No "Southern Hospitality" Here: Unwilling to Accommodate During Epic Storm Warning

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

We booked a two-night stay at Hotel Bardo as part of a larger trip. Unfortunately, an epic, 30-year winter storm warning for the Southeast prompted airlines to issue warnings and offer penalty-free cancellations for flights to the area. Flying in from California, the risk of being stranded for days was simply too high. We were still within the 48-hour cancellation window and reached out to the hotel to explain the extenuating, weather-related circumstances. Both the front desk and the manager refused to offer any courtesy waiver, refund, or even a credit for a future stay. They were completely unbudging, unlike our airline and AMEX, who understood the severity of the situation. Hotel Bardo strictly enforcing a rigid policy during a rare, dangerous weather event shows a complete lack of understanding or "Southern Hospitality." We were charged $410 for a night we couldn't possibly stay. Due to their unreasonable and unaccommodating stance, we will not be recommending this hotel to any of our friends and family. Very disappointing experience. From CNN "CNN 1/20/2026 A major winter storm is brewing. It’s likely to unleash dangerous ice and snow from the Plains to the East Coast By Meteorologist Chris Dolce, CNN Updated: 2:52 PM EST, Tue January 20, 2026 Source: CNN A major winter storm — the season’s most extreme so far — is set to lash the eastern half of the United States with damaging ice and heavy snow late this week. It’s all being fed by a brutal blast of Arctic air that’s bringing the season’s coldest air to date. “A wide-ranging winter storm will produce great swaths of heavy snow, sleet and treacherous freezing rain from the Southern Rockies/Plains and Mid-South starting Friday and shifting toward the East Coast through Sunday,” the Weather Prediction Center warned Tuesday morning. The storm will begin to intensify in the Plains on Friday. Its wintry mess of snow, sleet and freezing rain could stretch more than 1,000 miles from Oklahoma and northern Texas to North Carolina and Virginia by Saturday night. The National Weather Service has already hoisted winter storm watches for much of Oklahoma and parts of northern Texas into Arkansas and northwest Louisiana. Additional winter weather alerts for other areas are likely in the next day or two. Major travel disruption on roads and at airports is a given across a widespread area from the Southern and Central Plains to the East Coast. Of particular concern is the freezing rain, which could lead to damaging ice buildups in addition to making travel impossible in a worst-case scenario. "

Great Stay

Stayed 2 nights with my spouse. From the moment we walked in to the moment we checked out we had an amazing experience. The rooms are very large and the shower is amazing. Five stars all around.

Amazing Place!

I went to Club Bardo in Savannah to celebrate a birthday, and it was such a great experience! The vibes were so cute from the moment we walked in, and the atmosphere was perfect for celebrating. The staff was incredibly nice, welcoming, and attentive, which made the night even better. We truly had the best time—everything felt fun, smooth, and well taken care of. Club Bardo is the perfect place for events or any kind of celebration. I’ll definitely be back!

Exceptional Stay with Top-Notch Service and Amenities

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Bardo Savannah over New Year’s! The location is perfect, right in the heart of Savannah, and the staff - many of whom were international - were wonderful, friendly, and attentive throughout. We booked through the Amex FHR Collection and were pleasantly upgraded to a Poolside Terrace room, which was amazing. The room itself was beautiful, with a super comfortable bed, clean and well-designed bathroom, and thoughtful touches like robes, slippers, and umbrellas. Special shout-out to Josh, the poolside attendant, who was extremely accommodating and friendly - it really made a difference! Amenities were top-notch, including coffee and light pastries at the Green Room bar, plus access to next door’s Saint Bibiana restaurant Club Lounge, where we were able to enjoy a lovely NYE dinner despite the main dining room being fully booked. Other amenities like the town car, Saks shopping, and bicycle rentals were available, though we didn’t use them. Free street parking nearby was very convenient. Overall, an exceptional stay- highly recommend Hotel Bardo for anyone visiting Savannah!

The Mansion delighted our senses and whetted our appetite to return again soon. The art, ambiance and atmosphere are simply stunning and thoroughly sensational. My wife and I are seasoned travelers with a preference for the very best – Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, St. Regis, etc. We now anticipate a long and memorable relationship with the Mansion on Forsyth Park.
