Belmond La Residence d'Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia

A stone’s throw from the empire’s legendary ancient temples, this luxurious modern retreat exemplifies traditional Khmer architecture. Here, tranquil gardens – including a pond dotted with floating lotus blossoms - provide a lush backdrop to a pool and spa on the banks of the Siem Reap River. Nearby, open-air markets attract locals and visitors fascinated by the rich colors, textiles, flavors and scents. This is a thriving town with rich heritage.

Before dawn take a tuk tuk ride through Siem Reap to the legendary ancient temple of Angkor Wat. Watch the sun rise in the orange sky over the roofline’s iconic silhouette and tour the rambling ruins – but beware of curious monkeys. Continue your ride past dramatic, centuries-old tropical trees to Angkor Thom nearby. Ride to the historic Foreign Correspondents’ Club for a French-Vietnamese lunch, and tour the Psa Leu markets to pick up silks and spices. Dine on Executive Chef Saul Garcia Ramos’ world cuisine with a Khmer twist at the hotel’s restaurant Circle.

We stayed 3 nights in a deluxe studio suite, which has one of the best bathrooms we've ever seen - huge, with a separate dressing room, completely separated from the very large bedroom/sitting room. Location is very convenient to the markets and restaurants and shopping district of Siem Reap, easily walkable if you watch out for the traffic! The staff are extremely helpful, can't do enough for you, but unobtrusive.

Such a beautiful hotel! We stayed 2 nights and wished we had more time here! The hotel is amazing from the friendly staff who greeted us with cold towels upon each return to the well appointed rooms, wonderful breakfast buffet, and lovely grounds! Only disappointment...after returning from a hot day at Angkor Wat, our room air conditioning had been turned up so room was quite warm! I understand they must do this to save energy but should inquire regarding return time and turn on the air! If you can, stay an extra night to have time to enjoy the beautiful pool and don't miss the incredible local show of theater, dance, and acrobatics by a group called Pharrell...not to be missed!!!

Our family of four had an amazing stay at the Belmond. The hotel and the facilities are top notch and very authentic feeling. The pool area is a great place to cool off after visiting the temples. Walking distance to the various markets and nightlife. Fantastic spot!!

I stayed here with a group of graduate students during a class trip to Cambodia and Vietnam. While I tried to save some money by booking hostels in Phnom Penh and Saigon, our class got a group discount at Belmond La Residence for two nights. This resort hotel was still more expensive than all of my hostels combined, but the extra expense goes a long way! The rooms were incredible, and the pool a welcome relief from the tropical heat. Gotta love being greeted at the door with a damp cloth after a long day hiking around the temples! The staff was exceedingly helpful, and the cocktail lounge provided an excellent place to relax and connect to wifi between checkout and departure.

Only had 3 full days in Siem Rep, so we spent most of it touring. The hotel organised it and had some pre-planned days, however the guide and the driver were very willing to deviate and see other things if it was practical. The tours took most of the days which meant very early mornings, which for the dawn trips the Hotel provided a light breakfast before leaving at 5am (Incidentally they had the best pan au chocolate I've ever had) and it provided a very relaxing place to rest up before the afternoon hours in the swimming pool. Only had two concerns with the hotel; 1. There were quite a few mosquitoes in the room and we had to ask for some extra plug in repellent, there continued to be a few but we didn't get bit (only time i did was dawn at Angor Wat) 2. The loo door was a slidey door with wooden slats (very fitting in with the hotel). I can imagine some uncomfortable moments unless you're comfortable with people!
