What an amazing experience! An oasis in the hills

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

This destination is stunning! The lodging buildings are well situated in the hills; the pathways help you escape to a spacious room. Staff considers everything to make your stay comfortable and unique. The room's fireplace, heated bathroom floors, soaking tub, spa-like shower, very comfortable bed, and the wardrobes transport the guest to a cozy stay. The main building continues the experience with attentive and helpful staff, a living room-feel with seating in the lobby, and an impressive bar. I did not partake in the tea service, but I enjoyed the tea options throughout the property. The great meeting space and patio combined with the superior rooms is a true example of balancing work and pleasure. Enjoy this resort and its restaurant.

BEWARE OBSCENELY HIGH AND NON-DISCLOSED CORKAGE FEES.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We recently dined at the restaurant at El Encanto in Santa Barbara with a party of 8. We brought 4 bottles of wine. The meal was over $1,000 which then had an additional 20% fee, assumably for the servers, added on. Perhaps it was the size of our party? The corkage fees were completely undisclosed: $45/bottle for the first 2 bottles (totally fine with that) and $95/bottle for 3 or more bottles. It would have been nice at a restaurant of this supposed quality to inform patrons of the severe jump in corkage fees for 3 or more bottles of wine. We did not ask what the corkage fees would be because as a group of world traveling, wine drinking friends, we have never encountered corkage fees this obscene. I understand this is to dissuade patrons from bringing their own wine which, from my experience, is usually far better wine for less exorbitant pricing. For all of you who like to bring wine to restaurants, beware of this little money grab. IF we had been told, we would have been happy to purchase wine from the restaurant. But sadly, we did not have that option. Therefore, we see no reason to return to this restaurant.

Blissful retreat, even with an infant

Our first family trip with a 4-month old was always bound to be a challenge, but El Encanto was a gorgeous backdrop that reminded us of Italy and the staff provided friendly and excellent service that felt representative of a 5-star resort to make our first trip as comfortable as possible. Thanks to Amex Platinum and manager Erin, we were upgraded to a larger room with a patio terrace that allowed us to still enjoy room service dinners outside after the baby went down when we didn't opt for an early dinner at the restaurant. The menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner vary enough that we didn't get bored, though we did go into town for a few meals to mix it up. I love that this location is in the neighborhood, part way up the mountain to give you the sweeping views as opposed to beach-side. We were certainly not the only young family visiting, which was a relief to not stick out with a baby in tow! We were provided a crib, baby blanket, baby soaps and a little hummingbird stuffed animal for the baby. They also provide a pillow menu that you can select from! The rooms have blackout curtains and was large enough to tuck her into a corner, and the property is immaculately landscaped with plenty of walking paths to enjoy. We specifically looked for a hotel that we would be happy to stay put at and El Encanto met all our expectations.
