We have chosen Therasia Hotel on Vulcano to start our honeymoon after our beautiful Tuscan wedding. And it was a good decision, because it happened to be the best experience of the whole Sicilian Honeymoon😍😍 Volcano is not the most beautiful from Aeolian Islands, but this hotel is situated in the best spot in the whole Sicily and with extremely stunning views!!! We got an upgrade for a suite with jacuzzi bath on the balcony and have had a bottle of prosecco waiting for us in the room as a warm welcome 😊 Restaurants are very good although the one with a Michellin star is running pretty expensive tasting menu, absolutely not worth paying for because experience is nothing special in the whole. Much more atmospheric is to sit in the italian restaurant with the swimming pool view or just simply go to the port and find a busy and authentic sea food place like we did. Personel in the hotel is very nice and hotel's breakfast is offering a wide choice of food with the most delicious Sicilian granita (every day different flavour!). Room are spacious, clean and modern. I guess they all have a lovely view- our was facing the sea and another island😍🏝 The only big minus of the whole experience was SPA- they don't really speak English, some of the staff is really unpleasant and arguing with guests, and be aware when you order some expensive treatment from the SPA menu because probably you won't get what you asked for but they will charge you 100% of the price anyway, only because they don't accept any complaints about the quality of their work. One more tip- have sunset massage indoors, because it gets pretty windy sunset time so you may get cold and also not much privacy provided in massage tent...🤔 If you happen to have any problems with the hotel's SPA like we did, do not hesitate to speak with the hotel manager. He is a very charming gentelmen who solved our issue in a very satisfactory way so in the whole we left with good memories only. We will come back for sure because this place is a real heaven!!! 😍❤

The Therasia Resort is an absolute gem. Our ocean front room and balcony was out of this world and could not have asked for anything more. The restaurant and staff were superb and the food was amazing. The forever pool was truly amazing overlooking the beautiful sights of the other islands.

Having booked through Fleetway Travel for a week in late September early October. It should be stressed that after a three hour flight, two hour coach journey and 90 minute ferry journey to Vulcano. A complimentary glass of non alcoholic iced tea, on our arrival at the hotel was a bit of a kick in the teeth. They could have stretched to a glass of Prosecco, without much extra expense... However saying that I thought the hotel and location were beautiful. Picking up on what other people have commentated about the costs of water and drinks. We soon discovered the local supermarket (just off the main square, across from the pharmacy). So we were able to source good priced wine and beer for sundowners. There was also a great pianist playing in the bar, upstairs from the dining area, who had a really interesting repertoire, playing everything from covers of the Velvet Underground to Led Zeppelin! Our deal also meant that we were half board and I agree that sometimes the wait for food and the service at breakfast and dinner was sometimes lacking. Overall although the food was great although not to everyone's taste. There was another slight hiccup with a trip to Panarea & Stromboli by night that we booked via the hotel reception. Namely that we were informed that the trip left the harbour at Vulcano at 1pm. In fact it was only because we had arrived early to get a little shopping that we happened to be walking past the harbour at 12 noon as the last call went out for our boat, which was leaving... It all worked out ok and we managed to flag down the boat and get on it. Still a little more communication there would have helped. Regarding the spa, as a fan of saunas and steam rooms this was a delight. However I did try the gym on one occasion and the room was small and only had four machines. Many of the free weights (barbells) were damaged and could not be adjusted or the weight changed. At one point a guest (?) brought his ten year old daughter, who was wearing flip flops in and encouraged her to use the equipment!? I didn't return to the gym after that. However it's a shame because all these criticisms could easily be rectified, with not much effort.

The wrap around views from our deluxe room were spectacular - the highlight of our stay. Other worthy mentions are Josie in the spa who worked magic on my stress pains, the great staff at the pool bar and restaurant, food by the pool is simple but fresh and faultless. The pool area, landscaping and overall relaxed vibe are good. But elsewhere food at the hotel restaurant is adequate but not 5star, and based on our experience in Oct the Michelin restaurant is overrated. It is such a shame they didn't feature the wonderful quality and variety of Italian food and cuisine more but this could have been due our visit being at the end of season (but it's also Harvest time!). Reception staff were good but especially in the restaurant and bar areas service was poor to middling. Our experiences at breakfast are similar to other reviews on this site. The restaurant manager was Basil Fawlty-like in manner and management style - he could be quite confrontational and a bit of a bully if challenged. Decor in the hotel but mainly the bed rooms is dated, and not the best e.g. pillows are awful - from IKEA as I discovered! While the bathroom was very spacious the positioning of the shower head (facing the shower screen) forced you to contort yourself to save either the bathroom floor or your modesty from revealing body parts out of the window! I'm afraid for me, this hotel didn't feel like or demonstrate 5star quality. There isn't much to do on the island but it is restful and a great spot to go island hopping.

