Founded on Englandâ€(TM)s great country house traditions, Charlton House brings a sense of imagination and flair to an old favorite. Tucked into the rolling hills of Somerset, west of London, the manor dates back to 1630. The dramatic décor, however, heralds a new era in design with 25 bedrooms possessing their own identityâ€"in one you may find a grand sanctuary, in another a cozy retreat with a secret garden. Distinguished with a Michelin star for the past seven years, the house restaurant presents imaginative cuisine using fresh West Country produce.

Enjoyed our stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

My husband and I enjoyed our stay. Our children had bought us our stay with spa treatment each, dinner and breakfast included. The staff were all really helpful and friendly they appeared happy at work which always gives a nice vibe. Spa treatments (facial and massage) were really good. Food was excellent. Our standard room could probably do with a bit of an update, however this wasn’t a big issue to us. If you are a perfectionist it may not be the place for you.

Overpriced, tired and worn - but clean. If nothing else available not the worst, but wish we had shopped around.

The hotel was clean enough but so very tired. The overall standard of the hotel, maintenance etc was not in keeping with the prices charged. Limited facikities, no room service, no mini bar etc… most of the staff were nice but not somewhere we would stay again as standards just too low.

Not as luxury as you’d think

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Average,i booked through county hotel breaks so im not sure who’s at fault.I booked a superior room as this was a stay for the night after our wedding. The stay included spa access and Dinner and breakfast. When we arrived we were taken to a double room that was quite frankly shabby considering the calibre the hotel used to be or considers itself to represent.I asked reception about my booking and they checked and realised that they had put me in the wrong room but there were no Superior rooms.Luckily there was a room available for us which was to the size I was expecting. But I’m not sure what would have happened were there not have been the room available?I don’t know if this is miscommunication on the part of the hotel or the third party booking but it would have significantly ruined my weekend if we had to stay in the original room. The hotel needs a total update even in the suite we had it was missing the finishing touches you’d expect it needs a total freshen up the shower controls fell off there’s no glasses in the room no power socket for the kettle on the side no fridges. The food was excellent and the service was too but the hotel itself needs some TLC. Ive basically had an insight to what a standard room would be here and I wouldn’t ever book one of them myself.

An excellent stay

Thank you for an excellent stay in Shepton Mallet. Beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms...elegant style with modern comfort. Good breakfast and staff very helpful. Definitely going to return as it is perfect for visits to Bath and Bristol. Oh yes, and the spa was good, too... peace and Asian luxury.

Perfect getaway in Somerset to attend a wedding!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and well equipped and the ironing board a real help! The bathrooms were large and also well equipped. Breakfasts were fabulous and plentiful. We ate in the restaurant and all of us enjoyed our meals, particularly the main courses. Cocktails lovely. Spa a bonus.
