Reviews for Florblanca

Boutique, laid back luxury, a sense of paradise !

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

If you like to be off the beaten track, in boutique, laid back luxury, this is your spot. Santa Theresa is a bustling surf and yoga centre, it’s not yet over developed and still has back country charm and character! This is not a “big resort” environment and let’s hope it stays that way ! The team at Florblanca are amazing and helped us arrange travel to and from seamlessly and with great care and attention. We found paradise.

Five stars for ambience, food, massages, view and especially the Florblanca team! I have been coming here for more than five years and it feels like my second home and my extended family. This is the perfect place for a casual breakfast or smoothie or a special occasion (I celebrated my 50th birthday here). Everything is excellent!

We could not have had a better experience! The Spa was absolutely beautiful and we had some of the most incredible massages, in particular, the Abhyanga with Jessica was mind blowing, she is truly a healer. Our Villa was perfectly rustic and open air with the comfort of A/C in the bedroom. Stefanos yoga classes were top notch. All of the staff was friendly and the whole place has such a peaceful vibe. Being just north of downtown Santa Teresa you don’t have to deal with the chaos and dust of town.

Our Favorite Place

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

The Santa Teresa area may not be for everyone, and that is a good thing. For my family, this little part of the world is our paradise, and Florblanca is a key part of it. Over the past 20 years or so we have stayed at least several days there on 4 or 5 occasions. When we travel elsewhere, we can't help but compare it to Florblanca, and other venues never match up. Aside from the beautiful surroundings, accommodations, beaches and ability to be so close to nature, it is the people of Florblanca who make it our favorite place. Without exception, every person working on the Florblanca team is kind, professional, courteous and willing to go the extra mile for whatever the need may be. This year, even after we left Florblanca (only because we could not book a villa longer) and traveled to a second venue, the kind staff kept in touch with us, making sure our trip continued smoothly and that we had our travel and transfer arrangements in good order. We look forward to our next opportunity to be in our favorite part of the world.

This hotel treated me like a dog

I spent three nights at this hotel. For the first few days all went well (although it should be noted only the bedrooms are air conditioned and not the other rooms). The bar, restaurant, spa and concierge staff were very good. Here is where the hotel turned into a one star nightmare. On my last full day at the hotel, the electricity went out about 2:30 pm. They had a generator but it was broke and useless. At dark (5:30 pm) we lit candles in the living room area. Free food was offered and we accepted. Then we were asked if we would like some free “sushi”. When the sushi arrived, I took one piece and noted it tasted very fishy. The lights finally came back on around 8:30 pm. I went to sleep. We had a bus coming at 7:00 am to take us to a boat to another destination. When I awoke I was severely sick. I was throwing up and had incessant diarrhea. I was on the toilet when the bus arrived. My family went to the bus and I said I would come. I don’t want to get too graphic here so let’s just say I was uncontrollably sick and left a small mess on the bathroom floor. I was now 15 minutes late, severely incapacitated, and about to miss the bus and the boat. I was physically unable to clean the restroom and very late for the bus and was barely able to walk to the bus. When I got to the bus, I asked my daughter to get me some medicine. When my daughter went to the hotel office seeking some medicine, the reservations manager (?) was there and demanded that I come to the office to check out. When my daughter returned to the bus and told me what the lady said, I was going to try and walk to the office. However, the bus operator looked at his watch and said we had to go as there were other people waiting for the bus and trying to get to the boat. So we had to leave immediately. I had given the hotel my credit card when I checked in so I saw no harm as they could simply charge my credit card if necessary. Later that day, I learned that the hotel emailed my Costa Rican travel agent with photos of a burn on a table in the villa we were at and a photo of the mess on the floor in the bathroom. Apparently, the hotel management assumed that we burned the table and left the bathroom mess on purpose to get even with them because they didn’t give us a discount for the last night’s stay, which had been discussed the day before because of the lack of electricity. They also thought that I was trying to run out on the hotel because of the damage and mess, because I never came to check out. I was furious. I could not believe that the hotel sent my travel agent a photo of my mess on the floor. That was extremely private and embarrassing. Moreover, I would not have made a mess if I had not gotten sick from their rotten sushi that they should have known was no good since it had been sitting without refrigeration for hours. The burned table resulted from us lighting a candle provided by the hotel, which was sitting on a wooden tray provided by the hotel and placed on a table. The candle burned through the tray and into the table causing some damage to the table. How was that my fault ? They gave us the candle, placed it on the wood tray and table and didn’t provide electricity. So, it became my fault that the candle burnt through the tray onto the table. When I found out the hotel had sent the photos to my travel agent and told her I was a terrible person. I called the hotel concierge. I told her exactly what had happened and why I was not able to check out. I gave them the opportunity to apologize to me. Instead, immediately thereafter, the hotel called my travel agent and defended their position. They have never once reached out to me personally. The hotel management turned what could have been a pleasant experience into a nightmare. They have no tact and obviously have no concern nor respect for their guests. They assumed the worst, stabbed me in my back, and doubled down by sending very embarrassing photos to my travel agent. This hotel does not deserve anyone’s hard earned money. (The hotel laundry also lost two shirts).

Dear Cody, Cindy, Patricia and the rest of the wonderful amazing Florblanca staff,
Wow....here we are a month later and looking back on that incredible stay we had over Christmas with you all. We truly loved our stay in Santa Teresa and it was most definitely in large part due to the incredible dedication, hard work, and amazing attitude of the Florblanca team. We still can not believe how great and accommodating you all were for us (especially me in my handicapped state of being!). We will come back when I can surf again!
We will most certainly be recommending you to all our friends and family (we already have been raving about you to so many of them!). You guys truly went above and beyond for our family during our stay with you and we will always be exceptionally grateful.
