Jade Mountain in Soufriere, Saint Lucia

At Jade Mountain, owner Nick Troubetzkoy’s spacious, open-air sanctuaries sit high atop cliffs with the island’s only view of both the Piti & Gros Pitons. These coral-tiled spaces, accented in locally quarried stone, feature 20 different species of tropical hardwood flooring hand-picked from the rain forest of Guyana. Luxurious spa treatments from the resort’s boutique spa Kai en Ciel (House In Heaven) utilize 5,000-year-old Indian Ayurvedic traditions. The Jade Mountain Club Restaurant wraps around a colorful infinity pool and dishes up the creations of award-winning chef Allen Susser. Produce, fruit, and cocoa beans are manufactured on the resort’s organic Emerald Estate farm, an old 18th century sugarcane plantation. With over 1,000 cocoa trees, the resort offers in-house chocolate manufacturing, allowing guests to sample chef creations, sip on chocolate-infused cocktails, and even try their hand at creating their own chocolate delicacy.

Dive into the inviting green waters of the Caribbean and snorkel alongside pristine coral reefs. Cruise out on the ocean aboard the resort’s yacht or 60 foot catamaran. Indulge in the chocolate laboratory and create your own decadent truffles. Feast on the refreshing and organic mango & papaya creations of Allen Susser from your private enclave on Anse Mamin beach. Unwind with a romantic Alchemy Of Two spa treatment before soaking in your private infinity pool.

We chose Jade Mountain to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday, and we could not have been more pleased. We stayed in a Moon Sanctuary with the Total Romance Package and we were delighted with our choice. Our room was on the second level of the hotel (I think there are eight?) and all of the levels have a great view of the Pitons. The Room: The photos on the website are amazing, and we were prepared for the room to be nice but probably not as breathtaking as the photos. We were wrong, the room in person is BETTER. We walked into our room for the first time after a fairly long day of travel and just stood there, stunned. This is the first room we have ever stayed in that we photographed. Multiple times. Our infinity pool, with the view of the Pitons beyond, was incredible. We loved our bed with the mosquito netting (and even a ceiling fan inside the bed). The bathroom was open and luxurious, with a wonderful shower. I admit that I had some concerns about privacy, climate, and bugs, but there was no reason. The room is totally private, even without the fourth wall, the only thing beyond the wall are the sea and the Pitons. With an average daily high of 88F, I figured we would be too warm in a room without a/c, but it was never a problem. There were EIGHT ceiling fans in our room, plus the one in the bed, and the breeze from the open wall coming over the cool pool water kept us very comfortable. I had one bug bite during our six day stay, and I got it while on an excursion, not in my room. The hotel provides you with several types of bug spray in the room, if you need it, but we found we really didn't. Further, in the evening while we were at dinner, someone would sneak in our room, turn down the bed, put down the netting, and light citronella coils. We never had an issue with bugs at night, although we did use the netting around our bed religiously. We used the pool multiple times throughout the day. My husband went into the pool in our room more during our six day stay than he has been in our pool at home during the entire five years we have lived in our house. The water was clean, cool and refreshing, perfect for cooling off and relaxing after an outdoor activity. The Resort: What to say that hasn't already been said by other reviewers? It's phenomenal. The grounds, the staff, the views... The Major Domos: We had three major domos during our five night stay, Rolande was our main man, but we enjoyed service from CHRISTUS and Veto as well. They were all amazing, anticipating our needs and filling every request. We had breakfast brought to our room every morning so we could sit in our sanctuary and gaze over the Pitons while we ate. The major domo confirmed all of our activities for our stay, made dinner reservations for us at various restaurants, and brought us snacks at "tea time" every day. Our bed was turned down every night, with resort-made chocolates placed nearby along with information on the next day's activities. Our in-room refrigerator was stocked with our requested beverages as well as a neat Bento Box of goodies every day. No request was too big or too small, and everything was greeted with a smile. They also went out of their way to help us celebrate on my husband's birthday, with balloons on the door, a special turn down service, and a bath with flowers. Lovely. The Package: We enjoyed having a package that included all meals and drinks. Although there are a few beverage/meal items that would not be included in the package, these were easily identified and not a problem. I don't know if we saved money using the package deal with meals and excursions, but it was very nice to not have to worry about it every time we asked for more drinks for the room, or ordered room service, or went to the bar. Our package included a variety of excursions, and in our six days we did manage to use most of them. Activities/Excursions: We went on the volcano/Emerald Farm/botanical gardens tour and really enjoyed it. The best part was touring Emerald Farm, which is owned by the same owner as the resort and is used to grow much of the produce used by the resort. We also did the half day sail on the resort sailboat, with snorkeling. This was also a really good time, we enjoyed the crew as well as the two other couples on the sailboat with us. We are certified divers so we used both of the dives included in the package, and added more. We also enjoyed the massages. In addition to the activities included in the package, we attended the St. Lucian Rum Mixology Class at the beach bar (free) and the Chocolate and Wine Pairing and the Cocoa Tree to Chocolate Bar Tour (both for an extra fee). All were great. I also participated in my first-ever yoga class on the Celestial Terrace (very top of the hotel) one morning. While hiking up six flights of stairs first thing in the morning was not fun, the class was good and having a view of the Pitons throughout the class was very motivating. Generally: We had a fantastic stay and the resort is amazing. As some have mentioned, there is a LOT of walking and multiple flights of stairs at the resort, without apparent alternative options. Anyone who is mobility impaired will have an issue. Even our room had multiple steps to get into the room and within the room.

