Panoramic views of the sparkling San Francisco Bay and verdant Marin headlands are the centerpiece of Cavallo Point Lodge – part of the LVX collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Entrenched in rolling hilltops bordering the Pacific ocean, this former US Army post harbors an exclusive location with unique amenitites. Originally built as Fort Baker in the early 1900s, historic lodgings were once military barracks during World War II. Ideally located at the northern tip of the Golden Gate Bridge, minutes to San Francisco hot spots, the quaint town of Sausalito, and incredible national parks; enjoy the ease of exploring the bay from the center of it all. Not only are accommodations beautiful and rare, this hotel is also a LEED Gold certified eco-resort.

Cavallo Point is a wonderful place to visit. The beauty of the grounds with the views of the Golden gate Bridge and the scent of eucalyptus make it a memorable place. Don't miss getting a massage at the Wellness Center and bring your bathing suit to take advantage of the outside heated meditation pool. Breakfast and dinner at Sula are delicious and there's fun shopping at The Mercantile. It is a great place for a local getaway. You can borrow the electric bikes to cycle into Sausalito and I recommend the five mile round trip hike to Kirby Beach.

Two Stars I came here expecting a relaxing, upscale spa day — especially given what we spent — but was really disappointed by the experience. While we were quietly enjoying the pool, a staff member approached us and asked us to “be quiet” because someone had their windows open and could hear us outside. At a spa of this caliber, it’s absurd to make paying guests feel like they’re doing something wrong simply for talking at a normal level outdoors. If noise is an issue, maybe don’t book rooms directly facing common areas, or at least soundproof them. Being shushed like children in the middle of a pool day completely killed the vibe and felt uncomfortable and unnecessary. The massages themselves were good, but the overall experience didn’t match the price tag — and being told to keep it down while using the amenities we paid for was the last thing I expected from a place that advertises tranquility and hospitality. Not sure I’d return.

Andrew and I have been coming to Caballo point for 15 or 16 years now. We are local and so after hiking we always sit at the outdoor tables and enjoy wine and food. We have stayed there many times we had our wedding reception there- we have seen quite a few changes over the years, but have enjoyed them all and we absolutely love staying in the historic king rooms, we love that it’s super dog friendly, and all of the staff has been amazing. Unfortunately, I threw my back out this trip so doing the extra things like the yoga and hiking I wasn’t able to partake in but always have a lovely time!!

My wife and I were there to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. The property is beautiful and the resort is well appointed and maintained. The view of the Bay and Bridge were amazing. The staff are friendly and accommodating. That said, there is NO air conditioning in the guest rooms - intentionally as an organizational sustainability effort which made for a VERY unpleasant experience to relax and sleep comfortably - in our opinion such that we would not be returning. Although apparently listed on the website, it was not made clear at time of our booking. If room comfort matters to you, reconsider this property! Hard to justify the rates when comfort and experience is compromised.
