we enjoyed our stay at Anse Chastanet, but there were a few things which could have made it better. the bedrooms and communal areas were rather tired and dated. we don't need air conditioning in the bedroom and like the idea of being open to the elements. however the room we had on the hill had very little through air, so it was baking hot and the fans were pathetic.it would be very easy to overcome this with some proper, heavy duty ceiling fans. the food overall wasn't bad, though the choice in the beach bar at lunch was a bit limited. excellent beach facilities and staff, only marred by the daily invasion of cruise ship visitors. Overall not bad, but it could do with a bit of investment to clean it up and modernise it a bit

I just spent 5 days at Anse Chastanet while on my first visit to St. Lucia. All I can say is WOW!! The room we had was open air (screens and shutters, no glass) so we able to listen to the birds of the island and the ocean. So peaceful, no TV or phone (although there was probably cell service for emergencies). WiFi in the room. Door opened to a balcony with view of the ocean in one direction and the Pitons in the other direction. The restaurants were fabulous, staff treating us like royalty. The beaches were beyond words....clean, full service. The staff at the snorkel shop could not do enough to help this first time snorkeler. The staff at reception was so helpful. This was my first St. Lucia trip, won't be my last and my go-to accommodation will be Anse Chastanet.

We have just returned from a 6 day holiday at Anse Chastenet. While we had an enjoyable time, there were enough things wrong with the resort that we thought it worthwhile to mention. To be fair, there are also a number of good things about the resort. For the most part the staff are extremely helpful and very warm and genuine and we would particularly flag duty manager Monica as someone who went out of her way to help us, but everyone was very friendly, from the security guards on the beach to the housekeeping staff and gardeners. The other amazing aspect of the Anse Chastenet experience is the property itself. We’ve travelled extensively and I don’t think I’ve ever stayed at such a lovely property. There are two beaches and, while they don’t boast white sand, they do boast beautiful, soft, volcanic sand, and they are real beaches, unlike certain resorts I might mention in St Lucia! The Anse Mamin beach, and the rainforest and hiking/biking trails behind it, is a must visit and we enjoyed an enjoyable couple of hours on the birdwatching/nature tour. When we arrived we were informed we were upgraded into two Hillside Deluxe rooms. On the face of it, our room was gorgeous, with a huge seating area with a view over the rainforest and the sea behind it, but we were to find that the devil is in the detail. Most importantly, our bedroom had no mosquito nets. I can understand having no nets on the seating area although this does sterilise a huge amount of the room, but to have no nets on the bedroom, in my view, is unforgivable. In addition, while some parts of the room had wooden slats that could be closed, others didn’t and were fully open. As a result we shared our room with some uninvited guests and suffered a lot of uncomfortable bites. With no way to block the sun, we woke at first light. After we complained, the aforementioned Monica arranged for maintenance to cover the windows, but it took a couple of days to get the covering right and it never solved the mosquito/lizard problem. Added to this that the furniture in the bedroom area was designed for pigmies (very low) and that the fit in the rooms looked 1960s, although I’m reliably informed they were built in the 1990s. The room certainly didn’t seem to have been updated since the 90s and was quite tired. A key issue is that there are no phones in the room so if there was a problem you had to stroll down the (very steep) hill to the Reception. Another key issue was noise – from other residents, staff, from the fishermen who turned up around 06.00 each morning and from normal rainforest inhabitants and, most notably, bats. When we complained about the mosquito problem we were offered a change of room down to one of the Superior rooms but it was small, overlooked and probably would also have been noisy (even though the bedroom did have mosquito nets). Another aspect of our room was that it was located under a Kapok tree. The tree dropped a lot of flowers and seeds such that the path getting to the room was very slippery all day even though the ground staff swept it 2-3 times per day. It was a miracle that we didn’t slip and hurt ourselves. Unfortunately bats are also attracted to Kapok trees and I was divebombed on several occasions. I understand that the ethos of the hotel is to be at one with the environment but I think in the 21st century the hotel needs to admit that noise pollution can impact your stay and think about glassing in the rooms and including air conditioning (note as far as we are aware only the Beach rooms have glass and air conditioning). We didn’t have a good night’s sleep on any of the nights we stayed and my wife had to resort to using noise cancelling headphones to get any sleep. We were also a little underwhelmed by the food offering. The resort effectively boasts two restaurants for the evening, Treetops/Emerald which offers International and Vegetarian cuisine and Apsara which offers a Grill and Caribbean/Indian fusion. We only ate at Treetops once and found the choice limited. We enjoyed the food at Apsara although the level of spice varied every night and was sometimes too spicy. We would have enjoyed the restaurant more if there was a larger menu or some dishes of the day. We were also a bit disappointed with the breakfast offering. While it was a perfectly functional buffet and/or cooked breakfast, when we have stayed at other restaurants in the Caribbean they’ve offered local frills such as guava and mango jam, local fruits and fruit juices made from local fruits, not just the standard apple, orange, pineapple and grapefruit. Another factor to be aware of is that the resort does not have a pool. While the beach is lovely and there is some great snorkelling literally off the beach, some people (including us) like to go to the pool as well. In summary I would say that we enjoyed our holiday but that it could have been a lot better. While it was lovely to relax on the beach, not being able to sleep is unforgivable at a luxury resort when you’ve paid a lot of money for the privilege. Anse Chastenet has lots of potential but we feel it’s time for a modernisation.

We stayed at a different resort - before we did "Bike St. Lucia" we had made a reservation for breakfast at Anse Chastanet. This breakfast buffet reminds me of the wonderful breakfasts in Europe. There was fruit, crescents of all kinds, coconut muesli, fresh fruits, breads, cereals and the option to also order eggs. My wife and I still talk about it...

Visited St Lucia on our 1st dive vacation and we were not disappointed. Our flight was late and since we had missed dinner, they had kept cold cuts and fresh cut fruits for dinner. The food was delicious and set the tone for the rest of the vacation. They really go out of their way to make your stay extra special, the staff are attuned to meet your every need. Shout out to Marilyn, who went out of her way to make sure that we were well served and looked after. We tried all the restaurants including the vegetarian restaurant and loved everything. The best meal was the Valentine’s day dinner. Special mention to the pastry chef, the chocolate croissants for breakfast was out of this world. The diving was great, Charlotte, Beto and team make your dive experience extra special. The dive masters make sure you enjoy your dive and make sure to point the many wonderful fish and coral. The best thing is that all dive sites are so close, most less than 5 minutes away. Special thanks to Davis who really helped improve my buoyancy and went out of the way to make our dive experience was something to remember. Callistus, Kannias, Benita, Felix and the rest of the dive shop crew do everything they can to help you enjoy your dives. Would love to go back again
