While the hotel location is lovely and the front desk staff and valet were friendly and helpful, the room itself was dated and housekeeping was poor throughout my stay. They advertise twice daily service and I returned to my room three out of the four nights of my stay and my room hadn’t been cleaned. The shower head had some sort of green algae stuck to it and it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Not what I would expect from a hotel of this caliber.

This place is unbelievable. From the time you step out of your car an attendant is there waiting and so friendly. Walking into the lobby will take your breath away. The concierge made a hair appointment when I called beforehand that I was wanting for a family wedding along with dinner reservations later in the week. Every one was so kind and our room was everything I dreamt it would be. Normally, no one wants to hang around in their hotel room, certainly not me, but in this case I was very content and relaxed sitting in there and utilizing our balcony as well because it is more like sitting in your home. The bikes were so fun riding along the paved path with the ocean view. I have stayed at several high end places and there is no comparison! My only disappointment in this stay was the day I had to leave. I will be back! Family members who came by, that were staying elsewhere, saw how stunning the hotel and guest room was is now making plans to stay there as well!

Perfect service at a great hotel. I love the music in the large, living room-like lobby. Great pool and right on the beach. The white-haired gentleman at Coast is the best waiter I’ve had in years. Concierge was efficient and very knowledgeable. Will be our go-to in LA!

I’ve been traveling to LA for business for years and, lucky for me, have stayed at most of the 5-star hotels in the city. Shutters is consistently 6-stars. The location, ambiance, bedding, the curated collection of books and furnishings, big and small details that have been considered by people with taste and the impeccable staff (increasingly rare), all set Shutters apart from the other high end hotels in LA. On a personal note. My daughter, who has an even more discerning eye and palate than her parents, now attends college in LA. When I tell her I’ll be in town, she always wants to know whether I’ll be staying at Shutters, her favorite hotel.
