Mansion on Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia

Savannah, Georgia, is one of America's most interesting cities. Its series of squares, coupled with its superstitious nature, makes it a fascinating find. In the heart of the city's Historic District is the magnificently restored 1888 Mansion on Forsyth Park, a AAA Four-Diamond property. Mansion on Forsyth Park gives southern comfort new meaning with its collection of lavish guest rooms, an extensive art collection featuring more than 400 original pieces, and opulent public rooms including a lobby cloaked in onyx marble. Classic décor along with modern conveniences create a historic and indulgently luxurious hideaway.

Mansion on Forsyth Park's restaurant, 700 Drayton, is a stunning dining destination with a menu of savory specialties and an extensive wine list. There is also Casimir's Lounge, located on the second level of the restaurant and featuring live jazz and blues on the weekends, as well as the Bosendorfer Lounge. You can also visit the Poseidon Spa, hone your culinary skills by enrolling in one of the Mansion's cooking classes, or relax poolside. There is never a shortage of things to see in "America's Most Haunted City" - do a little ghost busting on a haunted history tour, or take a trek on foot to admire the splendid architecture, with many door frames, porches and window sills coated in "Haint Blue" to ward off evil spirits. More conventional activities might include shopping along the riverfront, slipping into a jazz club, or dining at The Pirates House, named for long-ago patrons who frequented the eatery in the late 1700s, which was the inspiration for Robert Lewis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island.

As a Marriott Platinum, I got some nice freebies, including a Concierge upgrade that was totally worth the off-season price. The pros: SPECTACULAR design, art, atmosphere. Great place for a long, relaxing weekend. The cons: Be prepared for them to nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING! Parking is $29 per day (this is not NYC folks), no water in the rooms, and the toiletries were dismal for a place of this caliber. The service: For the first time I saw "resting b**ch face" on a guy at the front desk! It took all my strength not to slap him. Or laugh really hard. All joking aside, the service is poor, especially in the restaurant. The entire staff talks a great game but they don't get anything done. Tip: Do not pay for the Concierge upgrade. Chips and cokes?!?! Seriously?!?! Bottom Line: VISIT but understand that service and value are not part of the equation. Bring a case of water and snacks to keep the expenses down. Scope out off-site parking before you get there.

We have stayed at this property on a number of occasions and it was previously a favorite for my family. Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing stay during the recent Christmas holiday. From sessions in the spa through to housekeeping, room service and the overall staff attitude towards guests, the hotel has definitely taken a step backwards and it woudl be a stretch to even consider it in the four (4) start category. This is sincerely a shame as most of the Kessler properties set a brand standard that is polished and consistent.

Checking in was quite slow, it was the week between Christmas and New Years, they were over booked and were not expecting so many guests, however they gave us drink vouchers so we could relax in the bar. Once checked in the room was glorious, perfect, comfortable and great view of the beautiful courtyard. The hotel is filled with artwork, the small gallery was lovely. We at dinner at the restaurant in the hotel twice, it was very good. Both bars in the hotel are good as well. Valet service was excellent and very quick when we wanted to go out. We had originally wanted to stay at their other property on the river but when we went over to visit it we were so glad we were at the Mansion instead of the riverfront property. I can't wait to return to Savannah to stay at this beautiful property.

My 2 daughters & I went with my mother to Savannah for her 75th birthday. The Mansion was a very lovely property and our rooms were nice with a big tub to soak in as well as a nice shower. The hotel was also generous to provide some champagne & goodies for our celebration. I paid for us to have the Concierge level and that was really my only disappointment. The breakfast was good, but they didn't serve everything all the way until the end of breakfast hours. So if you came in a half hour before breakfast ended, you weren't likely to have much to choose from. In the evening, the lounge really didn't have anything available except a few snacks & water bottles. Other than that, it was a great stay. Concierge was awesome!

A quick family weekend to our “happy place” (Savannah). We redeemed points, but I was surprised to see that you could definitely get a room for a steal ($169/night off season Booking.com). Valet staff greeted us with a smile and although we had to wait a bit for the front desk staff to help the guests ahead of us (they had a lot of questions and she answered them all in true Savannah fashion), we were quickly situated in our room. A note on the art, I enjoyed it. I did not get the “creepy” vibe described by another reviewer. My 10 year old said the colors of the art on most of the floors reminded her of Cirque du Soleil. Art is subjective, but they did not fill it with pastel landscapes that tend to sit well with everyone’s tastes. I want to thank the Manager I flagged down as they were clearly busy. He and who I assume was his trainee went above and beyond to track down tea. Complaint section: The bathroom floor was stained and the toilet was clearly not sitting properly. 2. For this caliber hotel, I expected a bit more from the housekeeping. There weren’t the special touches you’d get at a Ritz or the JW line (we are Marriott loyal, and usually stay at Residence Inns, but I have been spoiled a few times). 3. No one offered to help with our luggage. But my husband says that’s because we looked like we had it. 4. Concierge staff/ lounge beautiful, but lacking. 5. There was still ice in the valet area making for treacherous walking. All that said, it is a quiet hotel with interesting touches you don’t get elsewhere on a beautiful square.
