Grand Hotel Continental Siena in Siena, Tuscany, Italy
Originally built in the 17th century by the great Italian architect Carlo Fontana, Grand Hotel Continental Siena is a jewel in the heart of the Tuscan city of Siena. Its transformation from a splendid aristocratic home to one of the world's most elegant hotels inspired a painstaking restoration, and the hard work was indeed worthwhile. With its original architectural features and magnificent frescoes, including a wall painting of St. Christopher dating from the 15th century, the hotel is now an integral part of the city's cultural heritage.
Situated in the Piazza Salimbeni, just a few steps from the Piazza del Campo, famed for its horse racing, the hotel is a place of unforgettable experiences. Whether you are taking a cup of tea in the elegant Enoteca ai Banchi winter garden or visiting the wine vaults for a tasting of fine vintages accompanied by the savories of the Tuscan region, you will know you have entered the realm of privilege. The hotel is the ideal complement to your enjoyment of the region, from the basilicas of San Domenico, built in 1225, to the nearby medieval hilltop town of San Gimignano.

Reviews for Grand Hotel Continental Siena
Our arrival in Tuscany for a cycling holiday from Siena to Florence started here. We had a fabulous room with a roof terrace. If you can get this room I strongly recommend it as the views are lovely. The hotel is very well placed given its central position so site seeing, shopping and eating out are all very easy from here. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The only thing that I can't rave about is the breakfast which didn't offer the widest selection of food ((in comparison to other hotels we stayed in after) but it is served in a very opulent room with wonderful painted ceilings. If I was in Siena again I would stay again.

Depending on the type of traveler, this hotel is strategically located at major historical attractions. However, things are relatively overpriced especially room rates and private parking charges (EUR 45 per day). But if you want to avoid all the hassles of walking and parking far far away (in this city parking and finding this hotel is real pain), then the convenience charges outweigh the costliness. The summary: Pros - Good location. - Good breakfast. - Good room, but we have been better ones in Matera with lot less money. - Good staffs services. Cons - Expensive parking (€45 per day) - Expensive rooms, you’re not really getting what you paid for) - Noisy room facing the Main Street. - Hot shower is not really hot, more like warm.
When researching places to stay in Siena I was very nervous about all the reports of noise. We were on the first floor (that's Second floor for Americans) over-looking the main street and we didn't find it noisy. maybe white noise at the worse. I am a light sleeper and very sensitive to human noise. Keep your windows closed and you should be fine. But honestly how could you keep your windows open with all the cigarette smoking going on out there. Eww. It was quite difficult to find this hotel even with the directions and a navigator. We got lost and eventually found the piazza you are supposed to double-park in by going the wrong way down a one way street. Once we got parked the hotel took care of the car. I really liked this hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I liked the grand public areas. We had our first Strega of the trip in the lobby bar. We were the only ones there - just us in this grand space. We asked to see the grand room on the web-site. its just one floor up from the lobby. Its open - any guest can go in there. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5. This is a suspicion - not a fact - that they gave us a lower grade room than we reserved. We reserved a Superior Double and I have a feeling that it was a Classic not superior. I recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

Our stay was disappointing. The rooms are dated and not so clean. The carpet in our room was stained and we found hair in our towels. We also didn’t enjoy our room since the loud street noise kept us up all night. When booking a high end hotel, we expect top-notch service and facilities. We won’t stay at this hotel again. On a positive note, the staff was amazing. Their customer service is exceptional. The breakfast was also better than the average hotel breakfast.
We stayed for five nights Oct 2017. The location is perfect: right on Via Banchi di Sopra, Siena's main street. Request a room on the back of the hotel and you will be rewarded with a spectacular view over the city: the Duomo, the Bascilica and the Tuscan countryside in the distance. The room had the old world charm with new world amenities. The breakfast each morning was superb and the staff attentive and helpful (particularly with restaurant suggestions).
