This is the best kept secret in Santa Barbara. I am almost hesitant to write a review because I don't want everyone to find out about this secluded, luxurious, classic California style gem in the hills. I say California style because it is lux, but casually elegant with no pretense. this place has character and charm - like the city of Santa Barbara itself. This is not a corporate, sterile luxury resort. Before you go further, I am ONLY reviewing the Sunday champagne brunch offered at The Terrace. I did not stay overnight so this not a review of the hotel. But the brunch...it all started on a glorious Sunday morning. We drove up and were greeted by the valet staff - who were dressed in suits. Very classy, but like I said, no pretentious attitudes here. Upon entering the lobby we were directed to the hostess to be seated for the Sunday Bellini Brunch. We did not have a reservation but fortune was kind and there were plenty of tables so we were seated right away. The brunch includes unlimited champagne (Moet - nothing cheap here), a beautiful appetizer plate of assorted seafood delights, your choice of a lunch or brunch style entree (among other things, they have new york steak, rack of lamb and breakfast dishes on the menu) and then, for the grand finale, as if stunning views of the ocean from the hilltop and decadent food was not enough - there is a dessert station in the hotel wine room. It is magnificent. The floating island with creme anglais is a must try. This dish is a classic dessert that does not make its way on modern menus any more, but after having it at the Belmond, I am a believer that it should make a big comeback. The service was wonderful. My husband and I lingered on as long as we could and truly felt sad to have to leave. The reason I say this is the best kept secret: it truly is hidden away in the hills through residential areas of SB. You can't walk or even easily bike here from downtown. And finally, if you've read this entire review you deserve to know, the price for the feast I described: $75 per person. It cannot be beat. Do not deny yourself this experience. I plan to go back AND stay at the hotel too.

Beautiful location. We had dinner with friends on the terrace. Our table was ready, but we had to ask to be seated after waiting about 10 minutes. The dinner service was terrible--some ordered items never arrived; we had a party of 8 and the entrees did not come out together--we waited five minutes for our party to be fully served. The staff was not attentive--example- my water glass was not timely refilled. These examples might sound picky, but overall, the service was indifferent at best (I don't mean unobtrusive, I mean indifferent). Food was only so-so. Prices were high. No favorable comparison to other places we ate at while in Santa Barbara (Four Seasons, Stonehouse). Our friends who stayed at the hotel had a bad experience with their hotel stay. Ultimately addressed, but only after a lot of grief--not what they expected for the price they paid.

Thank you doesn't seem enough for the wonderful Easter Brunch! Shaun O'Bryan and his staff truly have what it takes to make your El Encanto experience above and beyond any other. The kindness of the staff starts as soon as they open your car door! Our Easter Brunch was delicious, so many dishes to choose from......then off to the dessert tables!!! Shaun choose the perfect seating for our family, up stairs balcony, overlooking the beautiful coast! Truly a delightful experience for all of us. Looking forward to coming back soon to take advantage of all that El Enconto has to offer!

The Belmond El Encanto is quite simply MAGICAL! The property is absolutely smashing and the staff top notch. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts outside every morning and poolside bliss. The room was stunning, comfortable and clean. The VIEWS are breathtaking! And not that you ever want to leave, but the location is perfect to head into town. I will definitely return!

Hi, the rooms here are very nice, bungalows set in lovely gardens, the rooms have patio and veranda, are spacious and comfortable. Amenities were fine, half bottle of wine and daily fruit plate are nice touches. The honor bar which consisted of 2 free bottles of water was a little strange, not sure why it could not be stocked with at least some non-alcoholic drinks. I am however so over 5 star hotels who say they have free wifi but only if you pay the daily resort fee, which also lets you use the fitness center etc. I would just prefer to get the total price not itty bitty taxes and fees added on to make the room rate appear cheaper. Restaurant has lovely views and the food was very good. Service was so-so, our server was off with the fairies except when she wanted the table back, our check on the table before we even finished our dessert. Fitness center is good, great machines but it was let down by not having any towels, no water and no staff. The valets were amazing, they were so on-ball and very helpful, the best staff at the hotel. The hotel offers free bikes and free shuttles, it is a little out of the SB center area but this makes it quieter and it definitely has the feel of being secluded even though it is in a residential area. Santa Barbara is a lovely city, I would recommend a visit, not sure if I would stay at this hotel again.