I have traveled and vacationed at some very nice resorts all around the Caribbean and world. My experience at Jade Mountain almost a year ago was remarkable. It doesn’t get more romantic than Jade Mountain. The accommodations, views from your room, the food at the three restaurants were amazing and best of all, the service – it exceeded expectations. I highly recommend this resort, and just today I did just that, which reminded me I had not written a review. The website and photos can’t describe how special this place is; you have to experience it in person. At Jade Mountain, you can be as active as you want or as laid back as you want; the Spa is beautiful with fantastic treatments. The resort has everything, from on-site hiking and bike trails to sunset cruises, dive shop and one of the best reefs for snorkeling in the Caribbean with thousands colorful fish, we nearly missed our flight because we could not get out of the water. It is a piece of paradise I did not know existed. We had really good time at the resort; a dream of a tropical paradise come true.

Ever since Jade Mountain was on the cover of Conde Nast I wanted to go there. Finally in April my wife and I visited the resort for four nights. We stayed in a Moon Sanctuary and it was fabulous! The Major Domos (butlers) are great, they make your stay so enjoyable and really nothing is a problem. Anything is immediately at your fingertips. The restaurants throughout the extended resort of Anse Chastanet are excellent and varied. Of course Jade Club which changes it's menu daily is sublime. There is always room on whichever one of the two beaches, the service at your own Cabana was also first class. I am only sorry I didn't write this review sooner, as there are so many positive things to say about this resort. Besure to hike the Titons it was a great experience!

Imagine that Captain Kirk needs a well deserved rest from defending the universe. The high command insists that he take some R & R to a small planet surrounded by water, sky, and lush vegetation. This is Jade Mountain! The architecture is stunning - modern yet organic and focused on harmony with nature while still being contemporary and artistic. We were in a Star Sanctuary (JA5) which was perfect. We had a chance to see a room one level and one category above us, and we both agreed that we loved our space better. It was spacious, yet intimate and the view of the Pitons was framed rather than panoramic which I prefer. Our infinity pool had multiple levels to soak or swim and we had a water bridge to get to our sun nook which we mostly used to star gaze at night. One caveat, however, it is 153 steps up to the celestial terrace so, if you are grossly out of shape, this may not be the best spot for you! The food, wine and cocktails were wonderful. There are multiple restaurants to choose from although we had most dinners at the Jade Club which was open air, cool, and breezy. The menu was inventive and well prepared. Don't miss going to the Anse Mamin grill and make sure to get Flora to make you her special mojito! She uses a 160 proof rum! Plus the limes are inexplicably different in St. Lucia. All of this makes for a fantastic drink. Our second mojito was made by a different bartender and it didn't hold a candle to Flora's! There is almost too much to do. We had the romance package which had many activities built in which didn't allow much time to just hang out in the room. We usually took breakfast in the room, served by our major domo. We had three assigned to us and they take shifts for 24 hour coverage. Roland was our main major domo as he checked us in and arranged all our reservations for the first three days. He has a warm and authentic personality so we felt very comfortable with him. All staff were really wonderful and remembered our names after the first day. We had stayed at Anse Chastenet 15 years ago before Jade Mountain was built. Many of the same employees are still working at the resort complex and they seemed genuinely thrilled that we returned after so many years. I read reviews somewhat obsessively prior to our vacation so i want to respond to little alarms that were raised by some people: - bugs were not a problem. I got a few bites but I tend to be a mosquito magnet - night frogs are LOUD but you get used to them after the first night - I was not too hot as the fans work very well. Give yourself 24 hours to acclimate to the heat. - our toilet was in a nook so it felt private - birds are cute but ravenous and clever. Just keep food away from them. Since dawn was early and the birds loved to sing, I was usually up at 5:30 am. This allowed me to wake up to a delicious cup of coffee and then make the trek to the celestial terrace for 7 am yoga. The morning breeze was gentle, often there was a shower (but we are under a tent). This was a totally restorative experience! Finally, I know this is a pricey vacation. I am a 3rd generation cheapscape. But, within 12 hours I was plotting when we could return. Don't think too hard, just go!

My husband and I stayed here 5 nights on our 5 year wedding anniversary celebration. We booked a Moon sanctuary and got lucky enough to be upgraded to a Sun. We got the meal plan and also the total romance package. Both are definitely worth the money, as once reached the resort there is no reason to leave it. Plus, our major domos took care of organizing all the excursions for us and we did not have to worry about anything. We were looking for a place to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature and Jade Mountain is especially designed just for that. The food is amazing, the location breathtaking and the service is top notch. We absolutely did not mind the stairs even though our sanctuary was on level one and the restaurant is on six. An elevator would not have reason to be there, it would just ruin the perfect harmony of the overall architecture. And yes, we got some mosquito bites, but who cares! Will definitely save to go back. It was just one of the most relaxing vacations ever! But bear in mind: if you cannot climb stairs or if you can't survive without a/c or cable this place is not for you.
