Reviews for Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina

Nice property but not fully at its potential

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Stayed at Scrub Island Resort Island Marina for a 3-day conference and mixed in another day of leisure time. On the positive side, the grounds are very nice, the pools were clean and lovely, the ferry worked well but is a bit too infrequent. I very much liked our Wednesday night dinner and entertainment on North Beach, when the hotel closes its restaurant in favor of a buffet and pig roast on the beach. I also appreciated the pastries and bottle of wine in the refrigerator and the cold towel and drink on arrival. Breakfast was a typical Caribbean over priced menu or a buffet that did nothing for me nor my colleagues. The breakfast restaurant service was slow and started off with a healthy dose of chip on shoulder that reduced over time as Ingot to know the servers and they got to know me. We ate dinner at group events off island for the three nights. I also took a day trip following the conference to Virgin Gorda and swam at the baths, plus some beach time and had a terrific lunch at Sugarcane restaurant. Also, went into Roadtown to walk around and shop a bit. Mistake: there is virtually no shopping. Terrific group dinner at Brandywine as well. Generally a nice time. Two caveats; 1) Scrub Island Resort uses very loud gas or diesel powered vehicles to shuttle guests and to move supplies and employees. The noise from these vehicles began as early as 530am outside of my window at the 10 villas. I would not stay in a room that close to the main house again as it is a traffic thoroughfare and a light sleeper’s nightmare. Finally, I agree with many of the other reviewers on lack of value. My one bedroom suite with a negotiated group room rate during April shoulder season was $600 plus $60 service charge plus $30 resort fee plus $66 tax for a total of $756 a night. I did not feel that kind of luxury at this property nor the attention to detail (no towels at upper pool, no call to my room to book return airport drop off from ferry, having to call for housekeeping service as my room was skipped one day, having to request wash clothes as they were not provided on one day, no detergent left at washing machine and more) that should accompany that group price in shoulder season. The attraction is the seclusion, tranquility and beauty of the island and its views but this property can be great but at this time is just good.

Wonderful staff, perfect location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Just finished a stay at Scrubb Island Resort for a business conference. My family attended as well. The resort is conveniently located in the BVI and has a beautiful marina. The north beach and bar are beautiful and a great place to hangout for the afternoon. We had a perfect suite for our kids overlooking the marina. What I cannot emphasize enough is how wonderful the staff were to my family. They were always friendly and helpful throughout our stay, but what really set them apart was when my son had an allergic reaction (no fault of the hotel - we didn’t realize he had recently developed this allergy). The general manager Raj personally took my wife and son to the hospital on Tortola, drove my daughter and I back to ferry harbor later, and picked my wife and son up at 6 am when they were discharged). Above and beyond. Thank you Raj! Definitely will come again!

Was great, now way overpriced

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This was on of my favorite places to go, but they left Marriott Bonvoy group and are now way overpriced for other properties in the in the area to chose from. So sad they chose this path . Maybe with enough comments they will reconsider. Love the BVIs but will stay other than here going forward

Good for overnighting, expensive for groceries.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Great place to stop and restock ice or other snacks, but not good for groceries/alcohol given the prices (but that's to be expected). Scrub is an upscale marina that is clean, fun, and overall a great little overnight stop. We will stop here again on future trips!

GREAT place to visit!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Scrub Island has it all. We brought out bareboat catamaran into the marina for a 2 day stay. The marina staff was super attentive and the dock master was outstanding. We were able to fill our water tanks, get additional provisions, enjoy the pool, swim up bar, and restaurants with zero complications. Plenty of maneuver room for a 50 foot catamaran with a 5.5 foot draft. Breakfast at Cardamom on the veranda was wonderful. Dinner at Donovan’s Reef was delicious - the ribs are NOT to be missed. The slips are quiet by 9 or 10 PM. Notice to Marina guests - the showers sometimes have a line to wait in excess of 20 minutes as the day progresses - plan accordingly. Nice views of Great Camenoe and Marina Cay. We will most definitely return!
