belmond El Encanto with friends visiting us in Santa Barbara. We arrived early for drinks but bar was overwhelmed and we were essentially ignored. We stood in line to "check in" for our table (despite waiting in the area for 30 minutes); table was not fully prepared. My wife gave the meal a solid F, claiming her Caesar salad was totally off. My salmon was underwhelming. The restaurant not long ago had service that was almost too accommodating....it now seems like amateur hour. Might give it another chance in a year....or might just delete it from our list.
