Facility is amazing, the staff needs customer service training

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 hours ago

The facility is amazing, but the overall customer services is severely lacking. It was consistent with most of the staff we encountered there, so I’m assuming it must be a management issue. Also, pricing on the website was not consistent and they had many reasons why the weekday rate did not apply to us on a Monday…seemed very bait & switchy and no one gave us a good explanation as to why each price bumped up by $30-$50.

Watch out for the upsell

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 12 hours ago

I was extremely excited to take my mom, who has been having health problems, to get a facial. Being a local in the area, I’ve visited the SMI, but not for an extremely long time. We checked in, and instead of being shown where to go physically like the guest in front of us, we were verbally directed, with several steps, turns and stairs. Luckily I don’t have cognitive issues, but my mother does, so I was a little frustrated that they weren’t more helpful. Luckily I was able to figure out where to go, but only after making several wrong turns. I do love the Roman bath experience, so that was lovely, while I waited my turn for my facial. Once in my facial, the aesthetician took a minute or so to look at my skin before she started upselling me for a different package. I did decide to go with it, but was told that the experience would be with all of the usual products. It ended up being a hydrofacial, which while efficient at exfoliating my skin, I received none of the soothing treatments that usually come with a facial. There were several minutes at a time where I just sat, waiting for her to massage my neck, or put lotion on my hands, or at least something. Instead she would wait a few minutes, then pick the machine back up and start again. Now I’m all for going and getting a skin treatment at the dermatologist. It’s entirely different to go to a spa and expect a facial, which comes with the whole experience, the soothing touch, the gua sha massage for the face, the scalp massage, etc. This was none of that. And it was 90 dollars MORE! I was pretty frustrated and then was expected to tip 20% on top of that, because it was already included in the price. Again, I believe in tipping someone for the services they have provided. My mother’s aesthetician was spectacular, went above and beyond to escort her to an outdoor chair after her service, to make sure she was settled before she left her. She deserved the 20% tip for an exemplary job. Make sure to ask what you are getting in the upsell, because you may find a totally different experience than you expected for almost 50% more 😑

An Amazing Place to relax.

We stayed at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn for our 35th anniversary. What a wonderful place! The staff were friendly and helpful. The ritual mineral bath at the spa was amazing. We felt pampered and cared for during our visit. To top it off they happily shipped my husband's beloved electric toothbrush back to us. Highly recommend this place and we will be returning soon.

I loved this “ A LIST excursion “ into wine country!

The grounds of The Fairmount Mission Inn and Spa are beautifully appointed with wide green lawns, colorful flowers, and an abundance of Jasmine whose fragrance envelopes guests upon arrival. The natural surroundings and vintage feel of this historical location give it an aura of class & sophistication. The spa is a marvelous destination place! The mineral pools and spa amenities are exceptional. I checked in at the spa about forty minutes before my 10:30 am message appt. This gave me & my companion time to save pool side seating for after our individual spa treatments. Then we entered into the spa room proper. There we warmed up in the indoor Roman Bath & Hot Tub before our world-class messages. Afterwards we soaked in the sauna, cooled off in a cold splash, then headed out for a few hours poolside! What a heavenly experience! I will definitely return to the hotel and spa again, with friends in tow!

Very underwhelming for a Fairmont

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Our experience was very underwhelming. We stayed in room 108 during our 3 night stay and every morning at 6:00am we were woken by a garbage/recycling truck picking up garbage. The first morning when we were woken up from it we thought it was unfortunate it but at least it wouldn't happen again but then it happened the next morning and the morning after that. Also besides the location, room 108 wasn't very nice. All the windows were covered in a frosted film so you couldn't see outside to anything. Another big disappointment was that when we booked the hotel at the beginning of January no where did it say that the pool would be drained and under construction. We were sadly disappointed when we walked out to go to the pool bar and told that it and the pool would be closed for our stay. My husband and I have stayed at many different Fairmont's and especially like staying on the gold floor so this hotel stay was quite a disappointment. We were underwhelmed by our room last year but we usually don't spend that much time in the room anyways so we decided to book the Fairmont again because we love all the jasmine that is planted all around the property and the taco truck across the street that is open late at night. The positives are the lovely gardens filled with jasmine and the taco truck located across the street that is open late nights.

From our first greeting outside the hotel to our departure we met some wonderful employees of the Sonoma Mission Inn. All were friendly and helpful...exceptional.

The grounds were beautiful; the roaring fires in the fire pit and the lobby fireplace were welcome on a chilly autumn night. The valet parkers were very friendly and quick! They were the staff that consistently called us by name.
