Castello di Casole in Siena, Italy

As the crescent moon rises above a sprawling 10th century castle, the silhouette of the rolling hills creates soft shadows, and a gentle breeze envelopes you in the scent of sun-ripened olives. A hint of utopia to some is just the end of another peaceful day at Castello di Casole, an expansive estate in the Tuscan countryside, 1,000 years in the making and lovingly restored with attention to detail by the dreamers at Timbers Resorts. Consisting of an all-suite boutique hotel, lavish farmhouse villas, an on-site spa, and a sumptuous array of fine dining, Castello di Casole captures every aspect of your dream vacation and presents it to you on an idyllic Italian countryside.

Discover unparalleled luxury and comfort as you step onto the radiantly heated floors of your lavish suite to greet the day. With just 41 exquisitely designed suites, the staff at Castello di Casole is able to focus on the needs of each guest with discriminating detail. Savor the opulence of the finest Italian textiles and custom bed linens just a little longer as you enjoy breakfast in bed, courtesy of the hotel's 24-hour in-room dining service. With 4,200 acres surrounding the hotel, set off to explore the grounds with a picnic basket to enjoy a lunch amidst the olive trees. Sample impossibly sweet grapes from the estate's vineyards during a guided tasting tour, or, spend the day getting lost in the breathtaking Etruscan artifacts on the property. With the equally stunning cities of Florence, Siena, and San Gimignano neighboring Tuscany, you can experience the extensive beauty of Italy with a call to the concierge, who will arrange a private car. If you want to stay active during your Italian holiday, make use of the hotel's fitness center and private trainers, or jog through Castello di Casole's acclaimed Model Game Reserve. If the season is right, accompany like-minded guests on a hunting expedition through the lush, scenic reserve. Those who hope to preserve a piece of paradise may purchase one of the 28 farmhouse villas contained within the serene estate. The villas are either restored or reconstructed to emulate their original splendor, and "Owners", as they are affectionately known, enjoy the same services as guests. No matter how you choose to spend your days at Castello di Casole, you will not need to take Italian lessons (which are also available) to know that everything is perfetto.

The staff at this hotel is the best that I have ever experienced in my travels. They think of everything and sometimes even before you need it. Beautiful resort with plenty of day excursions around Tuscany. The concierge can arrange so much that it was hard to choose. It was an amazing experience!

This resort truly is paradise. We arrived in mid-March and we're blessed with spectacular weather. The accommodations are perhaps the best quality of construction and most spacious and luxurious I have been privileged to enjoy. The countryside is breathtaking and there is no better way to watch the Tuscan sunset than on the terrace with a good glass of Brunello. While the location is remote and off the beaten path, that is what makes this such a special place. Timbers resorts has outdone themselves here. The staff are all extremely friendly and see to every detail. You will not regret a vacation here.

This resort is gorgeous, set into a hilltop up along a private winding (and quite narrow) driveway. There are many small buildings and hidden estates along the way, and I get the sense from the brochure that more are being built. The main resort is fashioned after a traditional Italian fort, though only part of the building is very old. It is truly magnificent, and the service efficient, friendly, and professional. The prices at the resort are quite high, not just in the room but at the restaurants and the spa. On the other hand, the clientele and amenities are also top-notch. We had connecting suites with a lot of space for the kids, and HUGE bathrooms with views of the surrounding countryside. The bathrooms and showers are quite possibly the most luxurious that I have come across through many different boutique and luxury-brand hotels. They are decadent and inspire dreams to recreate them at home. On the downside, besides the pool (terrible sun exposure in the afternoons) and spa, there isn't much to do on the property. We didn't dare drive down the windy driveway past dark, and so stuck to the restaurants/room service for dinner. Would be great if they could offer a shuttle service or something so we can explore in the evenings.

Everything about this place was absolutely top notch! The hotel is in a great location with the most beautiful views. The hotel is simply stunning in architecture, furnishings and ambiance. The rooms are to die for and the bathrooms are like heaven. All of the staff were so professional, helpful and genuinely kind. For the size of the estate, they surprisingly have several restaurants, spa, cooking classes, activities/excursions, and a stunning pool. They even have biking, truffle hunting, horse back riding (off site). There are several villas available that are separate from the main hotel which offer more rooms and beautiful views. This was my favorite place we stayed during our 12 days Italian adventure. The next time I return to Catello di Casole, I will definitely stay longer to enjoy more of what the hotel has to offer.
