About the Hotel

The Point was designated as the first Relais & Châteaux member of North America 39 years ago and is the only Forbes Five Star property in Upstate New York. Built by William Avery Rockefeller II a century ago, the fanciful log mansions, crafted of native timber and stone, personifies the 19th Century romantic notion of “roughing it” in great comfort, style, and luxury. Today, The Point pays tribute to this tradition by honoring guests with its unique combination of warm, gracious hospitality, privacy, and thoughtful services in each detail of one’s visit. Enjoy an unforgettable stay at The Point, the only Adirondack Great Camp from the Gilded Age open to the public.

Not enough points to give for this world class stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The Point is simply incomparable. If you want to disconnect and rediscover nature in luxury, look no further. The staff strike the perfect balance—attentive without being intrusive—and the setting is a dream. Days are filled with options: tour the lake in a vintage Hacker-Craft, cast for bass and pike, canoe, waterski, or glide around in a charming electric wooden boat. Prefer quiet? Claim a hammock or a tucked-away nook with a book. Lunch on a private island? Absolutely. Evenings begin with cocktails in the Pub—champagne, wine, or anything you like—followed by elegant dinners in the Great Hall, where world-class cuisine meets rustic Rockefeller history. The Point is a true Adirondack addiction—one stay and you’re hooked.

The most splendid resort

This review is difficult to write because our trip to The Point was magnificent. There is not a single negative thing to write except that we had to leave. The staff was so welcoming and the rooms are comfortable. Every detail, every bite of food, every activity is amazing. It is world class and worth every penny.

Hard to believe, but it just keeps getting BETTER!!

What more can be done beyond Perfection??!! We have been guests of 'The Point' for some 15 years, and every year it just gets better and better. We have seen The Point evolve over the years as many fabulous improvements have been put in place by the owners, Laurie and Pierre Lapeyre! They are the force that is behind the magnificent staff, who are the True Heart and Soul of this incredible property! This year saw a significant change in the appointment of the new Relais & Châteaux Chef, D'Anthony 'Storm' Foster. Storm has brought a new level of extraordinary culinary excellence that has been nothing short of amazing! Add to this the ALWAYS fabulous staff, the splendid environment of the property, and the many added accoutrement that every guest enjoys, and you have a vacation that simply can't be exceeded!

Five Stars Plus for Amazing Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed January 9, 2023

We just returned from an incredible weekend at The Point celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary joined by our adult children. We had heard that The Point was special but the experience exceeded our expectations. Most people rave about summer and autumn experiences, but I must say that going in the winter is also amazing. When the lake is frozen. there are more adventures to be had, but for us, spending time walking, dining and playing in the pub room were really fun. Lunch at Camp David, coffee in our rooms first thing, and dress up for the evening meals was super fun. It wasn't crowded right after New Year's in January so we felt like The Point was our private paradise. The Rockefeller property is luxury Adirondack with each room uniquely decorated and appointed. We stayed in the Boathouse and it was truly outstanding. The view, the fireplace, the comfort of the bed, the decor; everything was luxurious. Having a massage in the room and a photographer for our gathering were extra treats which were happily arranged. The best part of the experience was the staff who did everything to make our time magical and memorable from the moment we arrived until our sendoff. Thank you to Matt (who coordinate reservations and extras) to Kyle (an amazing host), Nate, Tyler, Kara, Shane, Josh and everyone else. What a team of lovely people who aim to please. It is so clear they all love The Point and work very hard to have their guests love it too. Thank you and we'll be back.
