La Maltese Estate in Santorini, Greece

Legendary sunsets, as beautiful as a dream, will take your breathe away as they fall over the equally gorgeous La Maltese Estate in Imerovigli, Santorini. Dramatically set 250 meters above the Aegean, at the edge of the caldera of this famous Greek island, this all-suite estate effortlessly combines the modern and the mythical with a location unlike any other. With an elegant sophistication and opulence, each apartment-style suite is part old world charm and part contemporary oasis. Rich antique furniture and ornate four-poster beds and accents contrast wonderfully with the flowing Cycladic style to create a charmingly warm, ambient space that instantly soothes and comforts. Step out through large French doors to a terrace, complete with majestic views and invitingly plush sunbeds. A gem of Santorini, La Maltese Estate invites you to join the tranquil flow of the island, and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Aegean.

Sink into comfort in the bright morning light, stretched out next to the pool, after indulging in a full body treatment at the Spa. Sip a cocktail and cool off with a dip in the pool before heading out to sail around the caldera and into the sea on a luxurious yacht cruise. Take an amazing private helicopter tour above the island, watching the Aegean stretch into the distance, then explore Santorini up close. Visit Kamari and hike to the site of Ancient Thera, founded in the 9th century BC, then be amazed by the ancient sophistication found at the archaeological site of Akrotiri. Explore the ocean depths first hand with a caldera dive that is truly stunning, passing over reefs, through caverns, and along Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni, the two "new" volcanic islands in the center. Hike from the nearby capital of Fira, passing through Imerovigli, on the way to Oia to experience a sunset that has captivated people for thousands of years. Afterwards, return to the estate for a romantic candlelight dinner and relax on the terrace. Over exceptional seasonal Greek cuisine that will leave your palate craving another taste, sip a glass of fine local wine and sink into the night's deep velvety romance at La Maltese Estate.

I have been to Santorini three times and stayed at five different properties, this is by far my favourite! The staff are friendly, personable and professional and always full of energy. I had originally intended to stay for five days but couldn’t bare to leave and extended my stay for another five days, even though I had to rebook my plane ticket, it was worth every cent. The caldera view is amazing and there is a clear view of the skaros. In the mornings and towards the evenings, birds soar freely across the caldera and the view is simply magnificent! I spent a lot of time in the hotel and really loved that the water in the room jacuzzi was always kept warm. The rooms are big compared to other hotels in Santorini (from my experience) and they provide you with plenty of amenities. The restaurant staff, Anita, was particularly friendly and remembered my breakfast preferences. I can’t wait to come back again next season!!

The hotel has potential to be the best hotel in santorini but maybe the manager cannot to administer very well because when i arrived i called them and i asked how much the taxi till there, the guy told me it is free but when my taxi has been arrived i needed to pay 35 euros, the manager told is was misunderstand and gave me one dinnner for free, i’ve waited 20 min to go my room but they gave me a welcome drink, after that i’ve tried to use the jaccuzi but they was trying let the water hot but it was unsuccessful, i’ve booked this hotel because i wanted to use the jaccuzi because santorini is winter now, so i wait, wait and wait and nothing the jacuzzi doesn not work very well in the winter but they did not tell me about that when i booked also i’ve gotten problem about my shower for twice times my shower was not hot just midium or cold, the manager fix it after 20 min but it happened again in my last day there but the hotel did not fix it and i slept without shower!!! Ok it was everthing bad but as I said the hotel has a lot of potential, the view is stunning, amazing, the food was very good also they gave me two wine, the service room is very good and the waitress and Jonas from reception was very helpfull and kind, the breakfast was good as well and it was served in my room!!! If the manager fix the problem i’m sure this hotel would be the best!! After all problems the hotel did not charge anything about the dinner and sparkling water!!!

Where do I begin with the La Maltese Estate, It is probably the most breathtaking meal one will ever indulge in but not for the reasons you may think. Be prepared to pay a very overpriced bill and still be left hungry as you leave. The portions were very small indeed, very fancy plate display but was very average tasting. You may ask why I have then given the La Maltese Estate an excellent rating..? Being from London, and central london at that, one doesn't just attend a restaurant for the food. AMBIENCE in the answer, be sure to make it just as the sun begins to set and order a bottle a cocktail as your browse the small but very interesting wine list. This is arguably the best sunset I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing, its truly breathtaking ( the photographs will explain). The other diners were charming and the service was excellent, don't go for the food or the value and make sure you have enough money left to buy a pizza on the way home; you'll need it! All that said, it is a view that is close to paradise. Regardless how much you have on your mind, from work, financial issues or stress, this place has the ability to take you away from the negativity of daily life. So sit back and enjoy the drinks, preferably with someone special, and take in the most stunning sunset you will ever witness...Laugh, Love and Live!! Ps- Take a few photographs for the archives, but don't waste your time trying to capture the perfect shot! You'll never get it (especially on a phone camera) and you'll miss the essence seeing the true beauty with your eyes.
