Castel Monastero in Siena, Italy

Ten centuries of history radiate from the hand-hewn stone walls and terracotta floors at Tuscany's Castel Monastero, the centerpiece of a small medieval village called Monastero dell'Ombrone. The monastery first appeared in correspondence in 1044 in connection with the nearby Berardenga Abbey and over the centuries noble families transformed it into a castle. Thanks to painstaking restoration efforts, the ancient ambiance remains – guests from all over the world go for bespoke experiences, such as a Bentley ride through the Tuscan countryside.

Play with the daydream of moving to Tuscany – there are villas for sale at Castel Monastero, after all – as you wander through the property's sun-kissed vineyards. Indulge in an exclusive saline sea oil bath developed by the Thalasso team in Sardinia. Feast on an olive and cheese plate at an outdoor table facing the piazza. Catch a polo match at Villa Sesta Polo Club.

Great resorts start with great service and management. Led by Enzo, the hotel manager, the resort's services are exceptional. He makes you feel like family. The property, rooms, spa, amenities and location next to vineyard make this place magical. The food is excellent too. Great rooms and bathrooms. Five stars. Thank you Enzo and team!!!

We stayed at this wonderful hotel in Tuscany. Had dinner in the wine cellar, spa is wonderful as well as the pool and patios. Definitely a must see. There is also a small bar in the wine cellar as well as one off of reception, both of which make great drinks.

My outstanding experience commenced with a surprise upgrade of the room upon my arrival at this converted Monastery in Tuscany. The room is large and spacious with an earthy feeling resulting from the converted monastery.A most relaxed experience with no pressure on vacating the room. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff started with the manager and was experienced throughout his team. A most enjoyable experience to have breakfast in the old courtyard and dinner in the garden under the moonlight, food was outstanding outstanding.

We stayed for 3 nights on the July Palio package and I cannot fault the experience in any way. The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke flawless English. The breakfast buffet covered every imaginable food group and both restaurants were very good, The Contrada, especially so. The Spa was excellent, again all the staff were simply lovely, and the pool area was extremely well appointed (with mercifully few screaming children). The trip to the Palio itself was extraordinary. The balcony overlooked the San Martino corner so the views were unsurpassed and there was as much food and drink as I could have wished for. I could not have asked for more. I would highly recommend it.

We visited Castel Monastero only for a lunch while going around the Tuscany and it was exactly how the heaven most likely look like. The service for super professional. All the time we had all we needed, but at the same time, the waitress was not disturbing us. The food does not need any comment – Gordon’s perfect style! We have been expecting a lot, but the well-balanced mix of luxury and simplicity and the overall calming atmosphere are really unique.
