I wanted to go to Santa Monica after my last trip to LA with friends. This time I stayed with my family. From the plush toiletries to the cabanna style areas in the restaurant it felt like a luxury beach holiday. I found it strange there was no where to hang your towels, you are suppose to just order more up when they are damp.

The hotel was very nice. The service was outstanding. The location is great. The rooms were very comfortable and modern. Nice amenities in the room and very comfortable beds. Although being on the upper floors is very nice because of the view, the noise from the penthouse restaurant / club can be very loud on the weekends. We stayed on the 16th floor and were woken up both nights around midnight to 1 am from music coming from the penthouse on the 18th floor. It really isn't a big deal but if you plan on sleeping before 1:30 am or have children I would ask to be on a lower floor.

Room was small, but nice. Elevators were not working well over my visit 3/31 - 4/2. On our final night, we both woke up in the middle of the night thinking we had fevers it was so hot. In the morning when we were packing up and showering, our room was boiling. I checked the thermostat because I lowered it from 68 to 65 when we woke up and the room temperature had raised from 73 to 75 degrees. That is when I realized the thermostat was broken and the hot room is what kept us up all night. We also noticed an ammonia like smell coming from the bathroom. Our bathtub train was also clogged with hair so the shower floor would fill up with water and not drain properly. When checking out, I told the front desk about the thermostat and smell in the room. Instead of being apologetic or offering to comp anything (such as a few small penthouse purchases/room service) I was told I should have called in the middle of the night to report the thermostat so they could look at it. The last thing I wanted to do at 3:30am was to have a handyman come in the room to see what was going on. Not the best customer service, especially considering it was booked through my corporate rate and I often put my bosses up at The Huntley when in Santa Monica. I will re-think this next time I book any of their trips because I also had a wonderful stay at The Marriott while in town. A note for room service: I ordered pancakes because it was a vegetarian option on the menu. I took a few bites and could not eat it as the only thing I could taste was bacon. The pancakes must've been cooked in or next to bacon grease. I did not call to complain because I try not to be a complainer and the man over the phone and who delivered was very nice. It would be nice if this hotel had a pool!

We stayed here last Aug 25-29, 2016. This was our second time. The first was in spring as a stopover for our family on our way to La Jolla. While the room was really well-appointed and bears all the nice amenities and upgrades and most of the staff had been pleasant and congenial, there were some cleaning issues needing to be addressed properly. For the 4 nights we stayed, the inside of the toilet has been cleaned once. The scum has been building up within the bottom of the toilet for days. It was really noticeable and I am just surprised that housekeeping missed that. I had been leaving tip for housekeeping so they can clean well. But I need to write the problem on a note pad around the 3rd or 4th day we were in, and that is the only time that they got it cleaned. Also, we were asking that they change our sheets, but I noticed they just straighten up the sheets and covers, refold it well and they are the same sheets as the first day. But in general this hotel is great-centrally located, a walk from the Third Street promenade shops and eating places and the beach across the street. Even in booking our room, I had a run in with a reservation specialist with regards to some promo, complained about it and emailed the management directly, but never got a proper response. If we had more time and I found a better place, I would have not booked our stay the second time at this hotel.

I recently held a Board meeting at the Huntley with a number of out of town guests, and our experience was perfect in every respect. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable and very functional. The meeting spaces were excellent and everything we needed to conduct our meeting was professionally arranged. The Penthouse restaurant is superb. Service was sterling. What a great property!
