Reviews for La Maltese Estate

Never again

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 months ago

most disappointed hotel of our whole reip. 1. First night they relocated us in another hotel with no view because of an electricity problem in our room (I don't believe this). The room was finally ready the day after. Shower and drain was not working well, there was water all over the bathroom. Big whole in the bathroom wall. Safe was not working. Hot tub was not washed very well. Manager never tried to offer an upgrade nor a discount for not having the room on the first night. For a 600CAD$, we were expecting more. Manager is not but really not friendly. Will Never recommand this hotel.

Great family holiday

Review for trip advisor… if you have photos you want to add If you are looking for the hotel the reception is at the Buddha bar, we were greeted by lovely staff who welcomed us onto the bar’s terrace with complimentary drinks. We checked it to our villa which is a little stroll down from the hotel, they call it La Maltese villa. The villa is beautiful and the view is absolutely magic! You really don’t need to leave to see a better sunset! Above the residence there are two other levels with lounges and the top floor has the swimming pool. The pool is a little cold probably as it’s a concrete pool but it was quite hot so our girls didn’t care and still went for a dip. For me it was a little too fresh! We highly recommend the restaurant Mama Lena which is a short stroll back to the main road, family run restaurant, the food is really awesome: home style greek cuisine! Must try the loukamades for desert! The hotels’s staff work so hard and always greet you with a beautiful smile and always try to do their best to accomodate you! We also met the owner who was so lovely and sent us a bottle of sparkling for our sunset viewing! Our breakfast was huge: pastries, yoghurt, fruit, fresh juice, eggs, cereals, you can eat it at your villa or eat and the restaurant which we did as we find it more convenient with kids. Breakfast is served between 9am-12pm but we found we started living like the locals and wouldn’t get up until 9am and head to breakfast at 10am and sleeping really late. We also had dinner at the Buddha Bar one night and the food was lovely, it had a greek twist to the usual Buddha bar cuisine, the black cod and teriyaki salmon are delicious. We have been to Santorini a few times and couldn’t believe how busy Oia and Thira now get especially with the cruise ships so we were so happy to be away from that hussle and bussel but still be close by for a visit. We rented a car to get a round and always were able to find parking around the hotel. If you keep strolling down from the villa there is the most amazing view of Thira definitely worth a look! And there are also some hiking tracks! The hotel room has everything you need: tvs have Netflix and prime, lots of toiletries, Nespresso coffee machine with pods, fridge, iron, aircon…I am sure if you needed anything specific the staff will accomodate to that. There is also a small convenience store if you need something near the main road and if not carrefour is not far for bigger purchases. Highly recommend this villa and this hotel for your next stay.

Overrated not a good option

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed September 24, 2022

VERY overrated, room and terrace dirty, in 3 days they never make up the room the only leave some clean towels. We received the room with the used dirty towels from the previous guest. The room had death flowers and with the old dirty water the smell was really bad I put the flowers out of the room and they never took them. Bathroom old and not in good conditions. Breakfast very poor, in 3 days they never have fruit for the juice included, and the service very poor. For the price you can find many other to much better options.

Stunning views, great staff, disappointing accommodation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed August 31, 2022

We were looking forward to a top class hotel with amazing caldera views and luxurious accommodation. On booking we were offered two suites with shared private pool. To our extreme disappointment on arrival we found the suites and pool were adjacent to the car park with the pool basically almost in the car park. When we objected and said we had expected caldera views and would not sleep adjacent to the car park we eventually were offered rooms with a view at a substantial extra charge. The one room had no facilities for placing our clothes and we had to “live” out of a suitcase. There was no water in the one room nor an umbrella to provide shade on the outside area where we were supposed to lie and relax. Managements response was lukewarm. On the positive side the views are amazing and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good quality. Very little value for money, plus hugely frustrating!! Would not recommend to a friend

Santorini without a view.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed July 27, 2022

Positives: Views from the hotel bar & restaurant plus Alex the Barman. Negatives: The photographs on the Hotels website are very misleading. The Village suits aren’t in the main hotel, there are 200 meters down the hill. The views from most village suits overlook electrical pylons. The hotel has 2 small pools one in the main hotel not conducive to sunbathing: no sun loungers. The 2nd pool is within the village suits, both are plunge pools. No sunshades or umbrellas are available. We changed room after the first night hoping to get a better view, unfortunately more pylons. Suits (1 & 2) back onto the street & are noisy. The jacuzzi in both our rooms didn’t work - the electrics kept shorting-out plus doorhandles kept falling off. No bathrobes are supplied & you cannot sign for drinks or food at the bar or restaurant. Bar prices are expensive, a corona beer is 18 euros and cocktails start at 30 euro. The bar gets mobbed each evening between 7pm & 9pm by non-staying guests wishing to have their Instagram moment and subsequently disappear after sunset; during this period the hotel management pay scant regard for the comfort of hotel guests. On Friday evening the entire hotel bar & restaurant was rented out for a wedding reception with no provision made for guests. Whilst complaints were acknowledged by Costas the manager, he lacked the ability or authority to resolve most issues. My advice would be to bypass this hotel & use a travel company who don’t required payment upfront.