We stayed here for the last ten nights that the hotel was open, so of course everything was winding down for the end of the season. There are many extremely good points about this hotel. The majority of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The views were simply stunning and the food was excellent. We stayed half board for which was included unlimited breakfast (including drinks) and dinner (excluding drinks). Also, unlimited use of the spa facilities (except treatments), an outdoor infinity pool, two visits from housekeeping each day and a fridge which was constantly restocked with complimentary soft drinks to replace whatever you use. Some guests were complaining about having to pay E5 for a bottle of water with dinner, but when weighed against the unlimited drinks available with breakfast (which included hot drinks, every type of milk you can imagine, large variety of fruit juices, prosecco and wines), complimentary water and herbal teas available in the spa, complimentary water and soft drinks delivered to the fridge in our rooms, and complimentary soft drinks (such as iced tea) served to those relaxing by the infinity pool; we didn't worry about the extra E5. There is no option to drink tap water here as there is no fresh water stored on the island, all water is imported and tastes disgusting. As well as drinking the water that the hotel provided we would buy extra in the supermarket at the port to store in our fridge. We loved the food. Especially the buffets, one at breakfast and another in the evening for the first course. Plenty of choices and I'm afraid the delicious Sicilian pastries wrecked havoc with my diet... As I've already mentioned, the views are absolutely stunning. We had a garden room and for a while considered paying to upgrade to a sea view - but decided that we would use the money to buy extra treats at the hotel such as wine instead, because everywhere else you went in the hotel had the gorgeous views. We had a ground floor room which looked out onto the garden and it had a nice large patio area with table, chairs and two sunbeds on it. There is a regular free shuttle bus taking you from the hotel to the port from where you can do a little shopping, catch the ferries to the other islands or climb to the crater of the volcano. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Alexandria, Alexander and Vincenzo in the restuarant; Shuva at the bar and Valentina at reception. There was another girl on reception who was also very helpful but I didn't catch her name. On top of our half board price we paid around an extra £400 for lunches and drinks at the hotel over our ten day stay. So why is this only a three star review? We had three very serious problems when we were here. Firstly, our shower was absolutely filthy. When we first arrived I didn't think it was clean, but my husband thought that it was just the colour of the grout in the tiles making it look dirty. As time went on though I often mentioned that I didn't think it was being cleaned. My husband didn't want to make a fuss so we said nothing, he still thought it was the colour of the grout. As the days went on though, I started to notice that if I had left the shower door open, it was still in exactly the same place in the evening (ie - it hadn't been moved to clean in there.) The lighting was quite dark and as I've mentioned before, the grout between the tiles is a dark colour, so it wasn't immediately obvious that I was right in my suspicions. After we had been there about a week I noticed that gunge was floating away where the water hit it - I got hold of a tissue and wiped it around the floor and was disgusted with the result. I was so angry! Annoyed with myself that I hadn't mentioned my suspicions more strongly, annoyed with my husband from holding me back from complaining, and angry that something so basic wasn't being taken care of. I was fuming so much that my husband wouldn't let me complain about it to reception and he dealt with it in a typically British understated way. I would have asked someone to come and look at the shower with me, but he left it with the man on reception to ask for it to be cleaned. It was cleaned with no fuss and little apology. I do think that if one of the girls had been on reception that morning then it would have been dealt with in a more satisfactory manner. A proper apology and a bottle of house wine with dinner wouldn't have gone amiss, but there was nothing at all. The second serious complaint, is that my husband fell over twice in the spa. Again he didn't make a fuss. We didn't mention it at all the first time, and I only mentioned it the second time against his wishes! However, there is a serious issue here which needs addressing for future guests. The first fall was by the indoor pool where the floor gets slippery when it's wet. The second and more serious fall was on the way to the spa. There are some steps leading out of the hotel and towards the spa - the spa steps themselves are quite grippy but the ones leading out of the hotel were very slippery after the rain and my husband slipped on the steps and hurt himself. Not badly, only bruises, but it was upsetting and could be serious if someone older or frailer slips there. I did tell the girls at the spa what had happened so that they could ask someone to dry the steps before anyone else fell. I didn't ask but I had hoped that as he was hurt then they may have offered him a massage or treatment to soothe those hurts - but if you don't ask you don't get.... The last insult was the packed lunch. As we would be travelling over lunch time we decided to ask if the hotel provided packed lunches for us to buy. We were told that they did and they would cost E10 each. So we ordered a couple. The next morning we were told, sorry, we've made a mistake about the price and they actually cost E13 each. We thought this was a bit steep but at that price they must be nice ones. We had been told that they would consist of a couple of rolls - cheese and ham, some water and some fruit. We sat down at the airport and unwrapped our ciabattas and were so disappointed - we had paid E26 between us for two dry cheese rolls (no ham, tomato or any type of salad, or butter - just dry cheese) and small bottle each of water and an apple each - mine was bruised and my husband's was so sour he thought it must have been a cooking apple. Most of the lunch got thrown away. This was the last straw, the last impression that we were left with and it wasn't good. We'd been left with a filthy shower, my husband had fallen over and hurt himself. We paid an extra E400 in food and drink, we'd never helped ourselves to extra food from the breakfast (some guests, to avoid buying lunch, made sandwiches with the breakfast buffet - the only time I took anything with us was one day when we had been give some gappe with almond rolls, and I took those rolls away to eat later because we were full) We'd never demanded any refunds for those serious problems we'd encountered and yet they cheat us on the last day by sending us off with an expensive and naff lunch! It was the last straw, the final insult. One of the other guest had stood at reception arguing over her food bill and getting money off for slow service or things she hadn't liked - trivial matters. We'd asked for nothing and it felt like this lunch was a slap in the face for our forbearance. (As a comparison, we went so spend a few days in Spain after our visit here - our spanish packed lunch consisted for each of us, of four crispy rolls, a bottle of water, a fruit juice, a nice apple, a kiwi fruit, a tomato, pats of butter, a tin of pate, a tin of tuna, a packet of savoury biscuits and a packet of sweet biscuits, sachets of salt and pepper, picnic cutlery and napkins.All good quality and it didn't cost E13 each) I doubt if we will be returning to this hotel.
