Originally built in the 17th century by the great Italian architect Carlo Fontana, Grand Hotel Continental Siena is a jewel in the heart of the Tuscan city of Siena. Its transformation from a splendid aristocratic home to one of the world's most elegant hotels inspired a painstaking restoration, and the hard work was indeed worthwhile. With its original architectural features and magnificent frescoes, including a wall painting of St. Christopher dating from the 15th century, the hotel is now an integral part of the city's cultural heritage.

Great location. Beautiful tradional room - not huge. Beautiful salon upstairs that doesn't get enough use - it would have made a great lobby or bar/dining room. Staff very professional and polite. We got a complimentary bottle of Cava as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary which was a nice surprise. Complimentary water in room. A v pleasant stay.

We stayed three nights at the Grand Hotel Continental. The location right on the Main Street is perfect for walking all over Siena. At check in we were greeted by Lara who had the most bubbly personality. She showed us to our room and made us feel so welcome. She even translated an Italian email I had received about our train schedule. The hotel was once a palatial residence and is gorgeous. Crystal chandeliers and frescos everywhere. The bar area is lovely with colorful velvet furniture. Our room was spacious and had plenty of storage. The bed was very comfortable. All hotel bathtubs are very deep and very slippery. This was the only hotel to provide a rubber tub mat so you don’t fall. A welcome touch. On the vanity were a small bottle of wine and a box of cookies along with a personal welcome note. We assumed these were complimentary and consumed them. The next day another bottle of wine appeared. We did not know until checkout that these were minibar items and we were charged a total of $75 for these three items. The vanity was located on the opposite side of the room from the minibar, so we never considered these were minibar items or we would never have touched them. I think this is very deceptive not to be marked and certainly left a bad taste at checkout on an otherwise delightful stay. We would still recommend this lovely hotel right in the heart of Siena.

Excellent location for centre of old town. We had a junior suite which was very large and with balcony overlooking the main throroughfare. The room had so much character which made it special and distinctive. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Very beautiful, old hotel in Siena. Rooms were very large and pretty, bathrooms were decent (could use a bit of updating), breakfast was good, location was great.

Couldn't locate a hotel better if you tried - right in the centre of it all. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms were large and comfortable. A little awkward to drive into as it is in the pedestrian area but made it in the end - just go slow! Would highly recommend - must be amazing for Il Palio!
