Mansion on Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia

Savannah, Georgia, is one of America's most interesting cities. Its series of squares, coupled with its superstitious nature, makes it a fascinating find. In the heart of the city's Historic District is the magnificently restored 1888 Mansion on Forsyth Park, a AAA Four-Diamond property. Mansion on Forsyth Park gives southern comfort new meaning with its collection of lavish guest rooms, an extensive art collection featuring more than 400 original pieces, and opulent public rooms including a lobby cloaked in onyx marble. Classic décor along with modern conveniences create a historic and indulgently luxurious hideaway.

Mansion on Forsyth Park's restaurant, 700 Drayton, is a stunning dining destination with a menu of savory specialties and an extensive wine list. There is also Casimir's Lounge, located on the second level of the restaurant and featuring live jazz and blues on the weekends, as well as the Bosendorfer Lounge. You can also visit the Poseidon Spa, hone your culinary skills by enrolling in one of the Mansion's cooking classes, or relax poolside. There is never a shortage of things to see in "America's Most Haunted City" - do a little ghost busting on a haunted history tour, or take a trek on foot to admire the splendid architecture, with many door frames, porches and window sills coated in "Haint Blue" to ward off evil spirits. More conventional activities might include shopping along the riverfront, slipping into a jazz club, or dining at The Pirates House, named for long-ago patrons who frequented the eatery in the late 1700s, which was the inspiration for Robert Lewis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island.

We stayed at the Mansion the week before Memorial Day weekend (checked out on Friday morning). We got a great rate since it was during the week but had we stayed Friday night, the rate would have been $399-way to much for the service level we got. I can't say enough good things about how gorgeous this hotel is. The location (right on the edge of Forsyth Park) is perfect and away from all the noise and congestion of River street but still very walkable to everything. The rooms were beautiful. We had a shower with a garden tub which was wonderful. Now here is my reason for the average rating...the staff was not nearly at the level they should have been for the beauty (and the weekend prices) of this hotel. Upon check in, we asked for a nice place to have lunch while we waited for our room to be available (which wasn't until after the 4pmcheck-in time even though we arrived around 1pm). The concierge was doing "community service" which lasted pretty much the whole first day we were there. The front desk attendee when we asked for a place that had healthy options told us that we needed to not be inSavannah if that what we were looking for. He was not rude but certainly not helpful (especially since most restaurants do have lighter options. Once our room was finally available they said the bags would be "right up". 30minutes later they arrived. Also, on our 2nd day, we were back in the room getting ready for dinner and someone tried to walk into our room. It was a hotel employee and thankfully we had the lock onthe door. They apologized but who just walks into a room without knocking first? Over 3 days I did not see the concierge on the desk even once. Very annoying. I don't think any of the front desk folks were professional enough to provide knowledgeable value-although they did try, they were just young and inexperienced. Bottom line-beautiful hotel, perfect location, but their service was not worth the price.

Rooms were beautiful and spacious. We had a king suite over looking Forsyth Park. Bathroom had a handsome walk in shower and and a jetted tub with doors that opened into the bed area. Very clean and decorated fabulously. Very much the boutique vibe. We stayed on the concierge floor. That was disappointing. Evening hourdevoirs were mehh.. We may have been spoiled by our Embassy Suites stays. Also a teenage guest sitting near us was sharing cheese with her dog. I'm an animal lover, love my dog. But, I don't put her in my lap at restaurants. Location is beautiful. But a little far for walking to Riverstreet. There is a trolley stop adjacent to the hotel. Room service was excellent and valet was superb!

First time travelers to Savannah and used Marriott Destination Points to stay at one of the "Autograph Collection" hotels through Marriott. Beautiful property, excellent service and well trained professional staff made our visit wonderful. Dinner at 700 Drayton with our waiter Terry made our celebration evening perfect - wonderful food. Walking across the street in Forsyth Park delightful - easy walk downtown and yet hotel is located in a quiet residential area.

My husband and I stayed only one night in Savannah on the way to our destination last Saturday night, but after only a few minutes at the Mansion, we wished we could stay longer and will definitely be back. From the second we walked in the door, we were blown away by the luxury and impeccable service at this boutique hotel. We checked in around 1:30 PM and were upgraded to a corner room facing the park. The fresh flowers everywhere was a bonus - even the elevator had a vase attached to one wall that was filled with orchids!. And we loved the whimsical artwork throughout the hotel. After quickly unpacking, we stopped in the gorgeous hotel bar for drinks. Then it started raining (hard), so we stayed for a second drink before heading out to explore. We are fortunate to be Marriott Gold members, so were able to have the complimentary breakfast in the Concierge Lounge. The breakfast lady (I wish I had asked for her name) was so nice and the food was great - especially the homemade grits! The hotel is walking distance to the river, but they do provide a shuttle to their sister hotel - the Bohemian - and we took advance since it was raining. We walked on the way back later that evening, and loved looking at all of the beautiful homes and squares. I can't say enough good things about the Mansion on Forsyth - I can't imagine a nicer place to stay while in Savannah.

Atrocious parking fee of $26 a day. No option to self park. It's utterly appalling to be stuck with a $500 a night room only to be forced to pay an additional $26 a night to valet. Very aggravating to be forced to pay fee after fee when your being charged a premium to stay somewhere.
