Hotel Casa del Mar, the grandest of the opulent Santa Monica, California beach clubs, dates back to the city's booming Gold Coast years and is one of the most luxurious hotels on the Pacific coast. Built in 1926, the hotel with its 129 elegant guest rooms and suites - including three magnificent two-story penthouses - features incomparable panoramas of the ocean, from Malibu to Palos Verdes. Luxurious guest rooms evoke the mood and style of the Italian and French Rivieras and feature Venetian-designed furnishings. The beach has never been quite so elegant as it is at Hotel Casa Del Mar.

We Stayed here on March 18 and 19, 2024 in a room facing the courtyard. There is no air conditioning so the window was cracked. At 1:30 am, an intruder broke the screen, opened the window and crawled into the room. I yelled and pushed him out. This was traumatic and likely would be for most people. We obviously called 911 and the police responded. There is no hotel staff present at night; the staff, however will respond eventually. The night clerk told the police there was no security camera. In fact, we determined that there was and that the intruder had spent some time in the courtyard scoping out the area. The footage was supplied to the police according to the hotel manager. But, the camera was partially blocked by overgrown shrubs. The courtyard gate does not lock allowing anyone with ill intent to enter. By the time the police were finished with their on-site investigation, the hotel clerk had departed. We called him back and asked for another room for the few hours remaining as our window blind was damaged allowing no privacy. Begrudgingly, he agreed and WE moved our luggage to another room. It was difficult to sleep as many window locks for the new room were broken. Although we asked, the hotel DID NOT refund our money for the 2 night stay noting that we were not injured and did not have our belongings stolen. Basically, suck it up. A basic function of a hotel is to provide a safe and secure stay which this was not.

Hard to write a review of a hotel with a non-functioning website and rude staff on the reservations line, but here goes. Decided to go to LA for a couple of days - Having stayed at Shutters and Casa Del Mar in the past we thought we’d stay at both. Trying to book a single night’s stay at Casa Del Mar, we found that the website simply hung three times in a row. No choice, we had to phone in to make a reservation like it was the 1980s. One positive is that someone was sitting there at around midnight to take the call. The negative? They hung up a minute into the call. I guess with rooms around only $1,500 a night there’s no need for service. Perhaps it’s true what they say…you just can’t get the staff. We booked elsewhere.

Historic gem on a beautiful beach. Ryan treated us to a beautiful ocean view upgrade. Although the weather was in the low 60s due to the marine layer, we still enjoyed the hot tub, which was maintained at a perfect temperature (nice and hot). The room was nicer than a Four Seasons imo. Mid April was definitely off season and there was construction throughout the hotel, but it did not disturb us at all. Hotels.com somehow fumbled the ball on our 60$ per day food and bev credit so be sure to get that in writing. Free shuttle in 3 mile radius after 4pm. Free 2 hr bike rental can be picked up from stand on beach side in front of shutters on the beach. Keep an eye out for happy hour deals at both casa del mar and shutters in the beach. Highly recommended!!!

What a wonderful property! From check-in to check-out, the staff are friendly and accommodating, and they even remember me by name! Impressive! This was a mother-and-son trip; we had rooms with balconies by the pool. Perfect arrangement. We had dinner the first night at their hotel restaurant and enjoyed the live music in the lobby. It was a lively, classy vibe that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. During the day, we drove to LACMA which was an EASY drive. On the second night, we chose from one of the hundreds of dining options around the hotel and again returned to the lobby for more music. Overall would highly recommend the hotel to anyone.

Not worth the money. Very expensive. Paper thin walls. Service on par with a standard Marriott. Lousy food. Long wait in the not-full restaurant for a server and then the order. Hot food served at room temp. Couldn't send it back because we waited so long, we would have missed our flight if it were cooked again.

I thought the hotel was spectacular. I have stayed in many 4- and 5-star hotels around the world, but never thought I would find such a beautiful hotel in Santa Monica.

I was fortunate enough to stay at Casa Del Mar my last two business trips. My room was very comfortable and well-appointed. The fluffy white bed and pillows – divine! The entire staff I encountered were helpful and courteous – from maids to wait staff in the lobby bar and restaurant. Everyone made me feel welcome – rockstar treatment though I'm far from that status. A peaceful haven after a busy day of work.
