Grand Hotel Continental Siena in Siena, Tuscany, Italy
Originally built in the 17th century by the great Italian architect Carlo Fontana, Grand Hotel Continental Siena is a jewel in the heart of the Tuscan city of Siena. Its transformation from a splendid aristocratic home to one of the world's most elegant hotels inspired a painstaking restoration, and the hard work was indeed worthwhile. With its original architectural features and magnificent frescoes, including a wall painting of St. Christopher dating from the 15th century, the hotel is now an integral part of the city's cultural heritage.
Situated in the Piazza Salimbeni, just a few steps from the Piazza del Campo, famed for its horse racing, the hotel is a place of unforgettable experiences. Whether you are taking a cup of tea in the elegant Enoteca ai Banchi winter garden or visiting the wine vaults for a tasting of fine vintages accompanied by the savories of the Tuscan region, you will know you have entered the realm of privilege. The hotel is the ideal complement to your enjoyment of the region, from the basilicas of San Domenico, built in 1225, to the nearby medieval hilltop town of San Gimignano.

Reviews for Grand Hotel Continental Siena
I booked this hotel as an upgrade to a trip I planned on an online European tour company. I chose it mainly because it is situated in a prime location inside the walls of Siena, but would stay again because it's a fantastic hotel. From check in to checking out, everything was perfect. The staff are very nice, helpful and professional. Because we checked out on a Sunday, they were concerned the trains might not be running frequently so they printed us a schedule and called us a cab to the station at the appropriate time. The hotel lobby is opulent and has a bar and restaurant. We didn't eat dinner there, but the breakfast every morning was excellent. Our room was typical size for a European hotel, immaculate with a comfortable bed, and a private balcony with stunning views of all of Siena. If and when I return to Siena, I will certainly stay at this hotel again.

The first thing I noticed was how helpful the staff was in helping me with parking my car (not an easy feat in Siena!) before I had checked in. The hotel staff was also very helpful in arranging restaurants to eat in although its own restaurant is great, too. The rooms and interior are very nice, the location is perfect....right in the center of everything (per other comments, I note the street is noisy but not much to do about it and not the hotel's fault). In other words, highly recommended!

My husband and I recently spent 2 nights at the hotel and we really loved it - with one exception to be addressed later. Our travel consultant selected it and for good reason; the location is fantastic, the hotel is a wonderful mix of old and new, it feels really elegant but not stuffy in any way. The staff is exceptional -- friendly, helpful - we always arrived and left the building to a chorus of hellos or goodbyes from the delightful front desk staff. We had a huge room with a frescoed ceiling and amazing view. The indoor bar was a nice quiet spot for a late afternoon drink. Breakfast was wonderful - a beautiful setting in the dining room, full buffet and very friendly and attentive staff The only drawback to the hotel is outside of their control -- street noise (front facing rooms) and crowd noise (from nearby local bar) in the back. Our room was on the back side and the first night was not a problem because the weather was chilly and that seemed to keep the bar crowd indoors. But the second night was a big problem - it felt as if we had a giant party IN the room. At 12:30 pm my husband went to speak to the front desk and the gentleman could not have responded better. They gave us the keys to another room (front facing, which on a week night was okay) and we just toddled over to sleep there. They could not have been more gracious to us. We loved the hotel and we did not see any place else we would want to stay while walking around. Guests just need to know that they should discuss the situation when they check-in, work with the hotel to meet their needs, and plan accordingly.

This hotel is a nice hotel that is right in the heart of Sienna. Lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance. The staff goes above and beyond to help if you need anything. My only complaint was that our room was by the main road which seemed to be very busy with people walking till about 2 am. Needless to say we were pretty tired everyday from the loud street noise.

We had a fabulous room overlooking the pedestrian-only main street of Siena. Perfect location. Short walk to Piazza del Campo and iL Doumo and other main sites of town. Service was outstanding. Room was spacious and well-decorated with a beautiful exposed beam ceiling. The hotel was converted from a former private palace. The rooms and common areas are unique and ooze old world charm. The street noise was noticeable at night but not a problem for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back in a heartbeat.
