Sooke Harbour House in Sooke, Canada

Vancouver Island is an oasis of abundant evergreens and invigorating fresh air. On one of its beaches lies Sooke Harbour House: a coastal retreat founded by Frederique and Sinclair Philip, a couple with a passion for holistic living. They extend those values to the guests of their B&B, which is tucked away on land once purchased by Andrew Muir. Here, “luxury with a conscience” is what ties together the entire experience, from the spa services to the composting program to the grass-paved parking lot. Here, the stars are the local artists, seals, and native cuisine. As for the stars above, they are always in clear view.

Wake up to the sound of whales mating in the waters below, as the staff delivers a fresh breakfast to your room. After a soak in your room’s Jacuzzi tub, stroll through gardens lush with aromatic herbs and the textures of edible flora, coffee in hand and the salty ocean breeze wafting throughout. Take a charter boat for a six-hour salmon fishing excursion through local waters, and return to the hotel to sample wines from its list of 1250+. Spend the evening in the warm fire light of the Sooke Harbour House Restaurant and explore, for example, a seared red bandit rockfish with chervil potato rosti. Everything on the menu is indigenous to the Southwestern Coast of Vancouver Island, sourced from a network of local organic farms.

I visited SHH with my wife around 15 years ago (before kids and a dog) and had a lovely time. Its a artisanal place, funky, hipster, laid back and friendly. Its family friendly and they love and accept dogs that worked perfectly for us as we brought them all! The grounds are perfect and the bar/casual restaurant is lovely. The only criticism is the main restaurant is not as it used to be. The menu was limited the day we went and the food did not appeal. It seems to have os the food destination title it once held. That was OK though as we found (as a result) our new favorite place in Canada: Other than that the place was fantastic. The room was awesome, split over 2 levels with a gorgeous balcony and bathtub. The service was fabulous. We will be back.

Combine creative one of a kind art work, ocean front property and well designed decor and you will find yourself at this beautiful world class resort. The high prices are well worth the experience. The rooms have fireplaces, sunken tubs for two, steam showers (also big enough for two❤️), comfortable beds, harbor views and fresh cookies welcome you to your room. If it's a special occasion or your just feeling special make sure to find this neighborhood gem.

Sooke Harbour House is always a lovely visit, with beautiful views and the surroundings are amazing! The charming look and feel of the Inn give a unique appeal, there is no hotel like it on the island! The food is always excellent, putting a spin on west coast favorites and knowing they use local ingredients, make it that much tastier! If you're looking for something different and to escape to a peaceful setting, then this is your getaway spot!

We didn't stay here but came for lunch twice when visiting our son in Canada who has stayed there and loves it . The staff were delightful - the hotel gorgeous and the views incredible . The food was wonderful and the experience is certainly one that will remain with me for some time

We stayed at the Sooke Harbour House Resort for three nights (July 7th - 10th). The place is in need of significant TLC. It is tired and showing its age and lack of upkeep. Reception staff on arrival were very unfriendly and unhelpful. Restaurant was biggest disappointment with terrible service and lack lustre food (Halibut was ultra bland and poorly prepared). On the positive side, bar staff and cleaning staff were very friendly. Room, despite need of updating, was very comfortable with pleasant views of the ocean.
