Castel Monastero

If you are looking for a spectacularly beautiful resort between Chianti and Brunello vineyards, this is the place. Gorgeous Tuscany setting with two great restaurants, fabulous indoor and outdoor pools and very comfortable rooms. My wife and I really enjoyed celebrating our 35 wedding anniversary at Castel Monastero!

Beautiful property - great location. Very clean - immaculate rooms. Everything from the breakfast buffet, the staff, the spa features…will def return!

Large fairly austere, but beautiful hotel, taking itself a bit too seriously sometimes and lacking in warmth and charm. Room are spacious with very comfortable beds and pressed white linen, decadent bathrooms and huge flat screen tvs. We had an additional bed put in for our 9 year old daughter and still had ample room (Executive Suite). Food was good. There is a Michelin star restaurant which we didn’t try (you need to book), and Cantina which is set in an old cavern and stunning. We ate here one evening and it was superb (and pricey). Note none of these open before 19.30 so quite late for a child. Room service menu was standard burger and fries and ‘ok’ but wouldn’t do a second time. Pool area is unusual. Three pools all made in slate so dark in colour. Pool water is quite cold as all heated naturally and they are big pools to fill. Small bar on site with mixed bag of staff. On the Saturday it was stormy interspersed with sunshine but they shut the bar and despite sun coming out at 3pm never reopened which was not good. Spa is beautiful. Really beautiful. Overall it’s a nice place to stay but possibly more a couples hotel. There were few children about and it’s more geared up to sauntering around in a bathrobe than enjoying drinks round the pool. If you’re looking for something fun with a bit of life in it then this isn’t the place for you. One call out to the manager Xena who was fantastic when we had a few issues.

We spent 4 days at the resort and we had the most wonderful time. The staff was amazing, the food was out of this world and we definitely want to go back. I have not felt that comfortable in a hotel for a long time. We stayed in Pesca 01 which is a fantastic suite with view on the pool.

Castel Monastero is an exceptional hotel. We felt a sense of tranquillity as soon as we arrived; it's simply beautiful. What makes this hotel, however, is not just its location or its glorious rooms - it's the staff. There seems to be genuine joy here for what they've created, and every single one was friendly, helpful and smiling. We were blown away by the quality of the food in the main restaurant. But we did treat ourselves to the tasting menu at the Michelin-starred Contrada. This wasn't just a food experience, but a journey, an event. The Maitre d, Manuela, demonstrated such passion that we will remember not just the meal but the experience - and how she made us feel - forever. We arrived stressed and tired. Four nights later, we were different people. We will be back. Thank you.
