La Maltese Estate in Santorini, Greece

Legendary sunsets, as beautiful as a dream, will take your breathe away as they fall over the equally gorgeous La Maltese Estate in Imerovigli, Santorini. Dramatically set 250 meters above the Aegean, at the edge of the caldera of this famous Greek island, this all-suite estate effortlessly combines the modern and the mythical with a location unlike any other. With an elegant sophistication and opulence, each apartment-style suite is part old world charm and part contemporary oasis. Rich antique furniture and ornate four-poster beds and accents contrast wonderfully with the flowing Cycladic style to create a charmingly warm, ambient space that instantly soothes and comforts. Step out through large French doors to a terrace, complete with majestic views and invitingly plush sunbeds. A gem of Santorini, La Maltese Estate invites you to join the tranquil flow of the island, and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Aegean.

Sink into comfort in the bright morning light, stretched out next to the pool, after indulging in a full body treatment at the Spa. Sip a cocktail and cool off with a dip in the pool before heading out to sail around the caldera and into the sea on a luxurious yacht cruise. Take an amazing private helicopter tour above the island, watching the Aegean stretch into the distance, then explore Santorini up close. Visit Kamari and hike to the site of Ancient Thera, founded in the 9th century BC, then be amazed by the ancient sophistication found at the archaeological site of Akrotiri. Explore the ocean depths first hand with a caldera dive that is truly stunning, passing over reefs, through caverns, and along Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni, the two "new" volcanic islands in the center. Hike from the nearby capital of Fira, passing through Imerovigli, on the way to Oia to experience a sunset that has captivated people for thousands of years. Afterwards, return to the estate for a romantic candlelight dinner and relax on the terrace. Over exceptional seasonal Greek cuisine that will leave your palate craving another taste, sip a glass of fine local wine and sink into the night's deep velvety romance at La Maltese Estate.

The rooms (seen 2) are clean, very comfortable, fresh and have more the adequate appliances etc... The staff are very friendly, helpful, polite. My wife broke a glass in our room, I asked for dust pan and brush I was told " no, sir I will come now and clear glass you are here to rest and relax" despite insisting I was ok to clear glass. Attention to detail is exceptionally good, As La Maltese occupies a prime location this would be expected to complement your surroundings. The pool is small but more than adequate to cool down in. If you look at any of surrounding pools you can see it is one of the larger of the small pools available. And IT IS FOR HOTEL GUESTS USE!!! Despite a review I have seen! We spent 4 of 7 days at the pool, sometimes without making purchases from the hotel, bar or restaurant still got complimentary towels etc. The breakfast was more than enough to keep us going till early evening. A good variety of pastries to start then a choice of eggs, bacon to yoghurt and waffles. The restaurant may appear a bit pricey, however, the food is exceptional. And the views are priceless! Having seen a guests perform for want of a better word! Some expectations are unrealistic! I think this guy wanted a personal butler and solid gold fixtures and fittings! The staff where very good at politely asking non patrons of hotel, bar etc to leave as they just wanted to take in the stunning views. I can confidently say that my wife and I will be returning in the near future.

Had to wait for 15 min to check in, while bunch of people from hotel were discussing their work routine. When asked them what was going on, they called the guy who was suppose to check me in couple times. Once the guy came to check us in, instead of apology had wrong attitude. Pool hours not defined and they think that 6 PM is dinner time and people staying at hotel can't use pool. Breakfast service was worst, had to wait forever for things to come even after ordering multiple times. When i spoke to a couple from England they advised that they been there for 3 days and it was getting worst. Manager made a comment, "I am about to kill my self, as she couldn't keep up with all the breakfast orders. Our coffee never arrived, another couple left after getting angry.Three other family also had same problem as I had talked to them. They give restaurant patrons more attention than people staying there and paying $ 400 bucks a night. Take your money somewhere else or just go to bar and enjoy views but don't stay there. For some reason I felt like i was given bad looks when I went to front desk( to pick up my car keys couple times, as parking situation isn't great and had to leave my key there so that in case if they need to move my car.) not sure if it was because skin color or me wearing white cargo shorts.

just don t go! Anita and Angelo were very good service. hope they can be hired in another hotel! 1 million dollar view hotel and owners didn't spend 1000 $ in basic things. Pool smaller than my sauna.

Outstanding caldera views in this place just as you imagine but it wants to be a fancy sunset bar more than it wants to be a hotel and the main pool is a little small. Quality furniture though and very comfortable. They've just refurbished and opened the Buddha Bar franchise and this is the main focus. Rooms are pleasant, bright and spacious but don't bother with the private pool rooms that don't have a sea view unless you want to see a fence and hear the road on the other side of your small shared pool with no space for sun loungers. I'm not sure I'd pay the price for the seaviews though here. Staff are lovely and helpful in the main, but the floor manager in the bar didn't want us to sit in any of the 3 or 4 spare prime sofa seats (empty!) closest to the great views unless we were buying exorbitantly priced champagne. Because they wanted to encourage the sale of champagne they said. It's not like anyone was queuing up, the place wasn't even very busy. We pointed out that after paying 330 euros per night to stay in the place we should be able to sit in any unreserved seat that was available! Needless to say, we were not asked again to move and we ordered our cocktails. Breakfast in this place was lovely; but a couple of details lacking. Since when did fresh fruit salad consist only of chopped up apple? They brought strawberries too when requested specifically, but only one- and chopped up into pieces to go with my Greek yoghurt to make it look like more. I asked again and was brought a couple more. This really needs to improve and wouldn't take much to do so. I accidentally left an evening style handbag behind in my room. When I returned 5 days later I was informed it hadn't been found by housekeeping.

We had a wonderful wedding weekend at La Maltese and it was everything we could have hoped for. The new Buddha Bar theme, decor, and vibe is amazing, and makes this feel like a truly world class destination in itself. Each part of the venue - not to mention the spectacular view, at the highest point in Santorini - took our breath away! Most of all, the service and the staff were exceptional - they took care of our every need through the weekend, and took great care of our guests as well. Whenever we needed anything, Sara, Agatha, Aggelos and the rest of the team were prompt and courteous in helping us out immediately. It was a pleasure to interact with them each day, and by the time we left we felt like we had a new family. George, most of all, is a true gentleman, and was generous and attentive to a fault to ensure that every aspect of our special weekend went off smoothly. We are very grateful to him and high standards that he has set for the Maltese. The food was excellent, as were the drinks, and our guests enjoyed every part of the evening, from the ceremony on the terrace, to the champagne on the deck, dinner, and finally the party. La Maltese is definitely the best venue in Santorini - and probably all of Greece - and we will be recommending it highly to all our friends. Thank you once again for an unforgettable weekend.
