Grand Hotel Continental Siena

I loved the Grand Hotel Continental which certainly lived up to its name. Stunning public areas and overall just full of character. My bedroom was gorgeous. Super king-size bed was extremely comfortable, excellent pillows. While I did like the stone floors I thought if the room was part-carpeted it would have added extra warmth. Loved the floor to ceiling curtains and the window shutters. It was quite noisy at night up to 1am but then it's bang in the middle of the old town. Housekeeping failed to replace the face flannels on two days. That was careless and should not happen. Breakfast buffet was very good with plenty of options. The fresh fruit salad selection could be so much better. There was only melon and pineapple. Why was there not more choice? There shouldn't be an extra charge for hot dishes from the a la carte. If your room rate is inclusive of buffet breakfast, it should also include any extra items. Even four star hotels don't charge for this. All the staff I met - from Reception, Housekeeping and Restaurant - were unfailingly pleasant and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to stay in this gem of a hotel again and would highly recommend it to others.

Super impressed with this hotel and staff! We were met outside with umbrellas as it was raining. Super friendly staff. Elena helped me contact a doctor's office our first morning as my husband was ill. They also arranged a taxi to get him to the doctor's office. In addition, my granddaughter and I were able to quickly move to another room. Location was great, rooms clean and beautiful, but mostly it was the professional and courteousness of the staff that stood out. We will highly recommend and will be definitely be back!

What a fantastic hotel this is, beautiful things to look at everywhere. There is a lovely quietness about the hotel, it's very peaceful once you enter. We had a deluxe room overlooking the City which was amazing. We had to tear ourselves away from the view from our window and watching the hundreds of swallows flying by. The breakfast is fantastic, and we also ate in the restaurant. Best meal of our trip to Tuscany, and we wished we had eaten there every night!We had the tasting menu which was incredible value and totally delicious. The Chef is so talented. All the staff at the hotel are wonderful - professional, friendly and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble, and they very quickly made us feel that we were at home. I have to give a special mention to Massimo - the Maitre D of the restaurant who seems to always be there! He is the must delightful person you could wish to meet, we looked forward to seeing him every morning and evening. He obviously is very proud of the work they do, and he runs an incredibly organised ship. He is so knowledgable about both wine and food, and is always friendly without being overbearing. Thanks to Masimmo and all the staff for giving us such a memorable stay.

As expected the hotel is quality. Location excellent and service pretty good. In terms of our expectations based on price, we are a little disappointed. Here are the main points of our critique…….. 1. Shower needs upgrading 2. Bed is a little hard to say the least including pillows. 3. TV is way too small and distinct lack of English speaking channels. 4. Breakfast……Very average indeed and a complete of service. 10 minutes waiting for coffee, which was weak and undrinkable. Food quality is ok but below standard for this property. Siena is lovely and we had a great time, just slightly underwhelmed with the Grand Continental.

Lovely room with a terrific view over the rooftops of Siena, all of the staff very friendly, keen to help and seem to enjoy their jobs. Only small criticism would be breakfast… If you want an omelette or pancake there’s an extra charge which is a bit petty and should be included, also the one toaster had seen better days !!!
